Hartwood House is a home set in its own extensive grounds and beautifully landscaped gardens.

The bespoke care home has been created through a combination of new construction and the comprehensive refurbishment of a former care home, keeping the exterior and the very best features of the original building. The result is a safe, appealing and comfortable home for its residents which fuses modern innovation and traditional pleasures.

Located in Lyndhurst, the heart of the New Forest, Hartwood House also lies within easy access of the City of Southampton and the South Coast.

A fully-trained, compassionate and caring team has created an exceptional care home equipped with spacious bedrooms with private, en-suite wet-rooms on three levels, of which one floor is a dedicated dementia community. In addition, there are ample spaces inside and out to enjoy both companionship and privacy.

It is the difference between caring at work and caring like family, between listening and truly understanding and between eating a meal and enjoying an experience. If you need help finding care, Hartwood House are determined to be the difference you need.

Hartwood is an extraordinary home; care, attention to detail at every level, exceptional housekeeping, tender-hearted but strong caretakers, professionally produced delicious food, and seamless management make this so much more than we could have ever imagined. Our Mother was quick to form a deep rapport
with each and every one of the wonderful people who came in contact with her. All the residents seem incredibly at home and cared for. I cannot recommend Hartwood highly enough.

Our dad was looked after at Hartwood House for approximately 3 months. He moved there from his home town so that my sister and I could visit more frequently. From the moment he arrived, he was made to feel very welcome and valued. We as visitors along with other family members were also welcomed with
open arms. Dad was invited by staff to join in all activities which seemed to happen every day. The food was excellent with so much choice. The staff could not have been more caring, kind and entertaining. Hartwood is an amazing care home and we would recommend to anyone. Thank you.
Reply from Charlotte Dean, Home Admissions Advisor at Hartwood House Care HomeFirstly, thank you so for such an amazing review! Secondly, it was such a pleasure to have Dad with us, he bought a smile to all of our faces and we absolutely loved every minute that he was with us. We are glad to feel that as family members you were also welcomed with open arms, this is such a big thing for us here, you become part of the Hartwood family. I will pass your glowing feedback to all of the team. Thank you again!

When my family first enquired, the home admissions advisor was extremely welcoming and informative. My uncle stayed at the home on respite and thoroughly enjoyed himself. She went out of her way to communicate that my uncle had settled in quickly and was being looked after well. Thank you to the home
admissions advisor and the rest of the staff.

I could not ask for better treatment . The staff were all excellent and fully competent whatever was asked of them. Words alone can not express adequately my satisfaction of the service I received. Food was excellent in both quality and choice. A glass of wine with the meal went down very well.

Hartwood House is an absolutely marvellous care home. My husband was there for two weeks respite care whilst I was away. The staff were amazing and bent over backwards to make him feel welcome. The standards at Hartwood House are like a 4/5 star hotel, wine with lunch and a great menu for all meals.
Reply from Charlotte Dean, Home Admissions Advisor at Hartwood House Care HomeThank you so much for your wonderful review. It was our absolute pleasure to look after your Husband for those 2 weeks! It is really important for us to offer lots of choice at meal times and give the residents a restaurant experience, so thank you for that lovely feedback. As we said on his departure, he is welcome back anytime (as are you - pop in for a cup of tea soon!).

Initial introduction tour of facilities was very good and informative.
Weekend cover light on staff, we had a long wait to gain access.
Special dining was very good and the celebration for mother in laws 106th birthday was very good.
Reply from Charlotte Dean, Home Admissions Advisor at Hartwood House Care HomeThank you so much for your review. Hartwood House is such an amazing home. My nannie is so happy here and that's a testament to the high level of care that she receives and the incredible staff that work here. Every time I enter the building the people inside are happy and welcoming. The quality of life that every resident receives is
just phenomenal. Worth every penny to see Nannie thriving (and socialising again!). I cannot recommend this home anymore, thank you to all of you.

