I was very impressed with the facilities etc on my previous visit. Now my dad has been there for a month he is a changed person.
He looks happier, has a better colour to his face and has gained weight because he is being fed properly. The staff also are encouraging him to walk more, which is good,
especially as he is 96 years old.

I had two parents in the home, unfortunately, one passed away recently. What has struck me is the friendliness, efficiency, kindness and compassion that is shown by all staff to both myself and my parents. Nothing is too much trouble and the management of the home's willingness and hard work to quickly
accommodate my two parents, one of which was terminally ill, is something I have rarely come across. The old saying is 'going the extra mile' has never been more applicable to everyone at the home. It gives me complete peace of mind, that my remaining parent is being looked after so well. I cannot give enough praise for what is going on at the home.

My mother took a while to settle in as she was quite poorly and disorientated but things soon improved as she got to know the staff and her new surroundings.
The staff soon got to know who we are and are very welcoming.

We are so pleased how my father is being cared for physically as well as mentally. Nothing is too much trouble, it is a home from home and we feel welcome to visit anytime. Immaculately clean and the food and menus are superb.
We know the carers by name and they are all very friendly.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Although my husband was only in Chiltern Grange for 1 week I was very impressed. He had a sunny room which gave him the peace he had not had whilst in hospital. The nursing staff were very kind and caring. The kitchen was available for visitors to make drinks for themselves, which for me was very important.
The lounges on each floor were comfortable and inviting. The activities for residents appeared interesting but unfortunately, my husband was not able to join in. He died on January 26th and I received great compassion from everyone. The manager was very helpful. I was so grateful that his last week of life was made so comfortable.
Reply from Rhonda Herring, Home Manager at Chiltern Grange Care HomeThank you for such kind words - my team work hard to make sure everyone at Chiltern Grange receives the very best care and we are glad to have been able to care for your husband.

Warm wishes.

Chiltern Grange was the ideal place for a respite stay. The staff are friendly, welcoming and always happy to help. The room was spacious with a lovely garden view. The home and surrounding grounds are beautifully maintained. There was a range of activities for all abilities. The food was excellent
and our mother was able to gain some much-needed strength and confidence. Her stay was a crucial turning point and we are so grateful to all involved.

My 94-year-old resident experienced the first four years of life at Chiltern Grange Care Home. Standards during this time were far from satisfactory. - 9 managers of poor management ability. Lack of activities, often poor food standards. Porthaven still saw fit to apply annual fee increases.
Since
the current manager was appointed the home has been transformed, maintaining consistency and continuity of capable staff. There is a happy atmosphere and the staff generally have a very caring attitude.

For the time being, I use this care home for my respite only. I am planning for 3, 2 week periods providing things stay as they are, however, if things go downhill, I will hope to place my wife here on a full-time basis. I am very happy with all aspects of the care home.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.947)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.947) out of 10 for Chiltern Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.947 for Chiltern Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (407 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 430 Ratings = 4.947
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chiltern Grange Care Home is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Client Services Manager Joined: 2023

Hello, my name is Jackie Chicken, and I am the Client Services Manager here at Chiltern Grange.

Having previously worked in the retirement sector for four years, I was delighted to make the move into the care sector in 2022. My previous career was spent in the luxury travel industry, so delivering excellent customer service has always been high on my agenda.

Porthaven has a wonderful reputation in terms of quality of care and beautiful design, so I feel very privileged to work for one of the best care providers in the country. My role at Chiltern Grange means I am the first point of contact for families starting out on that journey to find the best fit in terms of a caring environment for their loved ones. I love the fact that we provide person-centred care, and I really enjoy showcasing the wonderful facilities, newly refurbished spaces and exceptional staff we are fortunate enough to have here at Chiltern Grange.

Outside of work, you can find me as a chaperone in the wings of a theatre supporting my daughter or cheering my son on from the side of a rugby pitch!
