My Mum has been living at Hartwood House for a year and I have always found her carers to be nothing short of wonderful.
I feel they really do care for Mum.
The surroundings are beautiful.
There is a lovely garden, and Lyndhurst is just a wheelchair ride away for coffee!
The food looks very good
- I have eaten a curry on Halloween which was very tasty.
Our family are really happy with everything at Hartwood House.

As the daughter of a new resident, I was apprehensive about visiting Mum at the care home for the first time.
Worries about how she would settle in and whether she would feel anxious or lonely were difficult to ignore.
However from arriving at Hartwood, I was greeted by friendly, smiling reception
staff who offered to show me up to Mum's room, my concerns began to melt away.
Mum was returning from lunch with a carer and looked relaxed and content.
Her room was spotless but care had already been taken to nake it comfortable and homely with her belongings.
Spending those first few hours with Mum helped me realise what a wonderful new home she now has.
Everything is set up to give her the care and support she needs, not to mention fun and laughter too!
Reply from Lucy Lester, HAA at Hartwood House Care HomeHello and thank you for such lovely comments. Your mum has quickly become part of our Hartwood family as have you all and we look forward to welcoming you to not just your visits but also to our regular events and activities that are planned through each month. We are also looking forward to meeting the family dog!

My sister and I moved our Dad to Hartwood House when his dementia was becoming severe. He settled quickly because of the outstanding care and attention he received. The staff treated Dad with respect, warmth and understanding at all times and showed the same kindness to us as a family. They also made
Dad's last days comfortable and peaceful. I cannot praise the staff highly enough.

Mum went to Hartwood House for two and a half weeks respite care whilst I went on holiday. Although we were invited to look around when I first enquired about a room, Mum was still a bit apprehensive about going in, but she really enjoyed herself and it was a positive experience for her. The food
was excellent, as were all the staff and there was always something going on which she could participate in. We would definitely recommend Hartwood House.
Reply from Lucy Lester, HAA at Hartwood House Care HomeHi Deborah

I was very impressed. Having visited several homes in recent years, this was by far the nicest. The staff were so very nice from the receptionist to the carers. The home had a lovely ambience and the rooms are very pleasant. There are several areas for residents to sit with visitors as well as their
own rooms. The high standard of decoration and cleaning was obviously very good. My relation seems very happy and that is lovely to see. As I have said, I was very impressed with my visit to this lovely home.

We as a family have found the quality of care provided for our father is exceptional and together with the rooms, garden, food and general ambience of the home in our view could not be better.
All staff members, nurses and carers are making our father's last days as pleasant and comfortable as they
possibly can and we are very grateful for everything that is being done on his behalf.

My husband was a resident in the care of Hartwood from mid-July 2016 until the 26th of October when he died.
The care he received there was of the highest standard. He had a beautiful room/wet bathroom, it faced a patio and rockery. The food and cleanliness were excellent. The staff had regular breaks
and never tired. I was a resident myself for 3 weeks and enjoyed it. There is so much space, the lounges are lovely - it's like being in a 5-star luxury hotel! I'd happily return there if the necessity arose. I wish the manager and her staff every success.

The home is well-appointed, spacious and the resident's rooms are large and well-furnished. Staff are always welcoming and friendly. Standard of care is very good, particularly on the nursing floor. Standard of hygiene and cleanliness are very high and residents are well presented and attention is given
to their personal appearance. There are a wide range of activities to stimulate and encourage the residents which provide a range of experiences.

This has been the most amazing care home I've ever stepped into.
My mother-in-law needed respite care. She didn't want to go into the home but soon settled.
The staff and the care they gave her was so patient and understanding. You couldn't fault one single thing there.
Unlike most care homes there
were no old age smells. We would definitely recommend it to anyone that is in need.
A very first class establishment.

I write on behalf of and in conjunction with my mother who was a resident for two weeks at Hartwood House. Generally speaking, we were both very pleased with the care and attention that was given by the staff. As a daughter, I personally was not pleased with ... Firstly, on arrival, I asked to speak
with the person caring for my mother's personal care. The staff member took notice but informed me she was not available for the next couple of days but would pass on my very definite requests to the duty carer who was available the following day.