I visit my friend twice a week and I am just so pleased with everything here at Hartwood House. My friend was so worried about coming in but she calls this her new home. The staff have become her family and to see the way she has come out of her shell is inspiring. She is now eating far better than
she was before, she looks so happy and healthy and I genuinely believe this is from the outstanding care given by the staff at this home.
Reply from Charlotte Dean, Home Admissions Advisor at Hartwood House Care HomeWhat lovely words, thank you so much from all of the team here at Hartwood House. It makes us so happy to hear that she is coming out of her shell, its so hard coming into a social environment when you have been on your own for so long. We like to take the time to get to know each resident and encourage them to participate and socialise when they are ready to do so. Our chef visits also play such a huge part in us getting to know the likes and dislikes of all of our residents, this helps us to provide food that we know they will enjoy. We have all seen such a huge improvement with this particular resident and we are so happy to have her here with us.

I didn't ever want to be in a position of needing care but I must say that this experience of care make me think that I would like to come back here if I had to. The staff are very kind + the rooms very comfortable
I have also enjoyed the companionship of the residents.

or my dearest friend will bring me back to visit in the summer
love to everyone who cared for me.

My mum came in for some respite after a hospital fall. The plan was for her to come home. We had tried to get her into respite for many years but she refused. After a few weeks at Hartwood, mum made the decision that she wanted to remain here permanently! We are blown away by the incredible staff here
and the care they show everyone from each-other, the residents and visitors. Hartwood House is more than a care home - its a home!

The care I received for my Uncle was excellent, he obviously had some doubts but was made to feel welcome from the very beginning. The staff were polite and nothing was to much trouble for them. The room was clean and obvious thought had gone into the design with a themed hallway throughout. The home
is situated close to the village so convenient for residents and visitors, although this was a temporary stay I would have no doubts about making this a permanent stay if and when it would be needed.

My Dad went into Hartwood House on 2nd January 2025. He was greeted in reception by many of the staff which was lovely and welcoming. We were all shown to his room which is a lovely room overlooking the gardens. Dad asked "is this my room, wow, it's lovely". He went off to have his first lunch which
was sirloin steak and a lovely glass of red wine, what a lovely first lunch. Dad is attended to with such loving care and he appears beautifully settled in such a short space of time, under three weeks. He looks so much better now, clean clothes, freshly shaved and looking so much better in himself.

My mum has been at Hartwood House Care Home for two and a half years now. It is set in beautiful surroundings, and the home is very tastefully furnished and meticulously clean. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for all that they do. They treat mum with such genuine warmth, kindness and compassion,
and they do so with such amazing patience and good humour. I always see them smiling and laughing and they are supportive of not only mum, but us as a family too. They are an absolute credit to Cinnamon Care, and are a very talented and dedicated staff team. Not just the Carers, but all the staff who make up that team. The home is very well managed and run and any concerns we have raised have been promptly and appropriately dealt with. It is a lovely home, and I would certainly recommend it to others.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.928)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.928) out of 10 for Hartwood House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 70 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 70 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.928 for Hartwood House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (775 Excellents x 5) + (51 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 830 Ratings = 4.928
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartwood House Care Home is based on 70 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 70 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

What I Do:
I am very proud to lead our lovely, dedicated team at Hartwood House. We have a wonderful team who make a real difference to the lives of residents living at Hartwood House. We put our residents first and provide a professional, friendly and supportive environment, ensuring our residents receive the highest level of care.

My Experience:
My nursing experience has been one of my great joys in life. I completed my adult nursing, psychiatric nursing, occupational health and midwifery training in South Africa. We moved to the UK in 1999, and I worked in the hospital setting in several roles and became Director of Nursing. We moved from London to Lyndhurst in 2018, and I joined Hartwood House. I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Hartwood House. Supporting the elderly and residents with dementia has brought another joyous dimension to my nursing experience.

About Me:
I enjoy living in the forest and the outdoors. My passion is my job, and working in the care industry has brought me great joy in my life.
My husband and I enjoy the outdoors and feel very privileged to live and work in such a beautiful part of the UK. I have a son and daughter, both of whom have entered the medical world. Our son is a Dr in research, and my daughter works for a medical consultant.
I believe that person-centred care is central to our residents, to deliver excellent care. Our relationship with our residents’ families and friends is also very important to support you in all aspects of your Loved ones’ life.
