Mum came into Bowes House after a 5-week stay in hospital, specifically for respite care. The home is excellent in every way. They made Mum feel cared for, comfortable and safe. Mum came in with complications which were quickly addressed and her recovery will be all the better for being in safe hands
with the wonderful staff at Bowes House. Lovely room, great food, great care, friendly and approachable staff. Thank you, Bowes House.

My husband came to Bowes House via NHS on end of his life. Since then because of the first-class care and attention, we have received from all the staff looking after him, his dementia is negligible and even being bedridden, they have managed to get him in a chair. He is happy and contented and accepts
freely that this is now his home. The staff are all great and I have every faith in them. Since Bowes House, my stress levels are low and I don't have to worry about my husband's welfare. Three months and he is still alive. Thank you.

After a questionable experience at another care home, Bowes House Care Home was a breath of fresh air. We were welcomed, prior to booking, and invited to view the facilities and meet the staff who showed an interest in my wife and explained their philosophy of care. It was obvious that other residents
had a great rapport with them.
On admittance, my wife was not easy to look after but their kind and positive approach won her over and she was able to trust the staff for the rest of her stay, the staff achieve much that I had not been able to do and I have booked, already, for a further stay in seven weeks. Thank you all.

From the initial enquiry to the time when my mum was admitted permanently, I found all the staff to be friendly, helpful and informative. Nothing was too much trouble. Mum has settled in really well and along with the overall standard of care she is receiving, I have peace of mind that she is safe and
has a quality of life.

The staff are very welcoming and made s feel at home. Residents have a good restaurant, coffee shop and daily entertainment. The rooms are good with shower and t.v. Freeview is available, other tv packages would be good but is not available. Care and nursing staff are excellent.

We are delighted with the positive comments and scores for Bowes House. Some residents do have additional TV packages installed in their rooms, and we can support families with organising this if required. The customer relations manager will be more than happy to talk to you directly about this. Thanks again for taking the time to leave such a lovely review.

Bowes House were excellent in supporting my father-in-law during a short stay following a prolonged hospital admission. They were welcoming and supportive and the progress he made during that time was excellent, gaining mobility back. The staff made him feel welcome and were kind and supportive. I feel
this all contributed positively to his recovery.

Bowes House were brilliant in helping get my father in for respite care. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly throughout his stay with them and helped him get from being bedridden to back walking with a frame. We are all extremely grateful for the care and support that he received with them.

My grandmother was in Bowes House Care Home for almost a year, up until her recent death. Bowes House is such a wonderful place, not only the place itself but their support and care is just amazing and the staff are so lovely too. There's always lots going on and the residents who join in always seem
to have lots of fun. My grandmother's final stages of life were made much better thanks to the team at Bowes House.

My father's well-being has improved since his arrival at Bowes House. For 8 weeks in hospital, he hardly ate and did not drink enough. With no tv or stimulation, Dad's will to survive declined. I love his room, the decor, the comfy bed and the garden view. The staff are very friendly and nothing is
too much trouble. Bowes House made Dad's 99th birthday a memorable one with lots of decorations and a special cake. I feel so much happier knowing that Dad is enjoying his final stages of his life. Thank you Bowes House.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.817)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.817) out of 10 for Bowes House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.817 for Bowes House is calculated as follows: ( (232 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 279 Ratings = 4.817
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bowes House is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 90 registered maximum number of service users is 18, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
