I'm sorry my mum had to go into a care home, but there was a time we, as a family, could no longer cope. Mum lived in Mayfields for nearly nine years and the care she received was exemplary and we never felt worried or uncomfortable knowing she was in your hands. Thank you to all the staff who looked
after Mum.

Mum spent her last year in Mayfields with dementia and peacefully passed away this month. Covid has caused much suffering for residents and their families, but the staff show a huge understanding of everyone's emotional needs and are giving much of themselves to help the residents and families through
these challenging times. Activities and celebratory days are planned with creativity and thought, and the cook prepares nutritious meals and treats to suit everyone for every occasion. Housekeeping and laundry maintain a high standard. Covid has been kept at bay due to high standards, adhering to the covid rules and hard work. The staff actively promote a positive attitude, kindness and cheerfulness to everyone either resident or visitor. We must remember the staff also have families and share the same lockdown and covid hardships. Extra special thanks to two particular carers for the love and care shown to Mum during her time with you. Mayfields met all needs and went way beyond our expectation.

This feedback relates to the hours up to and beyond Mum's passing. Even in these difficult times of COVID-19, it was really appreciated that all the immediate family were allowed both time and space with Mum during her final hours. Although paramedics were in attendance, it was evident that care home
staff took into consideration Mum's specific needs when deciding the next steps to her care. We've been so lucky in finding The Mayfields; Mum seemed very happy there and built a lovely relationship with staff. Thank you to all concerned - we will be forever grateful.

My granny has been a resident since just before the first lockdown of 2020. Her care and the effort from the team to keep the residents safe has been outstanding. It has been very difficult being unable to visit, but we receive regular updates and can see that she is involved with lots of activities
and socialisation. I would recommend them to anyone with confidence.

The whole experience of The Mayfields is exemplary, from the management and reception staff, and the wonderful care assistants. Their knowledge of their residents is wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble. A caring place for their residents to live.

Over 3 years I regularly visited my friend and on every occasion, I was warmly welcomed by The Mayfields staff.
My friend was always well cared for and she had a very happy few years at The Mayfields.
I visit other residential homes and none compare to The Mayfields.

My mother has spent two periods of respite in the Mayfields. She was on the dementia floor. Her room was spacious, as is all the communal areas. The staff seemed very caring for my mother and there were plenty of activities going on to keep her stimulated. The manager is thoughtful and very accommodating.
All the staff I came into contact with were helpful and attentive. I came away feeling confident my mother was receiving excellent care.

My cousin is resident in Mayfields after 10 weeks in hospital following a stroke/dementia/Parkinsons. The family agreed she could not be cared for at home. Mayfields is perfect for all her needs and she has settled well. Her care is excellent and she enjoys the activities and entertainment provided.
She has lots of visitors, friends and family and enjoys the food.

Mum misses family get-togethers especially, but the staff at Mayfields enabled us to give her a large family party for her 95th birthday. We did the catering so she had all her favourites and the staff provided cups of tea, crockery etc. We had a lovely time and so did mum.

The six-monthly review went into some detail regarding the health and wellbeing of the resident. I was shown the frequent notes recorded showing a definitive pattern of good care. All in all, it was a very worthwhile review held in a private and quiet location.
The carers at The Mayfields are a happy
group working together as a team.

Mum has been very happy at The Mayfields since her arrival in July. She is very well looked after and kept occupied with the activities on offer and day trips out.
The carers treat her with the utmost respect and have a lovely relationship with her. Long may it continue.

I was extremely lucky to find Mayfield Care Home to put my wife in as she has brain cancer and being not too far away is looked after by very caring staff who treat me with the same respect.
The home is very clean and well managed with good food.
Also, any requests are treated the same.

All the staff in the Bluebell Unit do their utmost to support residents in a calm and respectful manner. Residents are given choices where appropriate for example if they want to stay in bed until later in the day. This is a very caring place.

When I first began to visit the care home in 2013, it was very good. Since then, it has sadly deteriorated, particularly so on the Bluebell (dementia) unit, which has become the poor relation.
It is understaffed and the chairs are dirty.
The management emphasis dignity, but 2 male carers looking after
27 residents who are 75% female cannot be dignified. The staff do their best under very difficult conditions.

Welcoming staff - always a greeting and a smile.

Laundry - can be left without socks/pants. Seems to collect whether dirty or not. Stuff gets lost.

All in all satisfactory - clean and bright.

This is an impression only - my wife has dementia and appears content for the most part.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.957)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.957) out of 10 for The Mayfields Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.982 for The Mayfields Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (223 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 227 Ratings = 4.982
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Mayfields Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
