I was made to feel welcome and well cared for from the moment of arrival. House and gardens are immaculately kept. Staff were cheerful and friendly. There was an extensive programme of activities, but no compulsion to join in. Menus were available for choice to be made of next days meals, but the system
occasionally stuttered, and breakfast in particular was sometimes a slightly disorganised event. Quality of ingredients was good, cooking variable. Overall standard of care was first rate.

Hartwood House provided my father with exceptional care. From the first day we visited he was treated with the utmost respect and warmth. He moved in as an honoured guest but swiftly was made to feel one of the family. The tenderness and kindness shown not only to him but to the rest of our family has
been wonderful and made what we all knew was a limited time very special, helping us and our children, who were always made to feel so welcome, build precious memories or our dad/grandpa. We cannot praise all of the staff highly enough and will be eternally grateful to them all.

My husband has been in Hartwood House on several occasions for respite care. On the last visit he was in the nursing wing. He was exceptionally well cared for by friendly professional staff who anticipated his needs and carried out the nursing aspects of his care to the letter. I was able to leave him
knowing that he would be safe. I rate the home very highly.

This care home in my opinion is excellent. Superbly furnished and providing every comfort for the residents and visitors. The staff are friendly and caring and the standard of cleanliness is five star! Another friend of mine who resided there for several months tells me that the food is excellent.

My mother is 86 with Alzheimers. My father 91 has had to go into hospital so currently can not care for my mother. We tried 24 hour care at home but my mother was very aggressive and within 24 hours she was at Hartwood House for two weeks respite care which we hope to expand, probably to 2 - 3 months
maybe longer. For the first week my mother had a difficult time because of her anger and confusion, however the calm and secure feeling at Hartwood House and in particular the experience and care of the staff has helped her settle and today although wanting to go home said id she could not go home then she as happy there.

Wonderful! After initial apprehensiveness from her family as to "were we doing the right thing" we haven't looked back. She has completely flourished since her arrival and now has a new family and home - a proper home and not somewhere where she's been "left". Staff are lovely and always very attentive,
friendly and caring, food is superb and there is a small kitchenette where teas and coffees can be made, lots of open space and there is always something going on with regards to entertainment and socialising. We made the right decision and definitely into the right home.

As a visitor I have only seen a small part of the home. Well provided sitting and dining areas. Attractive grounds but possibly not accessible t less able residents. Pleasant residents own room. I have not ever had a meal at the home but understand meals are good.

My mother initially spent two weeks of respite at Hartwood House in March 2015. She was so happy and comfortable after the first week that she decided she would like to become a permanent resident. Fortunately there was a vacancy. Mother was able to keep the same room and she never returned to her
own house. She feels secure and cared for and each time I see her she tells me she could not be happier because all the staff are lovely and always kind to her and the food is wonderful. She has company when she wants it with the option of the privacy of her own room. My sister and her husband live locally and are able to call in and see Mother at any time. As members of the Relatives Committee they regularly meet the Registered Manager and her staff, all of whom show the kindness, patience and respect for individual needs which make Hartwood such a happy place to be for a 96 year-old. Visitors (including pets by arrangement) are welcomed and the Manager goes out of her way to be friendly and helpful to relatives or visitors. She knows each resident personally which is very reassuring. Mother had one particularly delicate problem recently and it was resolved quickly and sensitively by the Manager and my sister working together.

Hartwood House has its own special atmosphere. The building is bright, warm and spotlessly clean with books and pictures providing interest and stimulation. Lounge areas are quiet, beautifully furnished and designed with an emphasis on natural daylight. Mother has outings, escorted visits to local shops and communal singing sessions led by a professional musician. Her own room is comfortable with a pleasant view over the garden and there is ample space to display the many family photographs that mean so much to her.

My Mum just loves her life. She is in a place that she could never have imagined in earlier years and we are most grateful to everyone at Hartwood House for the exceptional care they provide.

I visited Gran today (Friday), and was once again reminded what a great place Hartwood is. She cannot stop singing its praises and it is well deserved.

While the home itself is amazingly well equipped and a lovely premises, it is the staff that make it what it is. Whether we visit with our dog or

young daughter in tow the attitude and manner of the staff is always lovely. They clearly care so much about their residents and are so welcoming of visitors of all shapes and sizes that it is always a pleasure to pop in.

Thank you all so much for everything you do for my Gran and all the other residents, you do a hugely important job and you do it fantastically.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.910)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.910) out of 10 for Hartwood House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 75 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 74 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.910 for Hartwood House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (826 Excellents x 5) + (53 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 890 Ratings = 4.91
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartwood House Care Home is based on 74 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

    The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 74 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Homes Admissions Advisor Joined: 2024

What I Do:
My role here at Hartwood House is to provide support to anyone enquiring about moving into care and the options that are available to them. As Admissions Advisor at Hartwood House, no two days are ever the same — and that’s exactly what I love about my role. From welcoming families for their first visit, to guiding them through the enquiry process and helping them make informed decisions, I am here to ensure every interaction feels personal, supportive and reassuring.

My Experience:
With five years’ experience in the care sector, I truly feel I have found my calling. Supporting families at what can often be an emotional and uncertain time is something I consider both a responsibility and a privilege.

Before moving into care, I worked in hospitality, where I developed a genuine passion for working with people and delivering exceptional service. That background has shaped my approach — I believe families should feel listened to, valued and completely at ease from their very first conversation with us.

For me, this role is about more than admissions; it’s about building trust, creating relationships and helping families feel confident that Hartwood House is the right place for their loved one.

What I do;
As Activities Lead here at Hartwood House, my role is to ensure that activities are not only varied and enjoyable, but truly person-centred. From creative sessions and gentle exercise, to community visits and special events, my goal is to make every day stimulating and fulfilling.

My experience;
I have worked in the care sector for over 10 years, beginning my journey as a Healthcare Assistant within a nursing home setting. During that time, I supported individuals living with dementia and complex mental health conditions, gaining invaluable experience in delivering compassionate care.

Care has always been more than just a job to me. I truly believe that being able to make a positive difference in someone’s life, no matter how small the moment may seem, is a privilege in itself. Whether through support, companionship, or simply bringing a smile to someone’s face, I feel incredibly fortunate to work in a role where kindness and impact go hand in hand.

About me;
I spend most of my weekends at wedding venues as a bridal makeup artist – I love makeup and art, to me it is a form of self-expression. In my free time, I love spending time with friends and family.
