This care home is proud to be able to display an Outstanding CQC rating (November 2023).

The Links is in the lovely village setting of Broadstone, close to local amenities and within easy reach of Dorset’s beautiful beaches and countryside. The Links offers residential, nursing, respite, post-operative, palliative and dementia care.

Pre-bookable short stays are also offered for people to rest, relax and recover, maybe post op or whilst family or a carer are on holiday. The Links also offers day care - please call for more details.

At The Links, staff take great care to focus on the person. It’s important for residents to feel at home, so it creates a friendly environment with an individually appropriate balance of care and independence. Staff are well trained and there is 24/7 nursing care on site.

The home also has an onsite café that is peaceful and offers a great place to relax with friends and family. This home also benefits from an onsite salon, with a full-time hairdresser on site offering a brilliant service to all the residents.

Enjoying food is an important part of life. The chefs create well-crafted menus made with the freshest ingredients and try to cater for all ethnicity groups. Soon after a resident arrives at The Links, staff discuss their personal preferences and dietary needs with them.

There’s a real sense of community at the home. The staff work to discover what residents enjoy doing and the home's social calendar is organised around those interests. My aunt receives excellent care and The Links communicates with me when there are any changes to her care plan. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Links care home to a potential resident.

My elderly mother with advanced Alzheimer's and my father, with terminal cancer, were admitted into The Links care home in January 2022. The management, reception, nursing staff, cleaners, chefs and handyman have provided a fantastic, caring team for my mother. The effort of these good-hearted souls
have given my parents a wonderful home. You keep my mum safe and loved in my absence. They also provide weekly, fun activities which Mum loves. Thank you.
Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at The Links Care HomeThank you for taking the time to write us a review. We are glad that we were able to provide a home for your parents in difficult circumstances. Thank you for choosing The Links, we certainly hope to continue providing your Mother with the best care possible.

From what I have heard from phone calls from the home, my husband has been well looked after. The only problem is I am not always kept informed on my husband's health and well-being but otherwise, very good.

My mother arrived as a resident in November of this year and had had a tough time getting used to being a resident on the ground floor since then. Everyone I have met has been fantastic but I must say one team member, in particular, went above and beyond, ensuring Mum was made welcome, using her break
to make sure the GP was aware of some issues Mum had, as well as keeping us updated and putting my mind at rest. Thank you for making the hard decision to have Mum leave her home a little easier.
Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at The Links Care HomeThank you for your review. We are glad to hear that our staff have done everything to try and help your Mum settle at The Links. We would love to pass your compliment on to the staff member mentioned, please give our team a call on 0113 4950469 and we can forward them your thanks.

I think the care home is lovely. The staff are always so welcoming, friendly and helpful. They seem to really care about the residents and my Grandpa seems very happy there. The home itself is in good condition and the rooms are lovely and always kept clean. Overall, we’ve had a great experience.

My mother came to the Links after 64 years of living in the same house, followed by several hospital admissions in 2020, at the start of the pandemic. I was unable to visit, due to Covid restrictions for some months, but can now visit regularly. It has been difficult for Mum, family and for the hardworking
care management and staff. Everyone at the Links has done their best to care for Mum in exceptionally difficult circumstances. For instance, my mum has never seen her care staff without masks, so you lose a lot of interactions that way. Professional and friendly staff and management. She is generally settled into life there now, although her dementia can make every day a different experience.
Reply from Amanda Barnes, Customer Service Adviser at The Links Care HomeWe appreciate you taking the time to leave us your comments, It is nice to hear words like ''Professional'' and ''Friendly'' to describe our care and staff. Both my parents were residents at The Links Care Home for almost 5 years. During that time The Links staff treated them with compassion and understanding and helped them as their illnesses progressed. The food was always freshly made, the activities fun and appropriate and the home very clean. Latterly,
the pandemic presented challenges for staff, residents and relatives and proved a difficult time. However, the home adapted and the use of Skype and Covid-19 secure meeting rooms helped keep residents and their relatives connected.

The Links Care Home provides a professional, caring, supportive and friendly home for all its residents. The past year has been extremely difficult for all the staff, families and not least, the residents, who for some have found the whole situation extremely difficult to understand.
This has been
met with care, reassurance and professionalism to try and enable as much contact with our loved ones whilst keeping them as safe as possible, not an easy thing at all.
From a long distance away, I have managed to see Mum through the window from outside, and last November, from within. I am now looking forward to a visit within Mums room as soon as restrictions have been eased and I am able to travel from Scotland. The Zoom calls are a tremendous boost for myself, and I think for Mum too at the time.
Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at The Links Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave this review. Since my ma went into The Links, the care and understanding she has received have been exceptional. Her physical health has improved, and she is eating really well (she wasn't eating at all before she went in). The level of care the staff provide is second to none, and also, they always keep me in contact
with how Ma is doing. They have even managed to persuade Ma out of bed and into the lounge - only the second time she has been out of bed in well over a year. Ma is so happy and engaged - it truly is a delight to see. I love the activities that are organised, like the poetry compilation for National Poetry Day. My grateful thanks to all the staff at The Links - I can't recommend them highly enough.

I came because I was incapable of looking after myself!
The sympathy, love, empathy and care has built up my confidence to return to my family and resume my place in society.
My practice when completing forms like this has been very rarely feel able to tick any 'excellent' because no one is perfect.
This is my first visit, and also I came here with precaution about what I would encounter. I shall leave with the knowledge that if I need to return, I shall be looked after as though I was at home.

Visits to see my wife only once every two weeks, I don't think this is good because it was 2 or 3 weeks ago it was once every week. Sometimes it takes a long time to phone, one night, or I should say evening, it took me 5 goes. Quite a lot of people I've met have said the same.

My grandma has been in The Links Care Home for 3 1/2 years. We have always found the staff professional, yet caring. My grandma has always looked nice when we've seen her, just as my grandma would have wanted to be.
The home has offered me and my family security knowing that whilst we are unable to
look after Grandma at home she's in the next best place.

I chose this home for my mum because I could no longer care for her. Now 97 mum has challenging behaviour and has been totally blind for nearly 40 years. The family nature, understanding and ability displayed to care for my mum cannot be faulted. We are kept informed at all times of all relevant things
when not visiting. owing to the professional and foresight in closing early so far there is no Covid-19 there. Forever grateful.

Mum has been a resident at The Links for over seven years and she is very happy there. She is well looked after and all her needs are met on a day to day basis. The home is very friendly and has the needs of the residents at the heart of all they do.
The staff and management also offer good support
and advice to relatives at difficult times which I experienced last year.
All the staff in all areas of the home are just wonderful, caring people and I highly recommend this home.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.697)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.697) out of 10 for The Links Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.697 for The Links Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (270 Excellents x 5) + (53 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 343 Ratings = 4.697
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Links Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
