I cannot thank the team enough for the care and support they provide to my dad. From the moment you walk through the door, the staff are always welcoming, friendly, and approachable, creating a warm and comforting atmosphere for both residents and their families.
The carers genuinely care about the people they look after, and it really shows in everything they do. They are incredibly kind, patient, and attentive, always treating my dad with dignity, respect, and compassion. Knowing that he is in such caring hands gives our family great peace of mind.

The dedication and professionalism of the entire team are outstanding, and I would highly recommend this care home to anyone looking for a safe, supportive, and caring environment for a loved one.

My mother has been having respite care for the second time this year,, firstly recovering from pneumonia and now recovering from a fractured pelvis, both times she has arrived very frail and wobbly from hospital, but within a short time with the fantastic care and excellent food she has recovered remarkably well ,I have to say my sister and I did look at other care homes, especially in the village where our mother lives but nothing came close to the feeling we got after visiting hurstwood view,we are so pleased with our choice

From my mother's admission to Hurstwood View during the second lockdown of 2020 until her passing just before last Christmas, her care at the home could not have been in better hands. My mother's decline with dementia was treated by staff professionally, with love and respect. The home truly felt like a home and was always a pleasure to visit. All the staff were fantastic throughout and stepped up another level when my mother needed palliative care. A heartfelt thank you.

We arrived at Hurstwood View very broken. My mum had lived at another Barchester Home for four years and had the most amazing care and we had all become part of their family. We had presumed and hoped that mum would peacefully pass away there but very suddenly she became very ill, was transferred to hospital and within 36 hours was put on End of Life Care. As a residential home, the other home could not support her needs and we had to consider her either dying in hospital ( which she did not want) or moving her elsewhere. One phone call to Kirsty and she liaised with Skye at the previous home. It was seamless, we arrived as a family and it felt as if someone wrapped their arms around us and said 'it is ok, we have got you'. Every member of staff showed us so much kindness and made mum so comfortable. There are no words to praise the whole team. THANKYOU is not enough but it is all I have x

I cannot praise or thank Kirsty and her team enough for the outstanding care my husband received during his stay at Hurstwood View. My husband was transferred from a hospice after being diagnosed with a brain tumour and was deteriorating rapidly - it was an incredibly frightening and emotional time for our whole family.
From the very first moment we stepped into Hurstwood View, we were met with kindness, warmth, and compassion. The team cared not only for my husband, but also for us as a family. The home itself is beautifully kept, warm, and inviting, but it is the staff who truly make it something exceptional.

We will always be deeply grateful for the care, support, and compassion shown to us during such a difficult time. Hurstwood View is a very special place, and we feel so fortunate that our loved one, was looked after by such an amazing team.

I cannot thank the team at Hurstwood View enough, my Mum came to the home for respite care after suffering a sudden stroke, when she first came she was feeling vulnerable and scared but within a few days of the support and care from Kirsty and her team I saw mum's confidence and strength start to return, everyone's made to feel welcome whether a resident or visitor, the staff are always around to help with anything, Thank you again to the team.

What can I say this home is just great. All the staff are so friendly & helped my Mum adjust to her restbite for 2 weeks. This was Mum's second restbite here & she has obviously made lots of friends. On her first visit she was a bit anxious but this time she was very happy & relaxed. Which means when we need restbite care it's exactly that we don't have to worry about Mum at all we know she's getting the best care possible.

All the staff were kind, attentive and professional, from the manager, nurses and care staff through to the finance/admin team. The home has a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere and lovely surroundings. Mum's room was spacious, spotless and well equipped. Mum moved to Hurstwood View following a terminal diagnosis and the nursing staff were incredible in their dedication to making her final weeks comfortable and dignified, and as a family we felt fully supported. I would recommend Hurstwood View Care Home wholeheartedly.

A purpose built, delightful, friendly, caring home with an uplifting atmosphere and a focus on enriching activities alongside the normal daily needs of the residents. The carers are genuinely lovely, very capable & attentive. Mum especially warmed to her carers. Mum's initial 2 week respite turned into 6 weeks. It was unfortunate that she couldn't become a permanent resident, since we could not prove the 2 years funding required. Nevertheless, the lady in the office, did everything possible to advise and support us throughout the process & Mum's respite stay.

Would highly recommend to any family considering a care home for their loved one.

Hurstwood View is described by dad, 'like a 5 star hotel!'. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, they are all so attentive and genuinely caring, patient and happy at all times. They also give respect to those residents who might just be happy to be in their own company and choose not to always join in the huge range of daily activities available. Mum was also there last year, if only for a few weeks, but at a time when her health was at it's most challenging. The care she received was outstanding, and the care they gave us as a family equally so. 5 stars from us all and many many thanks to everyone!

Kirsty Johnson
Kirsty JohnsonJob Title:General ManagerJoined: 2012

I began my career in the care industry in 1997, working in a small private care home for 17 years, which I enjoyed every day. I provided individualised care, support, social interaction, comfort & compassion to residents.

In 2003, I decided to study Nursing at Brighton University, as it had been my ambition since an early age. I continued to work at the care home during evenings & weekends, throughout my training and received my nursing qualification in 2006. Becoming a nurse gave me such fulfilment, along with a great responsibility, which made me extremely proud of what I do.

I joined Hurstwood View in 2012, and that is where my journey at Barchester began.

I love to spend time with my family & friends, and I also enjoy travelling. I played football for 15 years in a women’s team, but I’ve hung the boots up now!

Esther Onwuka
Esther OnwukaJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2025

My name is Esther Onwuka, and I joined Hurstwood View in April 2025 as Deputy Manager.

From a young age, I have always had a strong passion for caring for others, which inspired me to pursue a degree in Nursing in India. Over the course of my 4-year training, I became deeply committed to the belief that providing care and support to people is one of the most fulfilling and meaningful roles in life.

Since qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 2016, I have gained valuable experience working in Nigeria before relocating to England during the pandemic. I spent 5 rewarding years at a nursing home in Uckfield, where I progressed from Nurse to Deputy Manager. That experience helped shape my approach to leadership and deepened my commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

I am always striving to grow both personally and professionally. This drive has recently led me to complete a Master’s degree in Public Health, and I plan to pursue a PhD in the near future. My ultimate goal is to make a positive, lasting impact within my workplace, my community, and the wider world.

At Hurstwood View, my role is to support our residents, their families, and our dedicated team to ensure we consistently deliver the highest standards of care. I aim to help create an environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and at home.

If you visit us, you will likely see me walking around with a big smile, and I look forward to welcoming you in person.
