The staff were wonderful and looked after my mother very well when she was in for a month's respite care. Her room was nice and spacious, with a good view of the garden, and she was happy there. I would recommend it to anyone.

My Dad, at weeks away from reaching 100 years old, is relatively happy. Cannot fault the staff with their dedication, care, compassion and support. The room my Dad is in is quite nice and overlooks the garden. The bed is extremely comfortable apparently! The dining room is lovely, clean and inviting.
Portion sizes don't seem to cater to the individual though. One size fits all regardless of appetite. Also at times (for my Dad) the choices are far "too modern" for his taste. The cooked breakfast is good and eaten most days though. All in all, fairly content.

Mum moved into Chiltern Grange Care Home a few years back, just when Covid and lockdown started in the UK. She was always happy there and well looked after. The clinical team were kind and compassionate and the carers helping her on a daily basis are very supportive of her needs. All team members contributed
in some way to make her stay enjoyable and ensure she felt at home. She has only just left to move to a sister care home, still in the Porthaven Care Homes group, to live closer to me. I would thoroughly recommend the group and the services at Chiltern Grange. Thank you to the whole team, as we appreciate many people work behind the scenes, who make considerable contributions to the residents' care, not just those staff who the visitors meet.
Reply from Jemimah Guinto, Home Manager at Chiltern Grange Care HomeThank you so much for your glowing review. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time with your mum. I'll ensure I share the wonderful comments about the kind and compassionate staff and how all of the team members contributed in some way to make her stay enjoyable and ensure she felt at home. They will be delighted!!

On arrival, I was needing a great deal of help, and this was available immediately. I felt cared for and safe in my surrounding and so comfortable as I was so impressed. I began to wish my husband could become a resident here in comparison to the care home he is residing at.

Mum has been at Chiltern Grange Care Home since March 2020. All the staff, whatever their duties, are always very helpful and polite despite the behaviour of residents that can sometimes be challenging. The home is spacious, clean, has a nice garden and lovely food. Residents are encouraged to join
in activities where possible but the carers accept that residents also want some time alone. Unfortunately, during 2022, several members of staff left and there was a period when the home was short-staffed. This appears to have been resolved and, hopefully, the staff will remain in place as familiar faces are important to the residents.

The care home has been home for my mother for over five years and it feels like home. The staff are very good, especially the first-floor manager. The building is well maintained and the domestic staff are also very caring. I cannot imagine my mother being anywhere else.

It is incredibly hard letting someone else look after your loved parent but the staff at Chiltern Grange Care Home made that transition a much more pleasant experience than we expected. The staff are caring and helpful and our precious mother is well looked after and cared for. I am unable to visit
as often as I would like but thank you to all of you.

My mother has been at Chiltern Grange Care Home for nearly three years with dementia. The care and love the staff give to my mother and all the patients is second to none. Mum is so well cared for and if there are any issues, they contact either my brother or I straight away. The home is spotlessly
clean, light, airy, very friendly and with activities every day for the residents to enjoy. If it was for me, this is where I would wish to be.

Our experience has been excellent. The whole family has been made welcome when visiting my mother who has been a resident for post-hip op convalescence. The care given to my mother has been thoughtful, attentive and professional. Every member of staff has made a point of getting to know us as a family
and making my mother feel at home.

We just wanted to express our gratitude to you all for the outstanding care you gave our mum while she was with you. We really couldn't have asked for better from you or from the exceptional facilities with its welcoming, caring environment that you've nurtured. We are all so appreciative of the diligence,
patience and compassion shown by everyone which made Mum feel safe and looked after. Nothing was ever too much trouble; we're particularly thankful for the unfailing kindness, thoughtfulness and sensitivity with which one member of staff showed us and to Mum, especially when dealing with her most difficult treatments. It was a great reassurance to us and a great comfort to her, knowing that she was in the best of care.

Thank you for the welcome card, flowers and chocolate! I was pleasantly surprised when shown to my room, it was so bright with windows and a door to the garden. I spent a lot of time by the windows reading and bird watching - so many! However, I was disappointed that the residents on the whole did not
encourage me to join in the activities! Note to me: another time take knitting or a puzzle!

