As you walk in the atmosphere is inviting. All the staff are friendly. Residents are well looked after and there is always a choice of activity with caring staff. I have recommended Bowes to others. Although I think costs are high, I feel happy leaving our friend here.

Bowes House has been very supportive in helping my Aunt make the difficult adjustment to living in care. The staff are always bright and cheerful and happy to talk about any concerns we may have. They have lots of interesting people in for talks and entertainment, including lots of animals!

I brought my mother in for a respite period. My mother has a combination of physical and mental issues that require extensive care and requirements. Everything I found at Bowes House delighted me - the private rooms, the communal rooms, the outside patio, the people. She received excellent care and
responded well to the people here.

My husband has always been looked after very well and the standard is second to none from anything else I have seen.

A lot of effort is put in to entertain residents with activities all day with even a cinema showing films once or twice a week.

All staff show kindness and care to all residents

and visitors alike.

I was recommended Bowes House by my family for respite care after having a bout of pneumonia and Australian flu, especially as I lived alone in Eastbourne. I must say, I could not have had better care had I been the Queen of England.

The en-suite rooms are lovely. The food is excellent. The quality of care is good, but sometimes understaffed. Good entertainment and excellent hairdresser. The total package is excellent and thoroughly recommended. I am so pleased my mother was able to spend the last few months in this happy environment.

I had two knee replacements, first in April 2017 and the second in October 2017. I was so pleased with the care and dedication I had received during my first respite stay there, I knew I would be happy - and was - with a second visit there.

No details for my comfort were spared. I give my full praise

for the running of Bowes House.

Very happy with everything, as my mum moved from one unit to another unit and she was upset leaving the other staff but has found the new staff very good, they picked up very quickly that she was unwell and kept us up to date with her progress. They have explained about her medication being changed
and are still concerned that she doesn't seem herself like she was before she was ill.

Bowes House has been fantastic for mum. It is clean and bright. Mums needs have been catered for and the atmosphere is very friendly. Food is amazing and enough for mum. Mum has been entertained most days and able to sit in the garden when she wants. What a lovely place for her to stay.

I stayed at Bowes for 1 month while my family went on holiday. It worked out so well as they could go away without worry. The home is very central with everything on hand. The staff made me feel welcome and at home. The added bonus of stay at Bowes was that my dear husband is also a resident so it gave
us a months holiday together.

The service and attention that we received from the staff at Wealden in Bowes House was absolutely first class.
Nothing was too much trouble, day or night and the care and quality we received was first class.
My husband was treated with total care at all times. They fed us and made sure that we
are and looked after ourselves.
Thank you once again, Bowes House you are all stars.

During a very emotional/stressful time watching my Dad lose his battle against cancer, I can honestly say we couldn't have experienced a more friendly, helpful, courteous service from all the staff.

They were absolutely amazing, we couldn't have asked for any more. This was much appreciated. Thank

you so much.

At a difficult time, I was concerned about my Grandad going into a care home, but I was completely wrong. Bowes House was outstanding; such a friendly and welcoming place. My Grandad didn't have long left and we got a call one night to go there immediately. 4 days later, we hadn't left..
Bowes House
provided us with food, blankets, somewhere to sleep so that we didn't have to leave. We never expected that treatment. Their generosity made such a horrible time a bit more bearable. Their actions meant my nan got one last night next to her husband and we were with him as he took his last breath.

My husband has received excellent care during his stay at Bowes House. He arrived from the hospital in need of respite care, having been bedfast for a month. He is now able to stand and walk a little way and his appetite has improved. The standard of food is very good with plenty of choices. I have
been very pleased with the general ambience of Bowes House - it is modern and clean but homely and relaxed too. All the care staff have been kind and helpful and have met all his needs with great cheerfulness.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.817)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.817) out of 10 for Bowes House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.817 for Bowes House is calculated as follows: ( (232 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 279 Ratings = 4.817
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bowes House is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 90 registered maximum number of service users is 18, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
