After struggling with having to make the difficult decision to move Dad into a care home, I can honestly say that I wouldn't want him anywhere else. The staff are so caring, not only did they quickly get up to speed with Dad, but they also made me and my family feel welcome at any time, allowed close family to come and dine with Dad and always kept me up to date with every change or need Dad has. The environment is like being welcomed into a top hotel, the rooms are a good size with en-suite facilities and Dad has never eaten so well. The in-house services, such as the entertainment team and occupational therapist, mean the residents are stimulated and entertained, this is complemented by personal services such as hairdressers and chiropodists that visit regularly. Given Dad's state of health and needs, he couldn't be in a better place. Thank you to all the staff who provide the excellent care.

Brilliant care, next door to the local hospital. Staff are very well trained with a business and care-led approach. My mum has had much more done for her than the last home.
They are currently looking into 1 to 1 funded nursing care for her which I did not know about.

Well done!

I visited my mum at Kendal Care Home today, along with my daughter and granddaughter.
When we arrived the residents were taking part in a baking session - making jam tarts. I visit often and today was only planning a short visit, but enjoyed a couple of hours with my daughter, granddaughter, mum, the residents, and staff.
The staff running the session were amazing with the residents. The session was lively and fun, and the team interacted with each person. They knew who needed help and who could manage. This made for an inclusive session where everyone was taking part. The residents were clearly enjoying themselves. There end result was lots of jam tarts which the team explained but be ready for tomorrow, to have with a cup of tea.
I can't praise the manager and his team highly enough. There is always a buzz at Kendal Care Home and visiting is a pleasure.

Well done to the best team at the best care home! Keep up the amazing work you do every day.

My family have been so impressed with the high-quality level of care given to my husband, whilst on palliative, and End of Life Care.
We were always made to feel welcome, and over the last 18 months, the Home has indeed been our second home.
The Care and devotion for my husband from all the staff, has been truly amazing and we are so grateful for making his final days so peaceful and caring.

Thank you.

I must say on arriving at Kendal Care Home I was pleasantly surprised by the reception area, you would think you were walking into a first-class hotel. I was so happy to see my friend so happy in his environment. He was so pleased to tell me how wonderful the staff were, his room and meals, and could not have wished for more.

I would certainly recommend the care home to my friends.

My friend had a degenerative condition similar to Motor Neurone Disease. She needed very high levels of help with all tasks and functions and as her speech deteriorated it became challenging to understand her. Some of her carers were exceptionally sensitive and tenacious in their efforts to understand her. The manager engaged with her on a personal level and strove to do everything in his power to make her life more bearable. Several other people - her room cleaner, her occupational therapist, the physiotherapists and the home's medical officer were warm, positive and encouraging and formed meaningful relationships with her. My friend was able to form attachments to these people and her more sensitive carers. Other carers seemed more detached and formal, giving adequate physical care but nothing more. This distressed her. The home is efficiently run. It is large but has a relaxed feel and as a visitor, I always felt welcome. My requests for help in e.g. finding a vase for flowers were always met willingly and cheerfully. I think the home succeeds as far as any large institution can, in creating a feeling of freedom and informatlity. I would certainly recommend it to friends or family members.

Kendal Care Home is a happy place! You will always see a smile on everyone's face! Our manager is happy, the residents, staff and visitors too, will always greet and welcome you! The residents' lives are lived in comfort and in pleasure, their wonderful rooms where to live in complete leisure. Their own en suite room if they prefer to shower, or a nurse will help you if you so desire. I must mention our foods that our chefs prepare! Better than any food you could find elsewhere. Our manager will talk to you if you need to discuss, you are important to him!

We are so pleased that we managed to get a place for our father at Kendal Care Home. All the staff, from Management down are very approachable and appear happy in their work. This happiness then seems to spread through the home so it doesn't feel like a care home, more a luxury hotel! Nothing we ask is too much bother. When we visit it is like visiting extended family. We are always made to feel very welcome. My father has everything available to him that he could wish for, a beautiful garden, lots of space within the home, so many different activities it's impossible to list them all. The nursing staff are very caring and know the families of their residents. Can't rate Kendal Care Home and its wonderful staff highly enough. Thank you to everyone who works within the home.

My aunt was a resident here and I have never seen her so happy. The standard of care that was given to her was outstanding and they met every care needs she had. They cared for her with compassion and built a trusting relationship with her, they treated her and us like family. The nurses and carers were so thoughtful and kind and helped us understand and make appropriate care choices for what her health issues needed. The management team are always approachable and so welcoming when you arrive and always has an open door when needed. The wellbeing team do such a great job for the residents to always have an activity on and asking everyone to come and be included. The food and beverages are also great and having a dining room so everyone can eat together makes it feel like a home. My aunty loved it here and called it 'home'. My family can't thank the staff enough. Thank you all at Kendal Care Home.

My mother has been in the Kendal Care Home since July 2024. She had been resistant to having care at home never mind going into care at all. However, she has settled well and the many questions, requests and issues raised have been patiently worked through. The staff have been kind and patient. The management team are accessible, approachable and responsive to questions and chatting with visitors. My mother has been encouraged and enabled to live well in this home and as a result seems to be thriving.

First of all, thank you to the management who are always approachable and to the carers on the ward, all friendly, kind and helpful. I have just two complaints. In over 5 weeks my bedlinen was changed just once, not good. Secondly, the food was poor, it lacked fresh fruit and vegetables and odd food combinations - pizza with diced carrots, turnips etc bizarre! I lost quite a bit of weight, now putting it back on.

Reply from Graham Burrell, Manager at Kendal Care Home

We are very sorry that your experience was not up to scratch. We always encourage our residents, families and friends to speak out if things are not going as expected. My mother has been a resident here since December 2022. The standard of care was good when she first arrived, but has just got better and better to the point where I would now describe it as outstanding. Carers are patient thoughtful and kind. Health issues and concerns are treated appropriately with GPs consulted if the staff think it necessary. Activities are arranged throughout the week and there's a strong sense of community. My mum is settled and content, and I'm so pleased with the care she receives. The highlight has been the support the care home staff recently gave my whole family by supporting my mum to attend her grandson's wedding. The atmosphere in the home seems to recognise that residents need friends and family so we are always made welcome when we visit and there are frequent activities that include us such as BBQ in the summer, and invites to share Christmas lunch. My mum tells me she is happy here so for me that's wonderful. Well done to all the staff.

Previously independent and living alone at 89 years of age, after having a stroke December 22, my mother is now wheelchair-bound and needs a hoist. She has been living in Kendal Care Home since April 22. My mother has thrived since living there and joins in the many activities organised. Despite being on a semi puréed diet she loves the food and is always very very happy and cheerful. The staff are brilliant, the carers are endlessly patient, caring, and friendly. The occupational therapy/activities staff work tirelessly to ensure a huge variety of crafts and stimulating events. Management in KCH have got the running of the place absolutely spot on and I cannot praise them highly enough. Celebrating her 90th birthday last August, the care home organised a brilliant party for her, with a great singalong, food and drinks. I asked my mother the other day if she was enjoying living there and to quote she said 'I love it'. Thanks to all involved for making my mother's later years such fun!
