My father moved into the care home in September '21 after it became apparent that he could no longer be looked after safely at home. After months of anxiety and increasing despair, wondering what to do and how we could improve Dad's quality of life, we discovered Gracewell of Salisbury. It was a difficult time made easier for the whole family by the friendly and helpful staff - for whom nothing seems to be too much trouble, and are professional in every way.

Reply from Carol Brewster, General Manager at Salisbury Manor

Gracewell of Salisbury appreciate moving into a care home can be an unsettling time. This is why we take the time to engage with family members and friends of the resident to make the process as smooth as possible, to get to know the resident on a personal level. We are pleased your father has settled in well.

I can’t thank the staff of Gracewell of Salisbury enough for the care given to my mother during her time as a resident.

The standards of professionalism were high, and the warmth and compassion shown by everyone in interactions with all residents were exemplary. It was clear to me that nothing was too much trouble. The demands placed on the home and its staff by my mother’s fast deteriorating Alzheimer’s were extensive and various, but the challenge was met in every aspect and both I and my mother were continually left with the clear impression that my mother was safe, being well looked after, and was cared for in very aspect. Kindness, warmth and compassion together with professional care were the hallmarks Thank you.

My husband was admitted to Gracewell of Salisbury on 24th July 2021 following two traumatic stays in hospital. His mobility was severely compromised in that he could neither walk, talk or feed himself. It was thanks to the unstinting kindness, compassion and practical care provided, including communal activities, that he is now beginning to walk again and is back to where he was six months ago. The most notable feature of Gracewell for us has been the family atmosphere. The level of compassion and understanding shown to each and every resident is reflected by staff at every level, even when under pressure.

My mother spent two years at Gracewell of Salisbury until she passed away 2 weeks ago. Everyone there treated her with such love and affection and made her time there really enjoyable and fun.

I visited often and found all the staff from office to carers, nurses and housekeeping to be efficient caring and nothing was too much trouble. I thoroughly recommend Gracewell of Salisbury.

My mother first went to Gracewell for four weeks of respite care following hospital admission for a fall. She is in her late nineties and physically frail though of sound mind. Initially, she was anxious and reluctant to settle, but the staff could not have been more welcoming and caring, and now she is a permanent resident. I have been immensely impressed by Gracewell. Care is provided to the highest standard and comfort to both residents and relatives. All my questions and concerns are listened to and taken seriously. The food is good. I am particularly impressed by the range of activities offered daily, which provide plenty of mental and social stimulus and fun! I am so grateful for all the help and support Gracewell has given my mother. The staff have gone above and beyond my expectations. It is a lovely, happy place. I recommend Gracewell highly.

My late father received end of life care at Gracewell for 10 days having spent 8 weeks in hospital. He received excellent care from the staff and had a lovely room opening up onto the rear patio. As retired nurses, my husband and I have an awareness and understanding of what good care involves. We could not speak more highly of the care and attention my father received. He was always treated with respect and dignity.
The staff were very helpful and accommodating in respect to visiting considering the restrictions due to Covid -19. During our visits, our family were also well looked after by the staff with offers of hot drinks and sandwiches.

When he passed away the staff showed great empathy and compassion to us all.

The transition for my dad moving into a care home was a daunting prospect but the staff at Gracewell of Salisbury made me feel so comfortable and welcomed him. Due to a deterioration in his health, my Grandfather needed to move into a Care Home directly from hospital in the midst of some of the worst weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic. We were all keen that he move closer to family, a considerable distance from the hospital he was in, complicating the move further. The team at Gracewell of Salisbury were absolutely brilliant, working hard to make the move as smooth as they could and going to great efforts to ensure my Grandfather felt "at home" and settled quickly, despite the necessary challenge of welcoming a new resident in the midst of a global pandemic. His room was beautifully prepared in advance, his support bespoke to his needs and the Gracewell team bent over backwards to facilitate regular telephone and video calls with family until we could visit in person. Sadly my Grandfather deteriorated further and has subsequently died but I feel incredibly grateful that he was in such a wonderful and caring environment during his final months.

My Mother went into Gracewell of Salisbury in February 2021 - during lockdown. This was an extremely difficult time for my mother and our family, for her to go into a nursing home, aged 99 and with slow onset Alzheimer's. All the staff at Gracewell's - Administration, Carers and Nurses have all been more than helpful and caring during the time my mother has been there. She has settled amazingly well and I cannot thank the staff enough - I feel so much more relaxed now about my mother's care.

