During this difficult and worrying time, Bowes have helped mum to make a video call to either myself or my sister every week. Mum tells us that she is happy and that she is being given great meals. It is comforting to see that she looks happy and well. She regards the staff as her friends and often tells us how lovely they are.

I would like to thank all of the staff at Bowes House, Hailsham, and particularly those in "Meadow", for their professionalism and kindness in caring for my mother during the Covid-19 crisis. It has been a comfort during this difficult time, when direct contact with mum is impossible, to know that she is being so well looked after. Thank you!

I couldn't wish for better care for my mum. All the staff are excellent. During the lockdown the carers have been going the extra mile to make sure the residents still keep to a routine, still doing quizzes etc. They have arranged face to face WhatsApp calls which has been great. I really can't thank them enough for amazing dedication.

Although this has been a difficult and worrying few months I have taken great comfort in knowing that my mum is being cared for in the best place possible to meet her needs. She has been resident at Bowes House for many years so the staff know all her needs and preferences and I know that their standards of care is excellent. We have been kept well informed of her progress and had a video call which was very reassuring to see Mum looking so well. As well as local contact with staff from Bowes House, the Company CEO has given regular email updates which have given a calm, considered overview of the challenges at this difficult time.

I cannot thank all the staff at Bowes House enough for looking after Mum so well.

Mum has been in Bowes House for 3 years and specifically during COVID lockdown. I have as with every other relation/visitor been unable to visit but have both been regularly kept up to date with her status by phone conversation/facetime and from the management by letter with overviews of the situation. The staff have been very welcoming and helpful particularly when the vagaries of modern technology and a distant face can confuse an Alzheimic mind. They have obviously also maintained a very high professional standard in the face of adversity and for that we both warmly thank them and admire their efforts. May Mum's and all the carers' lives return to normality as soon as possible .

Lovely people at Hailsham, the staff do an amazing job. Meadow is not the easiest wing to work in, but the staff are kind, caring and patient, I cannot praise them enough. Over the years, 5 years if memory serves, I have never had to complain about the standard of care and I have had no worries over the lock-in period that they would take great care of Mum. The senior staff also have always been easy to deal with and do a good job.

When describing Bowes House I always say its like a 5* hotel. We are so very happy with the care facilities at the home. It is a great relief to us knowing that Dad is in such safe, caring hands which before coming to Bowes House this was a constant worry for us. We know now that we made the right decision and wish to thank you all so much for taking such good care of him.

June was a very difficult month, not only for the staff but also for residents and their families. Bowes House staff have always been ready to answer queries and although visiting was not allowed, they welcomed people to speak to loved ones via FaceTime. They really could not have been more accommodating even if, at times, it was difficult to get through to the units because of the pure volume of calls.

Day care - always ready to help. Always use your name. Always keep the resident clean and tidy. Always find time for a few words. Night care sometimes a bit short.

Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Bowes House

Thank you for your comments and excellent scores – we’ll be sure to pass this onto the team who will be very happy to hear your kind words. In regards to the care at night, I would like to reassure you that we always make sure that we have enough team members on hand to ensure residents are safe...

My mother-in-law was in for 8 weeks respite care and was looked after very well by all the staff members.

If we needed to do the same or for long term care, we would put Bowed house at the top of the list.

I can describe Bowes House as a very friendly place. My husband is in the dementia unit and can only say how well he is looked after. The team on this unit are mainly young and amazing they care. I can't look after my husband at home anymore. I feel more than happy to have him cared for in Bowes House.

Finlin MartinJob Title:Home Manager

I am a highly experienced Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife, qualified in India in 1993, with over three decades of diverse clinical and leadership experience across India, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom.

In 2015, a deeply personal experience - caring for my mother during her battle with cancer - became a turning point in my career. Following her passing, I chose to transition from hospital-based care into the nursing home sector, wanting to improve the quality of life for older people. Over the past 11 years, I have worked as a Home Manager and Peripatetic Manager across groups of nursing homes, specialising in complex care including brain injuries, learning disabilities, and dementia.

I remain deeply passionate about elderly care, taking pride in providing personalised support. Each day, I value having meaningful engagement with residents, especially those without regular visitors, and I believe in maintaining dignity, compassion, and respect in every interaction.
