My mother was not keen to go into a home but was persuaded to for respite care while I and my husband went on holiday. On the first visit to her after the holiday, she was more alert and happy to stay at the home for a little longer and three weeks later did not want to go home at all. She always tells
me how kind the staff are and how she can talk to the staff about her worries or fears. This is a great relief to me as her dementia has got a lot worse over the last year, and I was finding it difficult to converse with her over matters that may be worrying her. She also has much more contact with people of her own age and likes going to meals with them and taking part in activities. Thanks must go to the staff for making my mother so welcome, and also for making me feel that I made the right decision.

Our parent's moved to Chiltern Grange a few weeks into lockdown, so our father could receive the support and care he needed in the final months of his life, and our mother, who has moderate dementia, could also be cared for and as safe as our father's ability to support her waned. This was a huge change
for both of them and brought with it difficulties, fear and stress compounded by their medical needs and the reality of a terminal illness. Throughout it, the staff have been supportive, professional and above all caring helping Mum and Dad through this very difficult period as well as kindly and flexibly supporting us, their close family, at a time when visiting and contact was difficult.
Aware of our father's prognosis, we viewed various care homes in the area, before any of us could know the added strains COVID 19 would throw at us - Chiltern Grange was our preferred home for a simple reason - the staff care and therefore you trust them to do their best. Thank you.

Chiltern Grange came highly recommended by a friend and I'm happy to say that all my expectations have been met. The standard of care has been exceptional. Chiltern Grange is an excellent care home that creates a friendly and welcoming environment. All the staff are excellent; very professional, courteous and have empathy for the residents they care for. The home provides a relaxing, calming and comfortable place to live. The communication between the
care home and residents’ relatives is second to none, with weekly in-depth updates. Porthaven’s and Chiltern Grange’s reaction to the COVID challenge has been superb, with well thought through measures and regular communication with both residents and relatives; very impressive. It’s a pleasure to visit the home and comforting to know that my father is receiving excellent care and support.

My father moved into Chiltern Grange Care Home a week before lockdown and what could have been a very difficult and unsettling time for him, was, in fact, the best thing that happened to him. He was helped to settle in and meet everyone. All the staff are absolutely amazing and I cannot sing their
praises highly enough. They not only physically care but also give emotional support. He is quite a shy person but there are plenty of activities arranged, which he is encouraged to participate in and certainly will always attend the singing on a Friday afternoon and the games of draughts. He has just celebrated his 95th birthday and had a lovely cake made for him - this made his day. Thank you very much to all staff at Chiltern Grange Care Home and please carry on as you have been doing.

Mum moved into the care home mid-March after a long stay in hospital. From the assessment stage in hospital to her arrival at the home, Mum was treated with great respect and dignity. She was asked about her preferences and was listened to. All the staff went out of their way to help Mum settle into
her new home.
The room is lovely and being able to add personal touches too has been a great help to Mum.
All her visitors comment on how lovely the home is and how beautiful the gardens are. They have been made extremely welcome by all the staff.
It has been a great comfort to all the family to know that Mum is safe and being well cared for. During this difficult period, we have been kept up to date about the home and Mum by the staff. We have been able to take advantage of Skype to talk to and see Mum.
The management and all the staff have done their best in extremely difficult times to maintain the very high standards offered at this home.

My mother was admitted at the start of the lockdown in March. We went with our gut feelings established on a brief visit (we could not go beyond reception) and two very welcoming and reassuring meetings in reception.
Some of the responses to the presented options below have been difficult to make as
we have no practical experience. Mum returned home yesterday and was full of praise for her experience over the past three months... she felt safe and cared for, there is nothing more we could have asked during this time.
Where responses are satisfactory they are based on no experience as we were never allowed beyond the reception.

Mum entered Chiltern Grange for respite care in early February. Mum has Alzheimer's and almost immediately, there was a significant and positive improvement to her mood, desire to socialise, eating and general wellbeing. It was such a relief to see her happier than she had been in a long time; being
continuously entertained and properly looked after. Two weeks rolled to four and onwards, to the maximum of eight weeks, at which point the global pandemic had taken hold and moving her back to independent living was clearly not an option. Chiltern Grange were so supportive at every step of the way and were able to accommodate her permanently. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming, always aware of how Mum is and it really feels like they've got to know her well in a very short space of time. The consistency of the staffing team is very reassuring, particularly during the Coronavirus situation and we Skype with her every Sunday. I feel grateful, every day, that we found Chiltern Grange.

My Mum loves Chiltern Grange and regularly tells me that we made the right choice of care home for her. The premises have the feel of a quality hotel and everything has been thoughtfully designed, from the memory displays outside each room (nicely lit display cabinets rather than simple pinboards) to
the outside balcony on the first floor overlooking the garden and local countryside. The staff are very helpful and friendly and have been very responsive during the Coronavirus outbreak such as by pro-actively organising video calls between guests and relatives to ensure they aren't let feeling too isolated during the lockdown. I agree with my mum, I think we definitely made the right choice!

