My review is in contrast to the positive reviews for Hamble Heights. However I visited every day, so I was probably more familiar with many ongoing issues and challenges on the floor my father lived on than relatives who visited less frequently or had relatives on other floors. My father was a resident for 12 months, during which time there were a lot of changes which impacted on service delivery, staff turnover etc.

Finding a care home for a relative is so very hard and stressful but I would advise you to look past the fixtures and fittings of a purpose-built home since these are not indicators of the levels of care and treatment your loved one will receive.

Reply from Nikki Richards, Home Manager at Hamble Heights Care Home

Thank you for your review of Hamble Heights and we are sorry that there were aspects of your father's care that fell short of your expectations. We take your concerns very seriously and value your feedback during the meetings that were held with the management team when your father was at the...

My friend has been extremely well cared for in the five years she was a resident at Hamble Heights. Her en-suite room was bright and comfortable. She could not have received better care anywhere else.

Both my step-father and my mother were residents at Hamble Heights.
Throughout their time there, they were treated with kindness and respect.
On each of my frequent visits to Hamble Heights, I was given a friendly greeting, offered a hot drink and given up to date information about my parent(s).
I was particularly moved that a nurse sat with my mother throughout her last night so that she would not be on her own.

I don't think my parents could have been given better care.

Reply from Amy Grohmann, Marketing Manager at Hamble Heights Care Home

Thank you so much for your kind words. We are very pleased that both your stepfather and mother were treated with the respect and care they deserved and you were provided with frequent information for your peace of mind. We pride ourselves on providing the highest quality of care for all our residents. Thank you again for taking the time to review our care home.

My father was a resident at Hamble Heights for 18 months and terminally ill with cancer. We visited several care homes in the area and the decision to choose Hamble heights was because we felt a welcoming, homely and very caring atmosphere. Coupled with this, we knew my father would receive the palliative care required from the professional staff. In all respects, we were not disappointed. Dad was very content at Hamble Heights and expressed that he was very happy in his 'new home'. No matter what day or time we visited, which was pretty variable, Dad was clean, warm, cosy and safe. His room was beautiful, light and airy with its own large en suite facilities. He enjoyed the food, especially the lovely English breakfasts. As a family visiting from afar, we were always well received and encouraged to use the in-house facilities for tea/coffee for ourselves. When Dad died, the love and understanding we received from all the staff were palpable. We were so lucky to have found Hamble Heights.

Generally very good but I was being pushed to have my father's body removed while it was still warm.

The care and compassion shown to my sister in law has been second to none. I cannot speak highly enough of all the management and staff involved with her care. We entrusted her into their home at Hamble Heights and they did not fail us.

As a family, we were always greeted and made to feel welcome. Any concerns we had were dealt with at the highest level straight away. She was a very sick lady, terminally ill who has sadly passed away now. We are comforted with the knowledge everyone did their very best for her and that she died peacefully. For this, we are eternally grateful.

We were made very welcome on our first visit to Hamble Heights to discuss our son's admission.

Since he has been there, the warmth, caring and concern of all the staff, not only for our son but also for us, his very elderly parents, has been superb and very comforting to know he is so well cared for in such a friendly atmosphere by such cheerful staff and that he has settled well is a huge relief for us. We thank them all.

I cannot thank all the staff at Hamble Heights enough for the kindness, compassion and care they gave my family during my Dad’s 10-month stay with them. They treated my Dad with such dignity and made such efforts to get to know him despite his illness and difficulty in communicating. The activities that they engage residents and their carers in, meant that my mum and dad could enjoy being together again. Constantly, the thoughtful things that all staff did and provided, made a very difficult time so much easier. The end of life care that they provided for him and the care for us at this time was exemplary; we are so very grateful Dad was able to stay at Hamble Heights for this. He was able to die peacefully, with his family around him in familiar surroundings - a real home from home. It is a very special place and I only wish that every family going through a similar experience were lucky enough to have their loved one cared for in this way. Thank you Hamble Heights.

I cannot thank all the management and staff enough for all the care, consideration and kindness that they have all given to my father and his little dog. They have made the very difficult decision to put dad into a care home easier. I know dad is well cared for and shown love, compassion and he is treated with dignity. Since being in the home, he has put weight on, he is no longer afraid, frightened or unhappy as he has constant company and care. All the management and staff also treat me as part of the family when I visit and always ask how I am which is lovely as it is never easy to leave your loved one. I looked at 12 other homes before choosing Hamble Heights and I am so glad I did. I can leave dad and go away and lead my life knowing he is well cared for and there is no need for worry. The manager of the home realised the importance of keeping dad and his dog together and accepted the dog into the home which was extremely kind and considerate. A huge thanks to all.

Hamble Heights is not just another care home, it’s a CARING HOME, and there is a huge difference. Every worker accepts management responsibility at their level, from the top down, to create an atmosphere of calm, stability and respect, to ensure each resident and fellow worker is treated as a member of one big family, and they never fail. I know I have made the right choice in choosing Hamble Heights for my wife, that I can leave after a visit totally reassured. I hope, when my turn comes, there’s space for me.

Hamble Heights provided excellent care for both my father and the family before, during, and after his short time there. Management was really caring and helpful. The staff looked after my father with real consideration for his needs.

Overall this is an excellent care home that strives to give residents and their families a homelike experience. Nothing was too much trouble for them in making everyone feel really comfortable. I can't praise their efforts highly enough.

I have and will always recommend Hamble Heights. The administrative, nursing and caring staff are sensitive, friendly, informative and professional. I can’t thank them enough for looking after my husband during the 3 years and then the final days of his life, caring for him and myself, treating us with tenderness and dignity. My deepest and sincerest thanks to all concerned. It’s the management and staff that make the home excellent.
