Our cousin will have been a resident in Maple Lodge for two years in May 2021. She suffers from dementia and mild depression. West Hall was chosen for its ethos, exceptional purpose-built facilities, wonderful grounds and the wide range of activities on offer, backed up by the ‘Outstanding’ CQC review. West Hall feels well run and in our experience, the care is very good and the staff are professional, cheerful, friendly and caring. Communication is good, staff are accessible and any question or quibble is dealt with quickly and effectively. During the pandemic, the team have been exceptional. We cannot praise them highly enough. When visiting has been banned or restricted, we felt comforted by the knowledge that our relative is being well cared for by the Maple Lodge Team. During the pandemic, it has been very helpful to have more regular updates from the West Hall Manager and more frequent newsletters.

Mum was a resident at West Hall (Oak Lodge) for 5 years, and we recently lost her at the age of 98. She was always extremely well looked after and we have been so impressed with the care and consideration given to her (and to us) towards the end of her life. We are very aware of how much the carers and staff have done, to make Mum feel happy and safe. It takes a very special person to do the job, that they all do, with such care and affection and in the past year, West Hall staff, in all areas, have risen to the challenges of Covid-19 and have gone over and above what would normally be expected of them. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found West Hall and to know that during these difficult times when we saw so little of Mum, she had all of you to take care of her. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend West Hall to anybody looking for exceptional care.

The team and facilities at West Hall surpassed all our high expectations from day one. Over two and half years, the care and support the Oak Lodge team provided to my godmother was exemplary - full of empathy, patience, humour and interest in her life stories. This extended to my family and I - always keeping us in touch and updated, especially during the last challenging twelve months. The team go the extra mile to accommodate residents' wishes, whether it is providing special food requests, printing out emails from overseas relatives or having residents' furniture and pictures in their rooms. The design and upkeep of the rooms, gardens and facilities are of a high standard and there are loads of activities on offer with a dedicated team who organise day trips and on-site activities. Strong support from the local GP surgery, physio and dental services are all geared towards keeping residents in the best of health. A brilliant team all round. Thank you all.

My Mum has been a resident in West Hall for the last 2 and a half years. At all times, the care she has received has been exemplary. All the team from management to the care team treat her with respect and also go out of their way to treat us as relatives as part of the whole family. They are always open to comments and questions, and it is always easy to arrange a meeting should we need too.
My Dad also found himself in need of respite care this past month following on from surgery for Bowel Cancer. I was absolutely thrilled with how my Dad was in himself following his recent reunion with Mum at West Hall Care Home following his two week isolation period. It really uplifted him to see her after those difficult few months. All the staff at West Hall were amazing in facilitating this, and we can't thank them enough. The care he received whilst on respite was second to none.

I will have absolutely no hesitation in recommending West Hall to anyone that should need to use them.

West Hall Care Home staff have been working extremely hard under the very difficult circumstances we are encountering this year. They have kept us fully informed of all developments and also done their best to arrange visits under the ever-changing guidelines. They send regular reports regarding the well-being of our loved ones as well as a weekly newsletter with photos of events they are organising for the residents, which is lovely, especially as we are not able to visit as often as we could. The circumstances are still changing and it is becoming even more difficult to visit. This is extremely concerning when someone you love is a resident. The staff do their very best to assure us of the wellbeing of our loved one.

Mum only stayed for 2 1/2 weeks for respite care. The service we received and the care Mum received was excellent. Despite only being at the home for a short period, the staff took time to get to know Mum, to understand her likes and dislikes and to address any points we raised. I couldn't ask for more and would definitely use again.

During my stay we have been in lockdown owing to the Coronavirus so most activities have been on hold. I have been able to use the grounds for walking and exercise which has been very pleasant, rather than just being in a room. Whilst the library is shut there are books available which we're made aware of. Friendly staff and management, always ready to help. Rooms kept well with a lovely outlook on to the grounds.

My mother was extremely well looked after towards the end of life care with exceptional care and concern shown by the staff.
I would have rated the room as excellent if it had aircon, and the floor was not concrete (under the carpet).
The food generally good but has had some inconsistency with various staff changes.

Some little oversights in personal care but overall the team are outstanding in care and commitment. Highly recommend.

My siblings and I are extremely happy with our mother’s respite care in West Hall. Communication, either face to face, email or phone is always treated professionally, quickly and politely. The standards over all areas are excellent and maintained. Whilst my mother would rather be in her own house, she has no complaints about West Hall. Clearly, if Mum’s happy so are we.

