When the 'A' team are on duty, excellent care, not always the same care by others, "little things matter"!

My mother loved her fortnight respite stay and was loved and cared for by all the lovely staff so much so that she was reluctant to leave! She looks so well and happy and was made to feel very welcome. She will be back when the next holiday comes along for my brother or me.

You ask me not to mention names, but there are staff names that I will not forget. Each has become a friend in his/her unique way. Thank you. I will never know how you do it, but I can pass in a corridor someone I have never seen before and hear myself greeted by name! It has been a formative experience
for me, to sit at a meal and talk with stroke victims (or those with a minor degree of dementia) and to find that, with a little listening and a question or two, I can bring the table to life with happy, if sometimes incomprehensible, chatter. I have not given the highest rating for food, but I can see your difficulties.

My husband has been in Bridge House now for four months. I've been very impressed by how the staff welcomed him and worked hard to understand and adjust to his needs, both physical and cognitive. They have also made me and other family members feel very welcome when we visit. Their activities programme
is excellent, with a real effort made to cater to individual interests and abilities. I often take him down to the Bistro for a cup of coffee when I visit, and enjoy the friendly atmosphere with a welcome not just from staff but from other residents and visitors. It is also very helpful to be so near the centre of Abingdon so I can take him out for a cup of coffee in the town.

I came to Bridge House Care Home after three months in various hospitals. I have a single room/bedroom and a small patio where I have lovely plants. The staff are all very helpful and make sure that we have all that we need. The food is good with a good variation. The trips that are organised are entertaining
and a good variation.

I came to Bridge House for two weeks respite care while my family travelled to Australia. There was a very warm welcome from all the staff which made settling in very easy. My room was extremely comfortable. I appreciated the many quiet areas as well as the activities that are provided. A good visit.

Outstanding standards of care and compassion shown to all residents, witnessed on a daily basis. Nothing is too much trouble for all the lovely staff and exceptional standards and communication from the nursing and management team. All the staff at Bridge House work together happily to create an atmosphere
of calm and peace.
Beautiful home and lovely rooms. Lots of interesting activities take place to keep residents stimulated. Food is varied and high quality. I would not hesitate to recommend Bridge House to anyone looking for a care home to take good care of their loved one.

I am very pleased with the care Mum has received over the past 7 years she has been resident at Bridge House. The home has responded and adapted to her changing needs, keeping her safe and well looked after. Communication with the home manager has always been excellent and a huge support. The activities
team are outstanding, reaching out to the residents and organising engaging pastimes that Mum has very much enjoyed over the years. It is also a big plus having the lovely hair salon. Not least, I have always been made very welcome by all the staff when visiting and it is a pleasure to spend time with Mum in the friendly and caring environment of Bridge House.

The staff are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble and they are all kind and caring. Although covid made things difficult in relation to visiting etc everyone did what they could to allow my brother and me to have contact with my Mum. The staff who arranged the video calls were brilliant. Now things
are back to normal my Mum has been out and about which she obviously enjoys. Although my Mum has found some aspects of living in a Care home difficult, we have never had to worry about the care she receives. Thank you to you all.

Excellent facilities and garden. The activity coordinators are brilliant and organise a lot of activities. Have been some staff shortages, which has impacted on some aspects of care. I have seen some messy rooms and individuals after food times.
Reply from Lucy Porter, Home Manager at Bridge House Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave a review. We were so saddened to read your thoughts and would urge you to come and speak to us about how you feel. As you know the past couple of years have been particularly difficult for the care industry and this has had an unavoidable impact on the recruitment of permanent team members across the sector. We have ensured that our staffing levels are maintained to meet the complex needs of our residents, however, at times, we have needed to enlist the support of trusted agency team members to ensure this. I would like to reassure you that we are working hard to recruit new permanent members and I’m happy to confirm there are a number of new members due to join us shortly, once all of our careful checks have been completed. Our team remains committed to continuously ensuring quality care is provided to our treasured residents and they continue to do all they can to ensure our residents remain happy, engaged and fully supported.

One very noticeable thing about Bridge House is the generally cheerful and welcoming impression given by all members of staff – especially impressive during what must be very straining times. No one ever makes you feel a nuisance. There is sometimes a difference of information – e.g. on whether or not
masks need to be worn in the garden – as is sometimes a bit difficult to keep up with changes of information.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.780)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.780) out of 10 for Bridge House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.780 for Bridge House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (254 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 318 Ratings = 4.78
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bridge House Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
