Mum has been a resident of this home for 4 years this month and I’m very happy with the care she receives. The staff are friendly and caring with both residents and their relatives. Knowing that mum is treated with kindness, respect and affection is very comforting for our family.

My Dad, who sadly passed away on 15 April 2021, went into the Assessment Unit at Abbot Care Home in Harlow in June 2020, following a stay in Hospital. He was transferred into the Nursing Unit (Eider and Teal) in August 2020. I cannot rate this unit and indeed the home high enough. The staff were amazing,
nothing was ever too much trouble. Dad realised that he had to be there, as he could not be looked after at home, and never complained, always saying how lovely the staff were. When returning from short stays in hospital he always said "I am so pleased to be home". The amazing entertainment team regularly visited dad in his room, which kept him going. We feel so lucky dad was so well looked after by such amazing caring people.
Reply from Ruth Halls, Home Manager at Abbot Care HomeI would like to thank you for your review of Abbot Care Home, I know we are all working hard to and it is lovely to be able to share the feedback you have given us with the staff. It helps us to remain positive and focused on the care of the residents. Thank you again.

Dad has spent six weeks at Abbot House in Harlow on a respite basis and although he was understandably keen to go home, the care he received there was excellent. Staff always friendly, room was really nice and bright and ensuite a real bonus. I will also say that, for me, dealing with the management
of the home was always a pleasure. They always went out of their way to make things easier and help whenever and wherever they could.
Reply from Donna Johnson, Home Manager at Abbot Care HomeThank you for your kind review, it was a delight to have your Dad staying with us and we wish him well for the future.

My father is currently in an assessment unit at the home and I have visited a few times to drop things off. I must say that the staff have been brilliant and the setting is lovely. So tranquil. My father has been in hospital on and off since February and in the last two weeks, he has been happier than
he has been for a long time. I am now hoping for a permanent place, so his care can be continued there.

My friend has only been there a few days but he's settled nicely. All the staff, from orderly to manager show a friendly, helpful and compassionate attitude to residents and visitors. Food looks better than the last care home and we've been told they are changing it all to fresh food prepared and cooked
at the home.
All staff are there to help whenever needed. Think I'll book my room now!
Seriously though, well done to all staff.

Wonderful caring going on in this home. We have a new manager and whilst the previous one was good, I feel the new one will make new inroads into activities and make the home come alive for the residents even more. She has lots of ideas which are fresh and invigorating and she will make them work. She
organised a BBQ - her first activity. Despite the rain, it was a fabulous afternoon. A resident provided the music and was the DJ.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.858)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.858) out of 10 for Abbot Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 54 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 54 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.858 for Abbot Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (558 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 640 Ratings = 4.858
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbot Care Home is based on 54 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 117 registered maximum number of service users is 23.4, which has been reached with 54 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Ewrurama Addai

Job Title: Registered Nurse Joined: 2022

I have been a nurse in the U.K. for over 3 years, caring for older adults with compassion and professionalism. I focus on providing person-centred care, ensuring residents feel safe, supported, and valued every day. Seeing a smile on the face of someone I support, knowing that I have helped them to accomplish something, it by participating in an activity or by simply assisting them and lending a hand to move from one point to another, gives me great satisfaction.

Medication management, wound care, dementia care, patient advocacy, and mentoring junior team members.

Outside of work, I enjoy going to the gym, listening to music, reading mystery/detective novels, and spending quality time with my family.