I was in Oak Lodge. All members of staff were excellent, friendly, helpful and concerned that I was happy and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble. They set the tone of the place and it was contagious because residents themselves were all friendly. The use of Christian names is an excellent idea. The food could not be faulted. it was very good and the kitchen staff were always obliging. It is a wonderful care home. I rate it 100%

Very satisfied. Most carers were good, but especially one certain carer who deserves a compliment. I found it a long time between supper and the next morning and I found it a bit lonely. Suggested a quiz about 19.00 or some entertainment as most go to bed early. Would consider returning to West Hall.

Paula Rifai
Paula RifaiJob Title:General ManagerJoined: 2025

I’m writing to introduce myself as the new General Manager of West Hall. I have had the privilege of working in the care sector for the past 35 years, and during this time, I have grown both professionally and personally. My journey started as a Carer, and through dedication and passion, I advanced to Senior Carer, Head of Care, Deputy Manager, and Acting Manager, before ultimately becoming a Registered Manager. For the past 26 years, I have been a Registered Manager with various care companies, where I have had the opportunity to achieve outstanding results, including two excellent outcomes and a "Good" rating with an Outstanding "Well Led" outcome in my previous care home.

Throughout my career, I’ve embraced every opportunity to enhance my skills and qualifications, ensuring that I meet the evolving standards and regulations required for this role. I joined Anchor in January 2023 as the Registered Care Home Manager for Moore Place, where I was thrilled to lead the team to achieve the top score of 10 on independent website carehome.co.uk. Our hard work paid off when Moore Place was ranked among the Top 20 Care Homes in the South East in 2024.

I am excited to take on the role of General Manager for West Hall. I am looking forward to working with the dedicated team here, getting to know the residents and their families, and leading West Hall to new heights. My vision is to work collaboratively with everyone, ensuring that we provide the highest standard of care and continue to thrive as a home.

Gary Dunn
Gary DunnJob Title:Deputy General ManagerJoined: 2025

It is my privilege to introduce myself as your new Deputy General Manager of West Hall. I have been working in the care sector for the past 10 years with my journey starting in my hometown of Swindon, where I worked in domiciliary care while maintaining the CQC Outstanding rating.

The wealth of experience and knowledge gained led me to continue with my passion to work within this sector. I moved to Surrey in 2019 and gained a position within Anchor as Team Leader at Moore Place. Throughout this time, I have seen many changes, working with a talented, and passionate team which we ensured Moore Place was recognised as a CQC “Good” rated care home in 2022 and Top 20 Care Home for the South East in 2024. For the past 12 months I have been in an Acting Deputy Manager role, successfully overseeing operational changes and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

This new chapter in my career at West Hall is an exciting opportunity, not only to work alongside such an outstanding team but also establishing a good rapport with residents and families alike.

I look forward to meeting you all and to continue the success of West Hall.

Sophie Waite
Sophie WaiteJob Title:Wellbeing ManagerJoined: 2025

I joined West Hall as the Wellbeing Manager in April 2025, and I’m thrilled to be part of such an incredible team. I graduated with a Drama degree in 2014 and began my career in care in February 2018. Since then, I’ve worked with a few different care providers, gaining valuable experience along the way. I truly believe I have the best job and have never looked back.

In addition to my experience, I commission the activities department for a new build care home, building close relationships with residents and their families, and ensuring the activity programme was designed to best support residents’ wellbeing and engagement.

During my time in care, I’ve been able to apply my creative skills to develop engaging and inclusive activity programmes. I’ve planned and organised a wide range of events and activities, including summer parties, Bonfire Night celebrations, archery sessions, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy sessions for residents living with dementia, and a unique ‘12 Weeks Around the World’ programme where residents virtually explore different countries through their culture, food, music, and traditions.

I’m passionate about delivering one-to-one activities and engagement to ensure we meet every resident’s needs, especially creating programmes tailored for those living with dementia. The most rewarding part of my role is building personal connections with residents and their families, which allows me to tailor activities that reflect the interests and preferences of everyone living in the home.

Mark Wren
Mark WrenJob Title:Services ManagerJoined: 2017

I am the Services Manager at Anchor West Hall and have been in this role since the beginning of January 2024, overseeing several departments which include catering, housekeeping, maintenance and activities. Supporting my colleagues and interacting with the residents here are the highlights of my day, and I couldn’t ask for a more picturesque location to work in; the manor house and grounds of West Hall are truly exquisite.

Overseeing the Hospitality and services of the home gives me the opportunity to work collaboratively with each head of department, ensuring that West Hall does not just meet the needs of the residents, but exceeds them every day by providing the level of care and service that our CQC rating of ‘Outstanding’ truly deserves.