My father has been a resident at Chiltern Grange Care Home for over four years and I am very happy with the care he is receiving. The nurses always contact me if there are any concerns about his health and he is treated with dignity and respect and care. The carers encourage him to have his meals in
the dining room but respect his wishes if he prefers to eat in his room. He is provided with alternative meals (cheese and biscuits) if he doesn't like the main meals offered.

Overall as a family, we are happy, however, at times the ratio of staff to residents is very low - i.e. when collecting clothes are often unappropriated, damaged, mismatched and dirty, on occasion our relative has not been showered. They have also lost a noticeable amount of weight, we are aware that
this is typical for a dementia patient but feel if carers had time they could monitor volumes.
Reply from Sue Astill, Regional Director at Chiltern Grange Care HomeDear David,
Thank you for taking the time to complete the review; I'm pleased to hear that overall as a family you are happy.
I genuinely appreciate your feedback and thank you for highlighting the areas of improvement. The care and well-being of every resident is our number one priority. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss this further.
Kind Regards
Sue

After the trauma of surgery, it was lovely to be greeted so warmly on arrival for my two-week convalescence. I found all the staff so very caring and helpful in all areas, nothing was too much trouble. Getting to know the residents, I heard nothing but praise and contentment for the home staff, including
those serving food etc. The food was tasty and well presented. If it became necessary I would return here.

Yes, you helped my mother very well at a very awkward time. In particular, I found you bureaucratically efficient and it was always easy to keep in touch. The ambience was quiet and there was very little sign of flurry. The leading carers were most efficient. Medical backup from the Stokenchurch was
pretty good too. Quite strong efforts were made on the activities front, although inevitably you had difficulties adjusting to my mother's tastes and interests.

I was so worried about putting my father in care but after my first visit I felt at ease. The staff are so kind and caring. I visited many care homes and this is by far the best. There are no unwanted smells here and it is bright and friendly. As soon as you enter here all your worries melt away. The
way to describe it is like being in a hotel - or a very upmarket hotel.

My father-in-law spent five weeks in Chiltern Grange Care Home for respite care following a nasty fall. Staff treated him with the utmost care and compassion throughout his stay and were always respectful of his wants and needs. Food was of good quality and my husband and I were kept informed of his
general health and wellbeing and of doctor’s appointments and test results. Staff were genuinely caring and very kind to him. Would not hesitate to recommend Chiltern Grange.

When Mum was diagnosed with dementia it was a scary, confusing and stressful time for us. My first contact with Chiltern Grange Care Home instantly made me feel more confident in the next steps we had to take for Mum’s safety, security and health. They explained everything and took a personal approach
from the outset. Mum was well looked after at Chiltern Grange and I met many of the care staff from the memory floor, they were all very nice and I felt Mum was happy there. The facilities are excellent, beautiful gardens, common areas and restaurants which make it feel like a nice hotel.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.944)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.944) out of 10 for Chiltern Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.944 for Chiltern Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (452 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 478 Ratings = 4.944
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chiltern Grange Care Home is based on 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 40 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Client Services Manager Joined: 2023

Hello, my name is Jackie Chicken, and I am the Client Services Manager here at Chiltern Grange.

Having previously worked in the retirement sector for four years, I was delighted to make the move into the care sector in 2022. My previous career was spent in the luxury travel industry, so delivering excellent customer service has always been high on my agenda.

Porthaven has a wonderful reputation in terms of quality of care and beautiful design, so I feel very privileged to work for one of the best care providers in the country. My role at Chiltern Grange means I am the first point of contact for families starting out on that journey to find the best fit in terms of a caring environment for their loved ones. I love the fact that we provide person-centred care, and I really enjoy showcasing the wonderful facilities, newly refurbished spaces and exceptional staff we are fortunate enough to have here at Chiltern Grange.

Outside of work, you can find me as a chaperone in the wings of a theatre supporting my daughter or cheering my son on from the side of a rugby pitch!
