Fees are subject to a pre-admission needs assessment which is required to fully understand the level
of care and support required by each individual. Premium rooms normally require an additional charge.
Nursing fees include the Funded Nursing Contribution (FNC) if you are eligible. There are no additional fees for respite stays.

My mum spent six weeks respite in Bowes House. During her time there, Mum was treated with respect and she received excellent care. All my dealings with the arrangements for her stay were dealt with promptly and efficiently with the utmost professionalism. This was our first experience of a care home
and I would not hesitate to go back to Bowes House if it was needed. Thank you.

My mother is very happy at Bowes House. Although her memory is fading, she is always pleased to have visitors and is very positive about her new home. The staff went above and beyond the call of duty to allow us to visit (from New Zealand), at the end of lockdown. We had a private place to meet with
masks, other ppe and sanitiser after lateral flow and temperature checks. Everyone is kind and friendly and I can't commend the facility highly enough.

Mum has been a resident at Bowes, for over five years and is happy and content at the place she calls home. The staff at Bowes are what makes it such a special place. Having spent a number of weeks recovering after an operation. I only can say that it has been a great experience. All the staff are wonderful and caring. I have gained my strength and confidence and made many new friends. The food is excellent, the activities are really enjoyable, and I've enjoyed the
time having coffee with family in the cafe. Thank you, everyone, in the Barley Unit; you are all wonderful!

The Bowes House has been a godsend for my mum. The staff are the most understanding people I have ever come across. They obviously adore their jobs. Their attention to detail is amazing. I have noticed a great improvement since the new manager arrived. Today is my mum's 94th birthday. The staff have made this such a special day for her. She's has decorations and a cake, and will have a decorated table at lunchtime. She said that she is very spoilt. This is an example of the care that
the home gives to each resident and to the families of the residents. I would not hesitate to recommend Bowes House.

My mum received such amazing care with a great deal of dignity and respect during her time at Bowes House which was so lovely to see and know which also helped and eased the family's thoughts and feelings. Our mothers end of life care in September 2021 was extremely good and gave our mum dignity and respect in her last days. The staff were attentive, supportive and welcoming ensuring our mothers needs were met.
In addition the support they gave us as a family at this time was compassionate and respectful.
General guidance and information of our mothers health was communicated well.
The team leaders, management, activity workers , care workers and reception all played a part in allowing our mums passing to be free of pain and comfortable. Thank you

Friendly staff and nice environment. More help is needed with Mum's personal care and hair washing, cutting her nails etc. The staff may need more training to encourage.

My mum was at Bowes House for 4 years. She was loved by all the staff and was always well cared for. She was treated with respect and dignity as her health declined over the years. (died 24th July). Whilst mum was able, she really enjoyed the activities, particularly the music events. I have no hesitation
in recommending Bowes House to those with loved ones who now need assistance.

Throughout the pandemic, the staff at Bowes House have all been brilliant. The staff on Mum's unit treat her with care and respect and all go the extra mile to keep her safe and comfortable. Infection control has been excellent. The Management's new ideas and systems are welcomed and appreciated.

My mother had become extremely anxious, and really needed somebody with her 24 hours a day, something that I couldn't achieve for her. Bowes House seemed to me to be the gold standard for care locally, and in a very short period of time my mother was admitted, but because of the Covid lockdowns she
had to isolate herself initially, which was not an ideal start. It took her several weeks to find her feet at Bowes House, but suddenly she was back to her normal self, laughing and smiling in the Skype calls we had. She immersed herself in the many activities and made many friends, staff as well as residents. But then about four weeks later she passed away, peacefully. This was unexpected, but at least I have the comfort that I don't think that I could have done much better for her towards the end of her life, and she really seemed to enjoy those last four weeks.
One other point, I feel that all the staff knew my mother as a person, and they seemed to very much enjoy her for who she was.

My 99-year-old mother, who has vascular dementia, has been a resident at Bowes House for over four years. My mother continues to receive excellent care from a wonderful team. All the staff deserve the highest praise. My mother is always treated with dignity and is always kept clean and presentable.
The CEO and management team also deserve praise, especially in these very difficult times, for keeping us well informed and facilitating visits at the earliest opportunity. The new manager’s introduction of monthly relatives Zoom meetings is welcomed. Varied daily activities have continued to be provided by the lifestyle team and the weekly video calls with our relatives have been very helpful.

After doing some research and speaking with friends who had the experience of Bowes House, our family decided to choose the nursing home for our father. He needed palliative care after he spent six weeks in hospital. I can’t thank the staff enough for their care for dad and support for our mother and
myself in allowing us to visit him the weekend before his passing and to allow us both to be with him when he sadly passed away after a short two-week stay.
The sad thing is that he was too ill to appreciate his surroundings. During the difficult times we are all experiencing, the staff were amazing and couldn’t have done more to keep us informed of dad’s condition and always helpful when we called. I have to thank in particular the staff on duty during the late afternoon, evening and night of dad’s passing, so professional and caring, I couldn’t imagine a better place for dad to spend his last days. It will be lovely to visit as a family to thank all the staff when things improve.

I’m passionate about my role and the home.


I like to see lots of smiles and interaction with staff and residents. A good working day for me is to know that I have given my all to my team and to residents, knowing that they have all had a good day and that the care they’ve received has been the best.


Before joining, I’d worked in independent care homes for ten years. I wanted to stay in the care sector while developing my skills and career. Care UK really helps you to progress.


I think my proudest moments at Care UK were being nominated for the Team Leader of the Year award in the Care UK Residential Care Services Awards, and then being promoted to my current role.
