The staff at Hartwood House were first class when my Brother-in-law was taken there for the last week of his life. His wife, son, my husband, my daughter and myself spent nearly two days sitting at his bedside and we had excellent treatment. Nothing was too much trouble.

The atmosphere in Hartwood House is warm and welcoming. The staff at all levels are helpful and cheerful and kind. My friend does not take part in activities for health reasons. I have on occasions asked for help, when my friend needed to be made more comfortable - this wasn't a problem and was not 'rushed' in any way. Whilst my friend does not recognise me, she obviously recognised the voice of the carers - was obviously grateful.

From the moment we first arrived at Hartwood House, we were made to feel very welcome. The staff including the manager, all the carers and even the chef made us feel very at home. A very special thank you to the nursing and care team who worked through the night, they took as much care of us as they did my very poorly uncle, which endless cups of tea and words of support. I couldn't have wished for him to spend his final days anywhere more perfect. Thank you all.

I was moved from hospital to Hartwood House care home Lyndhurst. This was one month in the general and two months here. My situation changed for the better. The conditions and staff were excellent. This made the difference to me. I will shortly be going home. Looking forward to the changes. Hoping that carers will be equivalent to here. I cannot express enough for the condition here at Hartwood, cannot be bettered in any direction.

My aunt has received excellent care following a partial hip replacement. She was confined mainly to her room for a couple of weeks as she recovered from her operation but its good to see her back in the communal area, sitting in the chair. Even though she has Alzheimers my aunt has improved physically with the help of the dedicated staff.

I visited a friend's mother who was having respite care for two weeks. I was amazed at the wonderful welcome and the entertainment that was taking place for the residents. A pianist was playing all the old favourite songs and the carers were encouraging the ladies to dance gently whilst they hold hands. Even my 95-year-old had a dance with me! The home is beautifully furnished (no wing chairs) and it did not have a "camouflage" perfume as it was so clean and bright! I would be very happy to live there !!

Today myself, my wife and our two children visited my gran in Hartwood House for the first time while visiting from Australia. It's fair to say it exceeded all our expectations! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive and we could see that gran was truly happy. It was so peaceful, spacious and well designed. All the rooms had views of the lovely gardens, which are immaculately maintained. There are a number of nice lounge areas and library is stocked full of interesting books.

The food and accommodation is more like a 5-star hotel than a retirement home, and the rooms are full of natural light.

We left in the knowledge that gran is happy and incredibly well looked after. Thanks to all the staff at Hartwood House for everything you do for her.

My wife and I visited a patient suffering terminal cancer on a number of occasions between March and June 2016. We were much impressed by the nursing care given to our friend and by the ambiance of the care home. The staff seemed very kind and considerate and made our friend's last months a time of peace and, given the circumstances, one that was as trouble-free and pain-free as possible. This meant he could receive friends and family in the best possible state.

I was made to feel welcome and well cared for from the moment of arrival. House and gardens are immaculately kept. Staff were cheerful and friendly. There was an extensive programme of activities, but no compulsion to join in. Menus were available for choice to be made of next days meals, but the system occasionally stuttered, and breakfast in particular was sometimes a slightly disorganised event. Quality of ingredients was good, cooking variable. Overall standard of care was first rate.

Hartwood House provided my father with exceptional care. From the first day we visited he was treated with the utmost respect and warmth. He moved in as an honoured guest but swiftly was made to feel one of the family. The tenderness and kindness shown not only to him but to the rest of our family has been wonderful and made what we all knew was a limited time very special, helping us and our children, who were always made to feel so welcome, build precious memories or our dad/grandpa. We cannot praise all of the staff highly enough and will be eternally grateful to them all.

My husband has been in Hartwood House on several occasions for respite care. On the last visit he was in the nursing wing. He was exceptionally well cared for by friendly professional staff who anticipated his needs and carried out the nursing aspects of his care to the letter. I was able to leave him knowing that he would be safe. I rate the home very highly.

