Excellent service when we needed urgent respite for my mum. She is now a permanent resident being looked after by the dementia team and we are extremely pleased. The staff are wonderful and always make us feel welcome, as a family, and the care my mum receives is outstanding. Mum is very happy and loves
the interaction from the staff and other residents.

My husband came to Knebworth care home for respite in March. He became a permanent resident following respite.
The staff/carers go over and beyond what you would expect. They are kind and caring and knowledgeable in all aspects of dementia on the Willow floor.
He is happy there and I feel very welcome
when I visit him.
I highly recommend the Willow floor for dementia care.

Mum has been in Knebworth coming up for 3 years in the Dementia ward.
I was dreading her going into a home but the transition has been wonderful.
The home is clean and the decor is bright and cheery.
The ladies and gents that work there couldn’t be better, they are always so happy and smiley even
when the job gets hard, and always think about getting Mum ready and making sure her clothes match and do her hair and makeup.
The activities team are lovely and has some great things going on.
Reply from Hannah Atherley, Reviews Team at KnebworthHi Julie, thank you for your lovely words about the team on our dementia suite and lifestyle. They are so passionate about caring for people living with dementia, thank you for sharing your experience.

I would like to thank all the staff, management and nursing staff for caring for my father in the final two weeks of his life.
My dad has complex needs after breaking his hip and was very stressed and unhappy after bing in 3 different hospitals.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and Dad was
treated with the utmost respect. The support, we as a family, had was professional and very helpful during this difficult time.

My husband came in for respite in March last year. He loved it so much, he wanted to stay. He is treated with dignity which is very important to us both. He knows I can no longer cope with him at home. All staff are excellent, he is no longer in the pain he was suffering when taken in. Agency staff
need checking but that is the same everywhere. Management were very supportive and made a very difficult time so much easier.

In the past few weeks, my mother has had her hair set, listened to gong music, attended a dementia cafe and been to a garden centre - all arranged by Knebworth care home. The staff work hard, especially if they are able to work in conjunction with the resident's family. Vulnerable residents with complex
care needs require the management, nurses, care staff, chef, laundry, activities, reception and family to work together! The Knebworth team are excellent and I recommend them.

My mother came to Knebworth care home on respite for 2 weeks whilst we were on holiday. The care home were extremely professional from my first enquiry and organising my mother's admittance. Mum settled in quickly and seems to have been happy during her stay. I would be very happy for Mum to spend respite
at the home again or to become a permanent resident should she want to.
I have up dates from a friend who visited Mum during her stay who confirmed that Mum was happy and content during her stay.

Our mum had a 3-week respite stay here after her health and mobility had been decreasing consistently alone at home, and it brought out her social smiley old self again! She made a few friends quickly and really got on well with some of the staff too. There always seemed to be staff about to help or
talk to if needs be, and they were usually happy to do so. Realistically she needs more day-to-day help like this going forward, and so if she agrees we would definitely consider Knebworth care home at the top of the list for permanent residence.

During my cousin's stay here at Knebworth the staff have always been courteous, caring and engaging during my visits and always helpful. More importantly, my cousin seemed contented here in so many ways and the care and atmosphere seemed to dispel, at least on the surface, the worries and doubts of
her leaving her own home.

When our mother/nan was discharged from hospital she was completely bedridden. She was welcomed into the home by all the team. They restored her dignity by washing and dressing her everyday. They were very kind to her explaining about being hosted into a reclining chair which enabled her to sit and
enjoy activities and entertainment. We have been overwhelmed by the exceptional care and support by everyone. The team made us feel welcome and showed empathy and compassion.
We will never be able to thank you all enough.

My husband appears to have settled well and is comfortable. The staff are kind and helpful and have been good at phoning me at home if there seems to be any problems.
He always looks clean and well kept. He has become slightly more alert but is still confused at times. It would be nice if he could
sit in the lounge a little more often if at all possible. I am happy with the care he is receiving up until now.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.754)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.754) out of 10 for Knebworth is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.754 for Knebworth is calculated as follows: ( (270 Excellents x 5) + (60 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 342 Ratings = 4.754
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Knebworth is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
