Anchor’s West Hall is a unique and meticulously designed flagship care home. It was rated as Outstanding by the CQC for the second time in June 2019. Three of the five areas inspected of Caring, Responsive and Well-Led were rated Outstanding in this report.

The team are proud to be welcoming new residents to West Hall, on both a permanent basis and for respite care. West Hall provides outstanding residential care and for older people living with dementia. Priding itself on its dementia care, staff receive on-going training to ensure their approach reflects best practice.

West Hall comprises of an 18th century listed Manor House, with three purpose-built, contemporary lodge residences, all set in peaceful and impressive grounds. The Manor House has been extensively refurbished and provides a bistro, a private dining suite, activity areas and a library. West Hall is set in extensive grounds within the Surrey Green Belt for the enjoyment of residents and loved ones.

The three lodge residences have been specifically designed with the latest technology to provide lovely accommodation, including spa baths and spacious bedrooms. They have the benefit of environmentally friendly energy, including solar power and the use of organic material for insulation.

At West Hall, the team promote friendship and companionship. Encouraging a high quality of life is at the heart of the culture and ethos at West Hall. The highly trained and dedicated team approaches every day with professionalism and compassion, delivering a service that’s unique to each individual’s needs. Residents have detailed care plans which are unique to each individual and agreed upon in conjunction with loved ones to ensure health and care needs are constantly met.

Mum was a resident at West Hall (Oak Lodge) for 5 years, and we recently lost her at the age of 98. She was always extremely well looked after and we have been so impressed with the care and consideration given to her (and to us) towards the end of her life. We are very aware of how much the carers
and staff have done, to make Mum feel happy and safe. It takes a very special person to do the job, that they all do, with such care and affection and in the past year, West Hall staff, in all areas, have risen to the challenges of Covid-19 and have gone over and above what would normally be expected of them. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found West Hall and to know that during these difficult times when we saw so little of Mum, she had all of you to take care of her. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend West Hall to anybody looking for exceptional care.

The team and facilities at West Hall surpassed all our high expectations from day one. Over two and half years, the care and support the Oak Lodge team provided to my godmother was exemplary - full of empathy, patience, humour and interest in her life stories. This extended to my family and I - always
keeping us in touch and updated, especially during the last challenging twelve months. The team go the extra mile to accommodate residents' wishes, whether it is providing special food requests, printing out emails from overseas relatives or having residents' furniture and pictures in their rooms. The design and upkeep of the rooms, gardens and facilities are of a high standard and there are loads of activities on offer with a dedicated team who organise day trips and on-site activities. Strong support from the local GP surgery, physio and dental services are all geared towards keeping residents in the best of health. A brilliant team all round. Thank you all.

My Mum has been a resident in West Hall for the last 2 and a half years. At all times, the care she has received has been exemplary. All the team from management to the care team treat her with respect and also go out of their way to treat us as relatives as part of the whole family. They are always
open to comments and questions, and it is always easy to arrange a meeting should we need too.
My Dad also found himself in need of respite care this past month following on from surgery for Bowel Cancer. I was absolutely thrilled with how my Dad was in himself following his recent reunion with Mum at West Hall Care Home following his two week isolation period. It really uplifted him to see her after those difficult few months. All the staff at West Hall were amazing in facilitating this, and we can't thank them enough. The care he received whilst on respite was second to none.
I will have absolutely no hesitation in recommending West Hall to anyone that should need to use them.

West Hall Care Home staff have been working extremely hard under the very difficult circumstances we are encountering this year. They have kept us fully informed of all developments and also done their best to arrange visits under the ever-changing guidelines. They send regular reports regarding the
well-being of our loved ones as well as a weekly newsletter with photos of events they are organising for the residents, which is lovely, especially as we are not able to visit as often as we could. The circumstances are still changing and it is becoming even more difficult to visit. This is extremely concerning when someone you love is a resident. The staff do their very best to assure us of the wellbeing of our loved one.

Mum only stayed for 2 1/2 weeks for respite care. The service we received and the care Mum received was excellent. Despite only being at the home for a short period, the staff took time to get to know Mum, to understand her likes and dislikes and to address any points we raised. I couldn't ask for more
and would definitely use again.

During my stay we have been in lockdown owing to the Coronavirus so most activities have been on hold. I have been able to use the grounds for walking and exercise which has been very pleasant, rather than just being in a room. Whilst the library is shut there are books available which we're made aware
of. Friendly staff and management, always ready to help. Rooms kept well with a lovely outlook on to the grounds.

My mother was extremely well looked after towards the end of life care with exceptional care and concern shown by the staff.
I would have rated the room as excellent if it had aircon, and the floor was not concrete (under the carpet).
The food generally good but has had some inconsistency with various
staff changes.
Some little oversights in personal care but overall the team are outstanding in care and commitment. Highly recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to review West Hall and we are pleased that you rate our overall standard as excellent. We have had some new staff in the kitchen, who have now settled in well. Meals are monitored regularly and we also have a comments book which staff and residents are encouraged to use and this is regularly reviewed by the manager. Menus are planned with guidance and consultations from the residents, to ensure a variety of meals that will ensure that their likes and tastes are catered for. We do normally use free-standing air conditioning units when required, however, due to current infection control guidance, we are not able to use these at the present time.

My siblings and I are extremely happy with our mother’s respite care in West Hall. Communication, either face to face, email or phone is always treated professionally, quickly and politely. The standards over all areas are excellent and maintained. Whilst my mother would rather be in her own house,
she has no complaints about West Hall. Clearly, if Mum’s happy so are we.

