My mum joined the home on the 1st of March so a new resident. She is looked after & cared for very well. She has a choice of what to eat. Daily activities if she wishes to join in. Staff are friendly and caring. She doesn't feel lonely or bored, she is happy, I am happy.

This is the third care home my relative has lived in and by far the best. My relative is very happy at Abbot Care Home. They like the carers, the food and the general vibe. The carers are wonderful where nothing is too much trouble, issues if any are listened to and dealt with. The care my relative
receives is excellent. Communication with family members is good, we are involved in our relatives care at all levels. The home offers an excellent activity list, there is something for everyone and new activities are always being introduced according to residents wishes. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Abbot Care Home to others.

I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the exceptional care, kindness and compassion you show my mum every day.
It is such a comfort to know that she is surrounded by dedicated and caring individuals who go above and beyond to make her feel safe, valued and supported. Your patience,
warmth and professionalism do not go unnoticed and they mean the world to both my mum and our family.
I would like to give a special thanks to all the staff at Mallards and say thank you for everything you do to make her days brighter. Please know that your hard work and dedication make a profound difference, and we are truly grateful. What can I say about one lady who is always going over and beyond to make people happy you are truly amazing and I will never be able to repay you for the kindness you showed to Mum not only now but while she was in hospital, you are one amazing lady.
Reply from Kendra Bray, Group Sales & Marketing Business Partner at Abbot Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and heartfelt message. Your kind words mean more to us than we can express, and they serve as a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. We are deeply grateful to have the privilege of caring for your mum and it is truly wonderful to hear that the care and compassion we strive to provide every day bring comfort to her and to your family. Knowing that she feels safe, valued and supported is the highest compliment we could receive. Your recognition of our team's patience, warmth and professionalism touches us deeply. I would also like to highlight the special mention of our team member who went above and beyond to ensure continuity of care for your mum while she was in the hospital. It is gestures like these-driven by genuine care and commitment-that reflect the heart of our team. Your gratitude inspires us to continue working hard to make every day brighter for those we care for.

My nan has been at Abbot for over a year and it's the best decision we ever made to send her here. Her life has changed for the better. She is happier here than she has been in years. The staff are so caring and kind; we know she is in the best possible hands whenever we leave. The activities are great
in helping her to meet other residents and the activity staff are so enthusiastic. Nan enjoys every minute of the activities that she does.
Thank you so much to the staff at Abbot for everything you do for my nan and the happiness that you bring to her life.

My nan has been at Abbot Care Home for 11 months now and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the care she receives. Each carer goes above and beyond to understand her needs and the little quirks and routines she has throughout the day. You instantly get a homely feel when you walk in and
are always greeted well by the carers. Nothing ever seems too much for them and I couldn't wish for my nan to be anywhere better for her. Thank you Abbots.

The kettle that is being used for the residents and visitors/staff needs to be replaced. It has no filter and is full of limescale.
Urgent attention is needed.
Also, the ward in general had a very unpleasant smell of urine which isn't common.
Reply from Kendra Bray, Group Sales & Marketing Business Partner at Abbot Care HomeThank you for your kind feedback and high rating. We sincerely apologise for the issues you encountered. The kettle has now been replaced with a brand-new one, as the initial new kettle was unfortunately broken on arrival. Regarding the odour, while rare, such occurrences can happen in a care home environment but we are actively working to address this and maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and comfort. We truly value your understanding and ongoing support.

I moved into Abbots Care Home in October 2023. I was impressed the moment I walked in. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Went into my room and was gobsmacked, it's a large room with lots of space for my wheelchair. The staff are amazing they're very professional, kind, caring, and have a great
sense of humour - for me, this is the perfect home to be in. I've made some lovely friends in here.
Reply from Matt Abbotson, Home Manager at Abbot Care HomeThank you for your very complimentary review. We are really pleased to hear that you are enjoying it here with your Abbot family. I am glad that Mum has access to 24 hour care. The staff are kind and friendly.
The staff can not only give Mum a lift but me as well, particularly when Mum is having a bad day and I need some reassurance.
I can't understand how, having all Mum's clothes marked with her name and room number can still
go missing in the wash; while she is sometimes wearing someone else's clothes.
I have seen her clothes that have been put in her drawer without being folded.
Mum gets looked after well.