The atmosphere in Hartwood House is warm and welcoming. The staff at all levels are helpful and cheerful and kind. My friend does not take part in activities for health reasons. I have on occasions asked for help, when my friend needed to be made more comfortable - this wasn't a problem and was not
'rushed' in any way. Whilst my friend does not recognise me, she obviously recognised the voice of the carers - was obviously grateful.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.915)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.915) out of 10 for Hartwood House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 65 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 64 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.915 for Hartwood House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (722 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 773 Ratings = 4.915
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartwood House Care Home is based on 64 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 64 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

What I Do
As Deputy Manager at Hartwood House, I help lead the day-to-day operations of the home, working alongside residents, their loved ones, and our dedicated team to create a warm, supportive, and caring environment. I am committed to ensuring that every resident receives high-quality, individualised care that promotes independence, wellbeing, and dignity.

My Experience
I began my professional career working for a global investment bank, where I developed strong organisational, leadership, and people management skills. After having my two boys, I took the opportunity to reflect on what I truly wanted from my career and decided it was the right time to pursue my long-standing passion for working in care.
I started my journey in the care sector as a Care Assistant, gaining invaluable hands-on experience supporting residents and their families. Travelling helps me recharge, gain new perspectives, and bring positivity and enthusiasm into both my personal and professional life.

Job Title: Homes Admissions Advisor Joined: 2024

What I Do:
My role here at Hartwood House is to provide support to anyone enquiring about moving into care and the options that are available to them. As Admissions Advisor at Hartwood House, no two days are ever the same — and that’s exactly what I love about my role. From welcoming families for their first visit, to guiding them through the enquiry process and helping them make informed decisions, I am here to ensure every interaction feels personal, supportive and reassuring.

My Experience:
With five years’ experience in the care sector, I truly feel I have found my calling. Supporting families at what can often be an emotional and uncertain time is something I consider both a responsibility and a privilege.

Before moving into care, I worked in hospitality, where I developed a genuine passion for working with people and delivering exceptional service. That background has shaped my approach — I believe families should feel listened to, valued and completely at ease from their very first conversation with us.

For me, this role is about more than admissions; it’s about building trust, creating relationships and helping families feel confident that Hartwood House is the right place for their loved one.

What I do:
As an Activities and Wellbeing Coordinator at Hartwood House, I am passionate about creating a vibrant, engaging, and person-centred environment for residents. My role focuses on enhancing quality of life through meaningful activities that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being.

I design and deliver a diverse programme tailored to individual interests, abilities, and life histories—ranging from creative arts and gentle exercise to social events and community connections. I believe that every moment matters, and I strive to ensure each resident feels valued and included.

My Experience:
I began my career in care shortly after finishing my education, starting as a Care Assistant. In this role, I discovered a passion for engaging residents beyond their daily care, particularly through activities that brought enjoyment, connection, and purpose to their day.
I began supporting the Activities Lead and quickly grew in confidence and creativity, learning how to plan and deliver inclusive, engaging programmes tailored to individual needs and interests. This experience led me to progress into the role of Activities Lead myself.

Now, I combine my care background with my passion for wellbeing to create meaningful activities that enhance residents’ quality of life, ensuring everyone feels valued, included, and supported.

About Me:
I spend most of my time out with my Friends, they are such a huge part of my life. I enjoy meeting everyone at the local pub on a Friday; this has been a tradition for many years. I have 2 beautiful cats that I adore. I absolutely love animals; I find them to be so therapeutic.

I bring over 30 years of engineering experience from my time with BT, where I was based at Heathrow Airport. In this role, I was responsible for maintaining and supporting communication systems and cabling infrastructure, ensuring reliable and efficient service in a high-demand environment.

After relocating further south, I transitioned into the care sector, joining our sister home, Mornington Court, as a Maintenance Assistant. This role allowed me to apply my technical skills in a new setting, focusing on creating a safe and comfortable environment for residents.

I then moved to Hartwood House Care Home, where I now work as Maintenance Manager. In this role, I continue to build on my experience, overseeing all aspects of maintenance and contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the home.

About Me:
Outside of work, I’m a big sports enthusiast, with a real passion for golf—any chance I get, I’ll be out on the course. I also enjoy playing snooker in my spare time.

I’m a dedicated football fan and hold a season ticket with Fulham Football Club, rarely missing a game and always supporting the team.