I was in Oak Lodge. All members of staff were excellent, friendly, helpful and concerned that I was happy and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble. They set the tone of the place and it was contagious because residents themselves were all friendly. The use of Christian names is an excellent idea.
The food could not be faulted. it was very good and the kitchen staff were always obliging. It is a wonderful care home. I rate it 100%

I have been a resident for two weeks respite care following a month in hospital. I immediately was made welcome by all the staff I encountered, and always helped when I needed help, even at night, by the capable and friendly staff. This has been the best holiday I have ever had. Very satisfied. Most carers were good, but especially one certain carer who deserves a compliment. I found it a long time between supper and the next morning and I found it a bit lonely. Suggested a quiz about 19.00 or some entertainment as most go to bed early. Would consider returning to West Hall.

Paula Rifai

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2025

I’m writing to introduce myself as the new General Manager of West Hall. I have had the privilege of working in the care sector for the past 35 years, and during this time, I have grown both professionally and personally. My journey started as a Carer, and through dedication and passion, I advanced to Senior Carer, Head of Care, Deputy Manager, and Acting Manager, before ultimately becoming a Registered Manager. For the past 26 years, I have been a Registered Manager with various care companies, where I have had the opportunity to achieve outstanding results, including two excellent outcomes and a "Good" rating with an Outstanding "Well Led" outcome in my previous care home.


Throughout my career, I’ve embraced every opportunity to enhance my skills and qualifications, ensuring that I meet the evolving standards and regulations required for this role. I joined Anchor in January 2023 as the Registered Care Home Manager for Moore Place, where I was thrilled to lead the team to achieve the top score of 10 on independent website carehome.co.uk. Our hard work paid off when Moore Place was ranked among the Top 20 Care Homes in the South East in 2024.


I am excited to take on the role of General Manager for West Hall. I am looking forward to working with the dedicated team here, getting to know the residents and their families, and leading West Hall to new heights. My vision is to work collaboratively with everyone, ensuring that we provide the highest standard of care and continue to thrive as a home.

Job Title: Deputy General Manager Joined: 2025

It is my privilege to introduce myself as your new Deputy General Manager of West Hall. I have been working in the care sector for the past 10 years with my journey starting in my hometown of Swindon, where I worked in domiciliary care while maintaining the CQC Outstanding rating.


The wealth of experience and knowledge gained led me to continue with my passion to work within this sector. I moved to Surrey in 2019 and gained a position within Anchor as Team Leader at Moore Place. Throughout this time, I have seen many changes, working with a talented, and passionate team which we ensured Moore Place was recognised as a CQC “Good” rated care home in 2022 and Top 20 Care Home for the South East in 2024. For the past 12 months I have been in an Acting Deputy Manager role, successfully overseeing operational changes and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.


This new chapter in my career at West Hall is an exciting opportunity, not only to work alongside such an outstanding team but also establishing a good rapport with residents and families alike.

Job Title: Wellbeing Manager Joined: 2025

I joined West Hall as the Wellbeing Manager in April 2025, and I’m thrilled to be part of such an incredible team. I graduated with a Drama degree in 2014 and began my career in care in February 2018. Since then, I’ve worked with a few different care providers, gaining valuable experience along the way. I truly believe I have the best job and have never looked back.


In addition to my experience, I commission the activities department for a new build care home, building close relationships with residents and their families, and ensuring the activity programme was designed to best support residents’ wellbeing and engagement.


During my time in care, I’ve been able to apply my creative skills to develop engaging and inclusive activity programmes. I’ve planned and organised a wide range of events and activities, including summer parties, Bonfire Night celebrations, archery sessions, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy sessions for residents living with dementia, and a unique ‘12 Weeks Around the World’ programme where residents virtually explore different countries through their culture, food, music, and traditions.


I’m passionate about delivering one-to-one activities and engagement to ensure we meet every resident’s needs, especially creating programmes tailored for those living with dementia. The most rewarding part of my role is building personal connections with residents and their families, which allows me to tailor activities that reflect the interests and preferences of everyone living in the home.

I started my employment with West hall in January this year 2025, I maintain the whole site including 4 buildings with approximately 40 bedrooms in each lodge 4 kitchens and 4 plantrooms, I take my job very seriously and have the residents and families best interests at heart, Myself and my team of 3 maintenance engineers really enjoy our day to day work and try to keep the whole site looking its best for our residents and visitors to enjoy and appreciate.


I have many years of experience as a maintenance manager, and I really do enjoy hearing the feed back from our residents and families about how nice West Hall is and I thrive off it wanting to do better and keeping west hall up to date and making west hall the best care home in our area.

I am the Services Manager at Anchor West Hall and have been in this role since the beginning of January 2024, overseeing several departments which include catering, housekeeping, maintenance and activities. Supporting my colleagues and interacting with the residents here are the highlights of my day, and I couldn’t ask for a more picturesque location to work in; the manor house and grounds of West Hall are truly exquisite.


Overseeing the Hospitality and services of the home gives me the opportunity to work collaboratively with each head of department, ensuring that West Hall does not just meet the needs of the residents, but exceeds them every day by providing the level of care and service that our CQC rating of ‘Outstanding’ truly deserves.

With a background in Biomedical Science and formal leadership training, I bring a thoughtful and analytical approach to management. I pride myself on being reliable, ambitious, and deeply motivated by the impact we can have on people's lives, making every day matter for those we care for.
