Hartwood House is a home set in its own extensive grounds and beautifully landscaped gardens.

The bespoke care home has been created through a combination of new construction and the comprehensive refurbishment of a former care home, keeping the exterior and the very best features of the original building. The result is a safe, appealing and comfortable home for its residents which fuses modern innovation and traditional pleasures.

Located in Lyndhurst, the heart of the New Forest, Hartwood House also lies within easy access of the City of Southampton and the South Coast.

A fully-trained, compassionate and caring team has created an exceptional care home equipped with spacious bedrooms with private, en-suite wet-rooms on three levels, of which one floor is a dedicated dementia community. In addition, there are ample spaces inside and out to enjoy both companionship and privacy.

It is the difference between caring at work and caring like family, between listening and truly understanding and between eating a meal and enjoying an experience. If you need help finding care, Hartwood House are determined to be the difference you need.

I have been most impressed by the friendly, professional care I have received here. All staff do their best to assist me to be myself, as far as is possible. This view would be supported by my offspring when they visit.

Everyone is lovely at Hartwood, so very kind and friendly. You feel as if you have known them for years. Hartwood is extremely clean, the decor is very modern and not like a home at all, if anything, it is like someone's house. The food looks lovely, we are looking forward to having a laugh with mum.
Mum went in very poorly but after a few days what an amazing change in her physical and mental health. Thank you, with love X.

Following a major operation, I have recently had the pleasure of staying of at Hartwood House for a short period of respite care. From my initial contact with them through to the day I left, I was impressed with the professionalism and caring nature of all the staff.

The accommodation and facilities

are first class and certainly wouldn't look out of place in a top hotel. Forget any preconceived ideas you may have about care homes, this is a well run, modern purpose-built home with excellent decor and furnishings.

Both the administration and nursing/caring staff make you and your family feel very welcome, showing a genuine interest in getting to know you. Any questions/concerns you may have are quickly addressed. The residents were full of praise for how well they are cared for and the staff all work well as a team, always pleased to help.

I wanted to recover from my operation in a restful and stress-free environment. I highly recommend a stay as it worked well for me.

My father was a resident at Hartwood House for over 2 years. The staff were very caring and quickly became dad's family. He initially joined in the activities but as he became frailer he would still enjoy watching everyone and always had a smile on his face when the live entertainment took place.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and even on his 'bad' days they encouraged him to eat and drink his favourite things, or would placate him with putting on his favourite DVD. It was a great comfort to my mother and myself that dad was in the best possible place and everyone did all they could to make him as comfortable as possible.

My Mum has been living at Hartwood House for a year and I have always found her carers to be nothing short of wonderful.
I feel they really do care for Mum.
The surroundings are beautiful.
There is a lovely garden, and Lyndhurst is just a wheelchair ride away for coffee!
The food looks very good
- I have eaten a curry on Halloween which was very tasty.
Our family are really happy with everything at Hartwood House.

As the daughter of a new resident, I was apprehensive about visiting Mum at the care home for the first time.
Worries about how she would settle in and whether she would feel anxious or lonely were difficult to ignore.
However from arriving at Hartwood, I was greeted by friendly, smiling reception
staff who offered to show me up to Mum's room, my concerns began to melt away.
Mum was returning from lunch with a carer and looked relaxed and content.
Her room was spotless but care had already been taken to nake it comfortable and homely with her belongings.
Spending those first few hours with Mum helped me realise what a wonderful new home she now has.
Everything is set up to give her the care and support she needs, not to mention fun and laughter too!
Reply from Lucy Lester, HAA at Hartwood House Care HomeHello and thank you for such lovely comments. My sister and I moved our Dad to Hartwood House when his dementia was becoming severe. He settled quickly because of the outstanding care and attention he received. The staff treated Dad with respect, warmth and understanding at all times and showed the same kindness to us as a family. They also made
Dad's last days comfortable and peaceful. I cannot praise the staff highly enough.

Mum went to Hartwood House for two and a half weeks respite care whilst I went on holiday. Although we were invited to look around when I first enquired about a room, Mum was still a bit apprehensive about going in, but she really enjoyed herself and it was a positive experience for her. The food
was excellent, as were all the staff and there was always something going on which she could participate in. We would definitely recommend Hartwood House.
Reply from Lucy Lester, HAA at Hartwood House Care HomeHi Deborah

I was very impressed. Having visited several homes in recent years, this was by far the nicest. The staff were so very nice from the receptionist to the carers. The home had a lovely ambience and the rooms are very pleasant. There are several areas for residents to sit with visitors as well as their
own rooms. The high standard of decoration and cleaning was obviously very good. My relation seems very happy and that is lovely to see. As I have said, I was very impressed with my visit to this lovely home.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.927)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.927) out of 10 for Hartwood House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 72 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 72 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.927 for Hartwood House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (797 Excellents x 5) + (53 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 854 Ratings = 4.927
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartwood House Care Home is based on 72 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

    The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 72 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

What I do;
As Deputy Manager at Hartwood House, I have the privilege of overseeing all aspects of our residents’ care and leading our dedicated care team with compassion, consistency and high standards.

My experience;
I have worked in the care sector since 2007, beginning my journey as a Care Assistant and progressing through the ranks to become Deputy Manager. What I Do:
My role here at Hartwood House is to provide support to anyone enquiring about moving into care and the options that are available to them. As Admissions Advisor at Hartwood House, no two days are ever the same — and that’s exactly what I love about my role. From welcoming families for their first visit, to guiding them through the enquiry process and helping them make informed decisions, I am here to ensure every interaction feels personal, supportive and reassuring.

My Experience:
With five years’ experience in the care sector, I truly feel I have found my calling. Supporting families at what can often be an emotional and uncertain time is something I consider both a responsibility and a privilege.

Before moving into care, I worked in hospitality, where I developed a genuine passion for working with people and delivering exceptional service. That background has shaped my approach — I believe families should feel listened to, valued and completely at ease from their very first conversation with us.

For me, this role is about more than admissions; it’s about building trust, creating relationships and helping families feel confident that Hartwood House is the right place for their loved one.

What I do;
As Activities Lead here at Hartwood House, my role is to ensure that activities are not only varied and enjoyable, but truly person-centred. I take the time to get to know each resident — their hobbies, life stories, interests and achievements — so that everything we plan feels relevant and enriching. From creative sessions and gentle exercise, to community visits and special events, my goal is to make every day stimulating and fulfilling.

My experience;
I have worked in the care sector for over 10 years, beginning my journey as a Healthcare Assistant within a nursing home setting. During that time, I supported individuals living with dementia and complex mental health conditions, gaining invaluable experience in delivering compassionate care.
Care has always been more than just a job to me. I truly believe that being able to make a positive difference in someone’s life, no matter how small the moment may seem, is a privilege in itself. Whether through support, companionship or simply bringing a smile to someone’s face, I feel incredibly fortunate to work in a role where kindness and impact go hand in hand.

About me;
I spend most of my weekends at wedding venues as a bridal makeup artist – I love makeup and art, to me it is a form of self-expression. In my free time, I love spending time with friends and family.
