Proud to win the Care Home of the Year Award in the National Care Awards 2024, the team at Bartley Green Lodge are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents.

They support them to have an active role to play in how their home is run. There are a team of resident ambassadors, who do everything from supporting the home manager to interviewing potential staff, to providing feedback at residents’ meetings.

The home is thriving, with so many activities to enjoy, from live music, animal visits and pampering in the salon and nail bar, where a hairdresser visits weekly, to trips to local garden centres and community coffee mornings.

The team embrace the local community into life at Bartley Green, taking the residents to places like the nearby social club and out for pub lunches. And local school children are always greeted by beaming smiles when they visit.

The residents and team were so proud to win a £10,000 garden makeover in an internal competition run by the home’s provider Sanctuary Care, creating their own designs for a dream garden, with wooden pergolas, raised planters and a polytunnel.

As such the gardens have been a hub of activity this summer, with the residents growing everything from lettuce and carrots, tomatoes and cucumbers. They were proud to harvest their produce for the chef to use in the kitchen.

Delicious home-cooked food is served in the dining rooms, with freshly-baked cakes for afternoon tea. And the residents and their loved ones have taster sessions, to give their feedback on the seasonal menus.

Bartley Green also has welcoming lounge areas and a vintage café, where residents can socialise and spend time with loved ones, who are welcome at any time.

Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to understand the level of care and support needed. Our 2025 weekly care fees for residential care start from £1167 but may be in the region of 30% more*. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms through to our premium bedroom options.

My mother has been in this home since July 2015 whether she was looked after. Just before Christmas my mother was admitted into hospital by her care home (Bartley Green Lodge Residential Care Home). We are not entirely sure why she was admitted as the care home said that they thought she should be
on a drip as she was dehydrated, my mother has dementia and doesn't drink and eat as much as she should do. When we asked the hospital why she was admitted they said that the dehydration was never mentioned to them and in fact my mother had gone off her legs. The hospital have now contacted the home to tell them that she is ok to return to the home but the home have refused to have her back even though the hospital think she is fit to return. The home have said that because she refuses to feed herself and she is not mobile that they won't have her back. We put my mum in this home because they specialise in dementia care so surely they should know that this is how the illness progresses. Also the hospital use a hoist to move my mother in and out of bed and we know that the home also use a hoist to move people around so I don't see how they can refuse to have her back when they provide this sort of care for others. We feel sorry for the hospital as we feel that my mother is bed blocking, as she isn't physically ill, but they won't have her back.

Something else we have noticed over the last few months is the turnover of staff at the home, and there seems to be more agency staff there than ever before. I feel that my mother has been shunted off to hospital just before Christmas so there was one less person for them to deal with. Now we have to find another place where my mother can be looked after. This poor treatment of my mother has now been reported to the Care Quality Commission as I feel that the home are taking the view that she has become a burden to them.

My team and I feel really disappointed to read this review as our residents’ happiness and welfare is always our top priority and we do everything we can to ensure they are able to remain with us for as long as possible.
However unfortunately, there are times when a resident goes into hospital as a result of being poorly and their needs are subsequently assessed by NHS professionals as having increased that much it isn’t possible for them to return to a residential setting as they need nursing care.


As the home is registered with the Care Quality Commission as a residential care home, when someone is assessed as needing nursing care or becomes eligible for Continuing Health Care funding, unfortunately as much as we’d like to welcome them back to the home we are unable to as we’d be breaching our registration restrictions.

My mother has been able to settle very well due to the help of the managers and staff. The home is always clean and tidy. The food seems excellent. There is a good atmosphere whenever I visit and staff are very kind and caring.

The kindness and support that mom has received from day one, when she was met by the lady from the office has remained. All the staff that mom has got to know are amazing and take the time to listened as she does like a chat especially when she has got a cup of tea. Mom decided she wanted her own curtains
and bed cover to make it look more like home and it does. The staff whether it be the team on the front desk, office and carers there is always someone around if you need advice or just a chat. One of the staff who has recently joined the team, thank you for answering any worries I might have if moms not been well. I don't think I could manage this journey without them. The only advice I can give is not to be afraid to ask for help if you have any worries or concerns as they are all there to help.

I couldn't be more satisfied. Mum has been at the Lodge since November and has clearly settled down well. She looks happier and healthier than I've seen her since her stroke last year. The staff are friendly and courteous which clearly makes for a calm harmonious atmosphere at the home.

We have found Bartley Green to be very caring and friendly. Nothing is too much for the staff. Our mother has not been this happy for a long time. Staff and management always take time to sit and talk to her.

My mum has been in the home since March 2013 and I have always found the staff to be very caring and kind to my mum, they have always been understanding of the problems she has. At the moment she is in the process of waiting to go into a nursing home which we are very sad about because we as a family
wish she could stay at this home but she needs nursing care. When she first went into this home the one thing that made my mind up was how well the rooms were laid out and also the care that she has been given since her mobility has got worse. It is just sad that Sanctuary Care does not provide nursing care.