Mum joined The Jubilee Suite of Abbot Care Home in September 2023. Mum was made totally welcome by all the staff and six months on and she's still receiving excellent care and attention from all of her carers, nursing staff and the catering team. Mum's many medical needs often leave her needing urgent
medical attention and the staff have responded in a fast, efficient way to ensure she has received the care and GP treatments in a very satisfactory time frame. Her personal carers are friendly and very supportive of Mum and she has grown very fond of them. The nursing staff have proved invaluable and her care has been excellent. The hostess service ensures that Mum's special dietary needs are always catered for and the chef goes out of her way to provide everything she needs and asks for, she's not been overlooked with adjustments made to ensure she has healthy treats. Administrative staff have been prompt and courteous when contacted and have dealt with things most satisfactorily.
Reply from Matt Abbotson, Home Manager at Abbot Care HomeThank you for your very kind review. The team do go above and beyond and will try to do everything they possibly can to meet care needs for each of the residents. I am pleased to hear that all team members that Mum has come into contact with have made Mum's stay an enjoyable one. This information has been passed on to the team.

Passing on the responsibility of care to someone is one of the hardest things we have had to do but the staff there exceeded our expectations as to the levels of care and love they provided for Mum.
By placing our trust in you all it enabled us to become her children again and her to see us through
a mother's eyes once more.
The times when she was ill and needed nursing back to good health, you were there and got her through it. The compassion and friendship they shared with her was a great comfort for the family.
When it got near the end we wanted her to be where she was at home, Abbots.
We wanted Mum to be where she felt safe and that was there with you all.
When she passed the staff were so supportive and caring, I can never thank them enough for the respect they showed Mum and us at the time.
Everyone there gave us something so special, you gave us time with Mum, time that without your care we wouldn't have had to share in the laughter and smiles we all had when we saw her.
Reply from Matt Abbotson, Home Manager at Abbot Care HomeThank you for your very kind review of Abbot and the team, we were very sad to say goodbye to Mum but are reassured that she was loved and cared for well and that the care she received gave you back your relationship as her children again.

Mum was transferred from hospital to Abbot Care Home in August 2022 for end-of-life care. The family wasn't sure what to expect initially but first impressions were good, a lovely room with an en-suite bathroom. Over the first few weeks, we began getting to know the staff and appreciated how incredibly
kind and friendly they were, both to us as visitors and to Mum as a patient. The carers were always very busy but took time when they could to chat to Mum and she built up a great rapport with everyone. We felt that Mum was safe and well looked after the entire time she was there. We have huge respect for the staff who work long hours in often difficult circumstances, yet still treat patients with respect and as individuals. Incredibly, Mum has improved with the help of people at Abbot and has now come home after five months. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Abbot Care Home and the wonderful staff and management who work so hard to make it what it is.

My time at Abbot Care Home was very good. All staff are fantastic whether they are nurses, cleaning staff, food chefs or receptionists, they were fantastic at their jobs. I can't say a bad word about the staff and can't thank the nurses enough for what they did for me and other residents. In my 7-week
stay, I was treated with respect as I did all staff. I would recommend this care home to my family and friends.

I've been spending time with my mother-in-law (resident) in Abbot Care Home since January 2020.
She is the first person with dementia who I've built a relationship with. The unit she's on had an informational board that provided a wealth of information, tips, and encouragement. Observing staff interactions
with her also provided a model of respect and dignity. I recently changed work and often support people with dementia. Various training has reinforced how knowledgeable and skilled the staff are.
Their infection control practices also seem excellent. I noted this first with their communication and containment of norovirus. It continued throughout Covid lockdowns and beyond.
We did hit some bumps around weekend visits during lockdown window visits, but management worked through them each time.
Staff are attentive not only to my family member's physical health, but her general wellbeing and interests. They problem-solve issues as they arise and communicate well with her children
Reply from Ruth Halls, Home Manager at Abbot Care HomeDear Rebecca,
Thank you so much for your kind review. I will share it with the whole team as I know they will be delighted to hear that their hard work and commitment towards the residents are being acknowledged through your review.
We are always looking for ways of making any necessary improvements for the resident's care so taking the time to write a review supports us in doing that and ensures that we are going in the right direction.
Once again thank you very much.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.858)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.858) out of 10 for Abbot Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 54 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 54 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.858 for Abbot Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (558 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 640 Ratings = 4.858
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbot Care Home is based on 54 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 117 registered maximum number of service users is 23.4, which has been reached with 54 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
