Apart from the lack of urgency from the plumbers regarding repairs/hygiene I have no complaints what so ever rather the reverse.

On arrival - initial meetings with management went very well. The assessment carried out with professionalism.
A few hiccups regarding mum's care initially but all rectified within hours of our next visit. Thanks.
Mum has settled in quite well and looks forward to her long stay.

Staff were extremely helpful when arranging for my ex-husband to be transferred from hospital to be nearer to his immediate family in Hailsham. Without their guidance and help I honestly don't think we would have been able to get him transferred.

Bowes House is everything a care home for the elderly should be. The most important consideration is that my aunt is happy to call Bowes House "home".

In every aspect, I rate Bowes House "excellent". The building is light, airy and warm. The staff caring, welcoming and warm with sufficient time to ensure the well-being of all residents. Food and drink isn't "institutional", ample in quantity of good quality with variety/choices to cater for all diets. Planned activities ensure residents maintain interests, are participating and encourage enjoyment.

Mum has been at Bowes House for 6 months in the dementia unit and is very happy there. The staff on the dementia unit are wonderful - unfailingly kind and upbeat and professional. Mum always looks amazing as they take care to choose her most glamorous clothes with her and are always trying out different approaches to make her happy - favourite foods, drinks and music. She is more content there than I have seen her since this dementia journey started 5 years ago and loves all the staff - her face lights up when she sees them and they seem to get equal pleasure in seeing her. I know that she is very well looked after and I can trust the staff and the home to care for her to the highest possible standard. Mum has a lovely room overlooking the courtyard and enjoys watching the birds and the clouds and equally enjoys being in the main dining room where there is a lovely atmosphere and always something going on.

Although front of house gives the impression of a well-run establishment, care and staffing need to be addressed. There is no continuity of night staff and staffing levels. Particularly with health and safety issues. When the resident requests to see the doctor for an appointment this is not always done and advice/prescription may follow.

Personal hygiene could be improved. General housekeeping and nutrition are very good.

Finlin MartinJob Title:Home Manager

I am a highly experienced Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife, qualified in India in 1993, with over three decades of diverse clinical and leadership experience across India, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom.

In 2015, a deeply personal experience - caring for my mother during her battle with cancer - became a turning point in my career. Following her passing, I chose to transition from hospital-based care into the nursing home sector, wanting to improve the quality of life for older people. Over the past 11 years, I have worked as a Home Manager and Peripatetic Manager across groups of nursing homes, specialising in complex care including brain injuries, learning disabilities, and dementia.

I remain deeply passionate about elderly care, taking pride in providing personalised support. Each day, I value having meaningful engagement with residents, especially those without regular visitors, and I believe in maintaining dignity, compassion, and respect in every interaction.