Our mother became a resident in January 2020. Chiltern Grange Care Home was chosen by us for its lovely facilities and activities programme. From the outset, the staff have shown themselves to be professional, caring and fun. Since January we have not been disappointed. Mum has gone from being lonely
and unhappy to the exact opposite and she cannot praise more the staff and care she receives. As a family, we feel mum has all her needs met and at the same feel secure in the knowledge she is well looked after and safe.

My father has been at Chiltern Grange since January, after making a difficult decision to leave the family home. He has been made so welcome by everyone, making this move a great deal easier. The staff have all been wonderful, offering him so much support, and loving care, while ensuring his independence
is still maintained.
Nothing is ever too much trouble for them.


He now enjoys his new life, spending his days being well looked after with superb nutritious meals, and many hours in the beautiful garden with the staff, and his lovely new friends. It is such a relief now to know that he is safe and well, especially during these difficult times.


I would highly recommend Chiltern Grange to anyone, as the care and compassion from all the staff - is outstanding.

There had been some areas of Chiltern Grange that needed improvement to ensure value for money. The arrival of a new locum manager in January has already seen some areas working better, for the sake of new residents and current, I hope that the lady stays. The carers are excellent and residents treated
with utmost care and dignity. However, a more comprehensive activities programme is needed, and better care and attention made to smaller details.

Love is most definitely at the focus of everyone who works at Chilton Grange. In 4 and a quarter years at any time of day or night I never once saw any member of staff treat residents without respect, politeness and sensitivity.
My mother was at home here, her room was comfortable, personal, warm,
clean and always smelled fresh including the en suite. The entire establishment felt like home. The food was varied, restaurant standard and tailored to individual diets. I cannot fault any staff, Mum felt at home.

I spent three weeks on the nursing floor after transferring from hospital. During this time of recovery, I was truly amazed at the kindness and compassion of all the staff. They were so lovely.
I did feel at times that the workload was greater than the staffing levels, particularly with the qualified
nursing staff, that said, I cannot speak highly enough of all the teams involved in my care both on the nursing floor and on the respite care floor. Thank you so much.

My husband went to Chiltern Grange for two week's respite care - this was the first time he had been away from home and my 24-hour care. I was very anxious about how he would react but I need not have worried. He was given a lovely welcome and made comfortable in his pleasant room. The overall standard
of the care home is excellent; it is very clean, and the facilities are very good. The staff are very kind and helpful and treated my husband with dignity and looked after him very well. The catering is of high quality and he ate very well. In the afternoons there were often activities going on and they organise singers etc on a regular basis. When I collected my husband, the staff were very helpful. All his clothes were laundered and everything was smelling very fresh, so I welcomed not having to get home to do a lot of washing! I was very impressed with the care home and my husband will definitely return when I need my next break. The cost is rather high though!

My husband has acute Alzheimers and cannot walk or stand unaided. The staff who attended him were so very kind and helpful and they really cared about the resident and what they were doing. Whenever I visited there was always three or four staff sitting with the residents looking to see if they were
comfotable or just talking with them. The atmosphere in the home was one of fun, comfort and homeliness and I would recommend Chiltern Grange to anyone.

Dad has late age onset dementia, yet he currently resides on the 'assisted living' floor. Either myself, my wife, or both of us visit at least once a week. Despite his memory issues, he is ALWAYS relaxed, happy, comfortable, well-groomed and well-fed! The staff clearly understand the foibles of each
resident and deal with every eventuality tactfully and always with a gentle smile.

My mother has settled into Chiltern Grange Care Home well thanks to all the caring and loving staff. She is happy and well cared for and there is always a welcoming community atmosphere. There is a full programme of activities and mum has enjoyed short outings particularly to the local garden nursery.
They have an excellent chef who has been so good catering for my mums needs as she requires a gluten free diet. The staff have all been so supportive not just to my mum but to us all as a family.

Hello, my name is Jackie Chicken, and I am the Client Services Manager here at Chiltern Grange.


Having previously worked in the retirement sector for four years, I was delighted to make the move into the care sector in 2022. My previous career was spent in the luxury travel industry, so delivering excellent customer service has always been high on my agenda.


Porthaven has a wonderful reputation in terms of quality of care and beautiful design, so I feel very privileged to work for one of the best care providers in the country. My role at Chiltern Grange means I am the first point of contact for families starting out on that journey to find the best fit in terms of a caring environment for their loved ones. I love the fact that we provide person-centred care, and I really enjoy showcasing the wonderful facilities, newly refurbished spaces and exceptional staff we are fortunate enough to have here at Chiltern Grange.


Outside of work, you can find me as a chaperone in the wings of a theatre supporting my daughter or cheering my son on from the side of a rugby pitch!
