Fantastic care home, wonderful staff, so warm and friendly. It was my mum's first time for respite so very apprehensive but didn't need to worry, it is a testament to everyone there that my mum did not want to come home. She will definitely be back for future stays. We can only say again thank you the manager and your team for the outstanding work you do.

Reply from Rachel Aran, Marketing Administrator at Alder House Care Home - Avery Healthcare

Thank you for taking the time to review Alder House Care Home and for your lovely feedback. We are delighted to hear that your Mum enjoyed her respite stay at Alder House. Our highly trained staff team always endeavour to make all our residents feel at home in the loving community that we create. Your kind words are truly invaluable to us. Best wishes Rachel.

Not recommended for Alzheimer’s. My mother was wrongly advised by a senior member of staff at Alder House that the care would be suitable for my father. He was falling repeatedly, in this home, averaging 3 times per week. Not only this, upon visiting, I found him to be unwashed, wearing dirty clothes, often with food down his trousers. I had to ask for him to be showered. I complained to the care home manager, as I was obviously extremely worried. The complaint letter was never responded to from my mother. My father was evicted with 7 days notice during the lockdown, this was apparently due to my (quote) “threatening behaviour”. As we were frantically searching for somewhere else, my father was admitted into Hospital over Easter weekend with a suspected hip fracture following another unattended fall at Alder House. He waited 1 week for an MRI, contracted COVID-19. My now late father and our family experienced inhumane treatment by Alder House. We are still haunted by this experience.

Reply from Angus Matthew, Senior Marketing Manager at Alder House Care Home - Avery Healthcare

Father came into our care for a period of respite, so you had an opportunity to sample our services. Unfortunately, at this assessment stage, your father's previous history of falling was not disclosed. After the period of respite had ended, the family asked for the placement to be made more...

I would like to commend the management and staff of Alder House for coping so admirably with the coronavirus situation. They have had to deal with extraordinary circumstances and have had to risk their own and their family's health to continue to give the residents outstanding care. The care is delivered with good humour and genuine affection. I am so happy that my mother is content and so well cared for.

My mum has been at Alder House since December 2016, initially moving in for respite with my dad, both in their 90s. Mum has a lovely room with en-suite. It is such a relief to know she is being so well cared for during the current crisis. The staff have been amazing and although I haven’t been able to see Mum in person, we have been FaceTiming (Mum is very deaf and has dementia) where the carers have helped her with the iPad. It’s been reassuring to see photos of Mum on Facebook and to hear about the treats and activities that the residents have still been able to participate in, particularly that in this sunshine they have been able to socially distance in the lovely gardens. Most of all, I am so grateful for the care, kindness and understanding that Mum (and I) always receive from the wonderful staff.

This is a lovely care home and I would recommend anyone to let their loved ones live here. The staff are great and there is a lovely atmosphere for the residents and staff. The staff care about their residents and their good health and well being. Our sister is in good humour and is well, considering her Alzheimers. Her room is like a hotel bedroom, spacious and very clean.

Such a lovely, friendly caring home. Nothing is too much trouble for any member of staff. They all work together and form a very strong team. You can feel that they all get on as a unit. The atmosphere is always very calm and they are so kind and caring to all residents. We have witnessed all of them going over and above what their role is, there are no boundaries. An amazing care home, something I have not witnessed in any other home I have visited.

My friend is very well cared for and very happy. The staff (all) are excellent and very kind, nothing too much trouble. The home itself is clean, well maintained with excellent facilities and food. I am very happy to visit and can even take along my dog, who by the way loves all the attention she gets from the residents and staff. This home is just what everyone could wish for in our later years.

A beautiful peaceful home. The staff are wonderful and treat the residents with respect dignity and love. Our mum has only been in for a short while but she has been looked after as though she is family. There are also lots of activities taking place and a beautiful garden for residents to go outside have a sit down and a chat or help planting seeds. The home is always spotlessly clean and smells lovely.