Our mother has been in the home for six weeks as her advancing dementia, and distance from us meant she was no longer able to live alone. From our first contact with the wonderful Home Admissions Advisor, we have been constantly impressed with the care and helpfulness of all the staff whether nursing, reception, care assistants etc. Mum has settled well, visits have been possible with the help of staff who does the Covid testing. The local GP visits the home weekly, food is superb and her room is comfortable. It is never an easy decision to move a loved one into care but I cannot fault the effort and assistance from the whole team in Salisbury. Mum understands why she is in the home and always tells us how kind everyone is. The memory floor for dementia sufferers is bright and colourful, they have their own dining room and it’s great that we could bring paintings and photos to make the room seem like home.

Moving my mum, who has dementia, into a home was a very stressful experience but the staff at Gracewell were incredibly supportive throughout. I feel well informed about her care and the admin and admissions team have been kind, efficient and responsive.

This has not been a good time for any of us to cope with having to say goodbye to a frail old person, into an ambulance, and then not see them for weeks. My mother, 88, had a few nasty falls and in the first week of January was in hospital. Then we needed respite care with a high level of nursing available. All had to be done via IT. Then Gracewell came into view. Since that day there has been little to worry about. The point is that, despite all the Covid related restrictions and the fact that I haven't seen Mum since Jan 6th, I have felt totally confident that Mum was getting the best care and a much-needed rest after the hurly-burly of hospital. The first aspect to become apparent is that the administration is highly efficient. Any question, of which there were many at the start, was answered within the working day and resolved. The clinical team, lead with attention to detail, was good at feedback. Mum is now ready to return home thanks to a lot of kind care.

My parents have had a difficult time adjusting to life in a carehome. The staff have been so helpful in trying to find a way to help them get the most of the experience of respite. Mum had been deteriorating quite rapidly since reaching 90 and having been independent for many years was extremely apprehensive regarding residential care. After contracting Covid in November and being hospitalised, Mum was quite clearly struggling to try to cope after returning home and felt extremely lonely and more ready to try respite care in a residential home. My sister and I visited Gracewell Salisbury in September 20 together with a number of other care homes and both felt that Gracewell ticked all the boxes to meet Mum's needs. It has been a big step, not just for Mum but for us as well, and the support we received from the lady who deals with Admissions was a huge help in making the process less stressful. Since Mum has been at Gracewell we have found all the staff we have dealt with extremely helpful and supportive and nothing seems too much trouble. Pod visiting has been a big help along with being able to arrange FaceTime appointments which have been great.

My father, aged 94, came to Gracewell of Salisbury on 27th February 2020, with severe dementia, as he was unable to stay at home despite having a 24hr live-in carer. As a family, we had to find a residential home for Dad very quickly. The admission was organised in such a professional manner, efficient and caring.
We have been overwhelmed by the understanding, compassion and practical care shown to Dad and the family. I cannot fault the care given to us all. The welcome Dad received was so special, and he settled straight away. He has been at Gracewell one week now, and it has all gone so smoothly. Every member of staff really cares. I genuinely feel this very high standard of care will continue for my dad and us.
Thank you for being such a professional, caring team.

I highly recommend Gracewell of Salisbury. It is exceptional.

This is a notably elegant place to call home. Not the distant kind of elegance, though; even the very stylish interior decor has features to raise a smile. We have a well-dressed lounge so right for respectable lounging, and there's a courtyard with space for parties and appletrees. Clearly, senior management is setting the tone of benevolent efficiency and doing it with a charm. The home carers for many people with many problems they give time and thought and attention for particular concerns; this is impressive. While standards of personal care can fluctuate occasionally, you know you are in good hands. Cheerful carers will show remarkable anticipation of their needs and serious attention to them, despite schedules. At meals, we have varied menus and good well-balanced food, with an amenable approach to differing tastes and dietary needs. For fun, we have an imaginative and energetic activities coordinator offering events in the lounge and excursions beyond the building. The visiting library; soon knows your tastes and keeps them supplied. Behind the scenes, you glimpse the computerised monitoring of our wellbeing. Staff contribute to our care plans which are updated regularly.

I joined Salisbury Manor because I wanted to make a difference. Every day is different, and I love how Care UK ensures that residents are living fulfilling lives. It's important that we are not only respectful of each other, but also of the fact that this is the residents’ home, and it is a privilege to support them.

I qualified as a nurse in 2003 – it was such a dream. Even today, I feel proud to be a nurse. I have worked in a variety of roles and gained different experiences. Before working at Salisbury Manor, I was a Deputy Ward Sister at New Hall Hospital for two years, and before that, I spent 19 years at Salisbury Hospital.

I believe that to bea Home Manager, you need to lead by example. We are here to serve residents and make their lives fulfilled, so it’s important to be supportive and ready to listen. You also need to empower the team and help them to learn and grow.
