Management friendly, efficient and good communicator. In the time my relative was there, COVID restrictions were well adhered to. One felt confident in the whole staff. 24/7 care is appreciated.

Food is rated excellent. All nursing and medical needs are well met. Any incidents, such as a fall or any other worries, are reported promptly.

Reply from Siobhan fennell, General Manager at Barchester Ritson Lodge

Thank you. The staff loved your mother as we do all our residents. I will pass on your feedback to the team as it is always nice to know we have looked after the family as well as the resident. Please keep in touch.

My aunt and uncle both came to Ritson Lodge when they could no longer manage at home with visiting carers. From first contact, the staff from the top down have shown themselves to be very professional, but also are the most caring team, doing a difficult job extremely well. An example of this is the way that an off-duty nurse came into work to see my uncle and how he was doing on two occasions. A lovely, hardworking team.

Review from Ken E (Husband of Resident) published on 6 July 2022 Submitted via Postal Card

The place is always spotless as usual, but I would like staff to find a solution to my wife's tearful times and less time in bed when she is not in the best of moods. I often find a photo album helps when I visit, and her mood is not very friendly. I'm also pleased the situation with her chair is sorted.

Review from Rikid (Partner of Resident) published on 6 July 2022 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

Riston Lodge is an excellent home, so clean and modern. Staff are busy, always on the move making sure patients and residents are catered for to the highest standard - what a wonderful place. Food is always hot. Floors are always clean and tidy. Some of the most skilled personnel are on hand day and night. Very light, modern premises. Everyone there, from janitors to nurses, speaks to residents and patients - they treat all visitors with total respect - nothing but praise.

Review from Felicity L (Cousin of Resident) published on 23 June 2022 Submitted via Postal Card

My cousin has resided at Ritson Lodge since January 2019. The staff are very kind, and he feels safe and secure there. The chef is very hardworking and is a great chef, making nutritious meals. I particularly like the atmosphere in the evening time when one staff member is on. Staff are keen to preserve my cousin's dignity. Carers work really hard and are the unrecognised heroes of society. I like to witness the staff working well and smoothly together. The gardens are lovely, and my cousin likes the entertainment. Thank you.

Ritson Lodge is a lovely place. My sister is in the dementia unit, it was a warm cosy feel with lots of memory jogging, posters and memorabilia on the walls. The staff are to a person warm, friendly and is borne out in how my sister has blossomed in their care and always smiling at the staff. She can be challenging at times and soon lets you know if she's not happy but this has never been the case at Ritson.

My aunt and uncle after a turbulent year I managed to move them into Ritson Lodge they had been in separate care homes for a while and wanted to move closer to their family and be together. The staff have made them most welcome, they started in two separate rooms, but they asked if they could be together and they put them in one room and made their other room a lounge for them which they are very pleased with, they can't thank the staff enough and the food is great. They are slowly getting used to the change in lifestyle and lots of support from the staff. When Covid reduces and they can go out on trips and I can take them out I think this will help a lot. I would like to thank all the staff for their help and kindness, especially the lady who first showed me around and has taken care of my aunt and uncle and their needs and has kept me informed and advised me on their care.

All the Ritson Lodge staff provided excellent care for my mother who was a resident for four years and recently died at the home. The care staff provided very sensitive and attentive care during my mother's last couple of weeks. The administrative staff were flexible and sympathetic throughout.

In general, I find care at Ritson Lodge very good, but as in all things, everything is not perfect. I would like to see my wife given an exercise to her left leg which I can see the muscle disappearing. Also, I enjoy the fact that I can visit 2 times a week and also feed her. By doing this I feel more involved with her care and I have more contact.

Happiness is what you get here. Obviously, there are bright, clean rooms as in a five-star hotel country-house hotel and very nice food. But the staff - always smiling and happy to do whatever needs. It's a sign of superior management when the staff are stable and motivated, and that's what the manager brings to Barchester Ritson Lodge. My husband is comfortable and we are both happy with his care.