My mother is 86 with Alzheimers. My father 91 has had to go into hospital so currently can not care for my mother. We tried 24 hour care at home but my mother was very aggressive and within 24 hours she was at Hartwood House for two weeks respite care which we hope to expand, probably to 2 - 3 months maybe longer. For the first week my mother had a difficult time because of her anger and confusion, however the calm and secure feeling at Hartwood House and in particular the experience and care of the staff has helped her settle and today although wanting to go home said id she could not go home then she as happy there.

Wonderful! After initial apprehensiveness from her family as to "were we doing the right thing" we haven't looked back. She has completely flourished since her arrival and now has a new family and home - a proper home and not somewhere where she's been "left". Staff are lovely and always very attentive, friendly and caring, food is superb and there is a small kitchenette where teas and coffees can be made, lots of open space and there is always something going on with regards to entertainment and socialising. We made the right decision and definitely into the right home.

My mother initially spent two weeks of respite at Hartwood House in March 2015. She was so happy and comfortable after the first week that she decided she would like to become a permanent resident. Fortunately there was a vacancy. Mother was able to keep the same room and she never returned to her own house. She feels secure and cared for and each time I see her she tells me she could not be happier because all the staff are lovely and always kind to her and the food is wonderful. She has company when she wants it with the option of the privacy of her own room. My sister and her husband live locally and are able to call in and see Mother at any time. As members of the Relatives Committee they regularly meet the Registered Manager and her staff, all of whom show the kindness, patience and respect for individual needs which make Hartwood such a happy place to be for a 96 year-old. Visitors (including pets by arrangement) are welcomed and the Manager goes out of her way to be friendly and helpful to relatives or visitors. She knows each resident personally which is very reassuring. Mother had one particularly delicate problem recently and it was resolved quickly and sensitively by the Manager and my sister working together.

Hartwood House has its own special atmosphere. The building is bright, warm and spotlessly clean with books and pictures providing interest and stimulation. Lounge areas are quiet, beautifully furnished and designed with an emphasis on natural daylight. Mother has outings, escorted visits to local shops and communal singing sessions led by a professional musician. Her own room is comfortable with a pleasant view over the garden and there is ample space to display the many family photographs that mean so much to her.

My Mum just loves her life. She is in a place that she could never have imagined in earlier years and we are most grateful to everyone at Hartwood House for the exceptional care they provide.

I visited Gran today (Friday), and was once again reminded what a great place Hartwood is. She cannot stop singing its praises and it is well deserved.

While the home itself is amazingly well equipped and a lovely premises, it is the staff that make it what it is. Whether we visit with our dog or young daughter in tow the attitude and manner of the staff is always lovely. They clearly care so much about their residents and are so welcoming of visitors of all shapes and sizes that it is always a pleasure to pop in.

Thank you all so much for everything you do for my Gran and all the other residents, you do a hugely important job and you do it fantastically.

What I Do
As Deputy Manager at Hartwood House, I help lead the day-to-day operations of the home, working alongside residents, their loved ones, and our dedicated team to create a warm, supportive, and caring environment. I am committed to ensuring that every resident receives high-quality, individualised care that promotes independence, wellbeing, and dignity.

My role includes supporting and developing staff, monitoring the quality of care provided, and helping to maintain the highest standards across the home. By fostering a culture of compassion, respect, and teamwork, I strive to ensure that Hartwood House remains a place where residents feel safe, valued, and truly at home.

My Experience
I began my professional career working for a global investment bank, where I developed strong organisational, leadership, and people management skills. After having my two boys, I took the opportunity to reflect on what I truly wanted from my career and decided it was the right time to pursue my long-standing passion for working in care.

I started my journey in the care sector as a Care Assistant, gaining invaluable hands-on experience supporting residents and their families. Driven by a desire to make a positive difference, I progressed into a Care Coordinator role before being promoted to Deputy Manager. Each step of my career has strengthened my commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care and supporting teams to provide the best possible experience for those we care for.

About Me
I am incredibly proud to be a mum to my two wonderful sons, who are at the heart of everything I do. Family is very important to me, and I love spending quality time with them whenever I can.