Would I recommend this home? Yes, 100%.

How to begin is the greatest difficulty!
Alder House excels itself as a real 'care home'.
In my line of work before I retired, I visited a great many care homes over the years, so I recognise a good one when I see it.
The first step into the building, from reception, the staff and the wards, there is a friendliness, warmth and awareness from everyone.
I once thanked one of the staff for the care and attention and the reply was 'we love them all!'

That is Alder House.

Alder House is by far the best facility of its kind in this area and I’ve visited many. Yes, it’s more expensive than most but you certainly get what you pay for. Best of all I now have peace of mind that my aunt is being well looked after in what could pass as a 5* hotel.

Staff are fantastic and must be happy in their work as the atmosphere is great.

Mum is spending time at Alder House as I needed surgery and was unable to help with her care. Mum has dementia and usually sleeps most of the time BUT over the last two weeks mum has been chatting, engaging in activities and taking pride in her appearance. She is now getting up and dressed in the morning instead of waiting for carers. She is gaining weight and loving the choice of food. She is making the choices. I have seen such a change and mum is living not existing.

Sadly, mum will be going home in a week but I hope she will be able to spend more time at Alder House for another holiday very soon.

It is great to see so many staff constantly interacting with the residents and not just between 9 and 5. Activities continue all day and weekends too. There is company and stimulation when wanted or peace and quiet when not. Every member of staff I have met has had mum’s (and the other residents) best interests at heart. What more could I ask for?

Thank you, EVERYONE.

We looked at a lot of Care Homes before feeling confident in choosing Alder House for our mum. We were not disappointed. From the first moment, we walked in it was like going into a 5-star hotel with brilliantly trained staff for whom nothing was ever too much trouble. They were caring, kind, dedicated and supportive to both mum and the whole family and I can't thank them enough for all they did for her. It was a pleasure visiting her there and seeing her join in and enjoy the variety of activities, she was happy and settled and never asked 'When am I going home?" because the wonderful staff made Alder House feel like home. I would highly recommend Alder House for anyone looking for care for themselves or a relative because the staff here are the epitome of care.

Thank you all.

We came for a weeks respite care. Husband had 2 strokes and several TIA's in recent years.
I had health issues. The experience has been exactly what we hoped for. The care and effort put in by all staff has given me the motivation to go forward again rather than feeling life has "stalled". We do hope to repeat the experience in spring of 2019.

Thank you to everyone!

Deciding one's relative needs to move into a care home, is an emotional and difficult decision and is usually preceded by a stressful period of health issues, financial anxieties and tearful conversations. But Alder House was a light at the end of the tunnel and I have no regrets about us making the decision on Mum's behalf for her to move into Alder House. Yes, there were a few teething problems but nothing that couldn't be overcome through constructive and caring dialogue between family and staff. I can't praise all the staff highly enough for their kindness, dedication, support, professionalism and last but not least, their good humour even during dark times. They gave Mum a new lease of life, and despite her failing health, she remained positive and never lost her sense of humour. And I can honestly say that I enjoyed visiting Mum there. Thank you so much to all the staff.

Overall Experience
My husband is nicely settled now in his luxury surroundings at Alder House Care Home after approximately a year. At first, it was difficult as every time he saw me he thought he was coming home but I was supported to handle each visit by excellent staff and it's lovely to see him now 'at home' in Alder House.

Staff respond to his specific needs and they make me feel as though they really love looking after him - this is so reassuring to family carers. He has all the medical checks he needs, is happy and eating well. Generally, I feel very relaxed about him being at Alder House now.

I have recently had a serious operation and throughout my recovery, Alder House looked after all his little extras that I couldn't help with. It was all handled very sensitively and they genuinely care about family members as much as the residents.
After 8 difficult years of my husband's mental health deterioration at home, he now has all the care he deserves and I can relax!

A huge THANK YOU to Alder House!