Outside of work, my greatest passion is travelling. I enjoy exploring new places, experiencing different cultures, and creating lasting memories with family and friends. In fact, I almost always have my next holiday planned, as having something exciting to look forward to is something I really enjoy. Travelling helps me recharge, gain new perspectives, and bring positivity and enthusiasm into both my personal and professional life.

What I Do:

My role here at Hartwood House is to provide support to anyone enquiring about moving into care and the options that are available to them. As Admissions Advisor at Hartwood House, no two days are ever the same — and that’s exactly what I love about my role. From welcoming families for their first visit, to guiding them through the enquiry process and helping them make informed decisions, I am here to ensure every interaction feels personal, supportive and reassuring.

My Experience:

With five years’ experience in the care sector, I truly feel I have found my calling. Supporting families at what can often be an emotional and uncertain time is something I consider both a responsibility and a privilege.

Before moving into care, I worked in hospitality, where I developed a genuine passion for working with people and delivering exceptional service. That background has shaped my approach — I believe families should feel listened to, valued and completely at ease from their very first conversation with us.

For me, this role is about more than admissions; it’s about building trust, creating relationships and helping families feel confident that Hartwood House is the right place for their loved one.

What I do:

As an Activities and Wellbeing Coordinator at Hartwood House, I am passionate about creating a vibrant, engaging, and person-centred environment for residents. My role focuses on enhancing quality of life through meaningful activities that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being.

I design and deliver a diverse programme tailored to individual interests, abilities, and life histories—ranging from creative arts and gentle exercise to social events and community connections. I believe that every moment matters, and I strive to ensure each resident feels valued and included.

My Experience:
I began my career in care shortly after finishing my education, starting as a Care Assistant. In this role, I discovered a passion for engaging residents beyond their daily care, particularly through activities that brought enjoyment, connection, and purpose to their day.

I began supporting the Activities Lead and quickly grew in confidence and creativity, learning how to plan and deliver inclusive, engaging programmes tailored to individual needs and interests. This experience led me to progress into the role of Activities Lead myself.

Now, I combine my care background with my passion for wellbeing to create meaningful activities that enhance residents’ quality of life, ensuring everyone feels valued, included, and supported.

About Me:

I spend most of my time out with my Friends, they are such a huge part of my life. I enjoy meeting everyone at the local pub on a Friday; this has been a tradition for many years. I have 2 beautiful cats that I adore. I absolutely love animals; I find them to be so therapeutic.

What I do;

I ensure we prepare, cook, and consistently serve delicious, nutritionally balanced food here at Hartwood House using fresh, seasonal ingredients. I’ve continued to enjoy my position for the past two and a half years, and I love working here. What keeps me keen is sharing my love for food, as I understand the importance of our residents and staff to enjoy great meals!

My experience;

I have now been a Chef for over fifteen years, working in most industries from private, fine dining to large corporate contracts, gastro pubs and outside catering environments. About me;

I love food, enjoy playing football and listening to music. My little boy keeps me busy, and my wife runs her own baby swimming business. I often take our son along to her classes.

What I do:

As Maintenance Manager at Hartwood House Care Home, I am responsible for ensuring the building, facilities, and equipment are safe, well-maintained, and fully operational at all times. I carry out regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs to create a comfortable and secure environment for both residents and staff.

My role includes overseeing health and safety compliance, managing contractors, maintaining records, and responding promptly to any maintenance issues. I also support the wider team by ensuring all systems—from heating and lighting to safety equipment—are functioning efficiently.

Above all, I take pride in helping provide a safe, homely, and welcoming environment where residents can feel comfortable and cared for every day.

My Experience:

I bring over 30 years of engineering experience from my time with BT, where I was based at Heathrow Airport. In this role, I was responsible for maintaining and supporting communication systems and cabling infrastructure, ensuring reliable and efficient service in a high-demand environment.

After relocating further south, I transitioned into the care sector, joining our sister home, Mornington Court, as a Maintenance Assistant. This role allowed me to apply my technical skills in a new setting, focusing on creating a safe and comfortable environment for residents.

I then moved to Hartwood House Care Home, where I now work as Maintenance Manager. In this role, I continue to build on my experience, overseeing all aspects of maintenance and contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the home.
