Dad has been a resident of this care home since July 2022. We have received such care and compassion from all the staff, nursing, caring and office staff. So helpful, nothing is too much trouble.

Mum is very well cared for. Her room, albeit relatively small, is clean and warm with a TV and private bathroom. The staff are very loving and caring.

My husband was welcomed warmly and lots of staff introduced themselves to us explaining their roles. My husband's needs were quickly assessed and he was asked about his likes and dislikes relating to food activities and interests. Carers are kind and helpful. The nurses really know their stuff and the Admin staff are very efficient and a key point of contact for getting 'Housekeeping' issues sorted out. I am happy that my husband is in safe hands and will be properly cared for.

Very happy with my 94-year-old father's level of care at Avalon, his well-being is very happy and content here. He enjoys the company of all the staff who are very professional and have a personal touch and we can see how content he is at Avalon, thank you very much to all the staff.

Avalon Nursing Home has been my mum's home for several years now. She has been looked after by the staff who are extremely caring and patient and attend to all her needs to ensure she is healthy and happy. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful to support the family when needed and have always kept the family up to date with what is happening. The family are very grateful to all the staff for keeping Mum safe and happy when we weren't able to see her due to Covid.

Mum has only been in this home for 5 months, as she suffers with dementia I can't ask her how she feels but I know she is a lot happier than in her previous home and is being looked after very well. Haven't been able to spend much time at the home because of covid but hope to soon.

The Avalon looked after mum for nearly 18 months with lots of love care and friendship even though she could be difficult and strong-minded. They supported her through the height of Covid 19 when we weren't able to be there and made sure that I could be there in time to say my goodbye. I would highly recommend this nursing home and the staff they are absolutely brilliant and have become firm friends.

Overall Experience

On admission, Mother was given full examination and weight noted, treated kindly and with respect. Her room and fittings were modern, bright, and clean and a specialist bed to meet her needs. There were lockdown rules so some visiting restrictions which were painful for all especially at Christmas but they were lifted when possible. We were all called immediately when her health deteriorated and were allowed to visit unrestricted as 'end of life' caregivers. She had excellent full 24-hour care from staff right to the end of her life. Pain relief managed very sensitively. She was treated very kindly and with dignity and respect. My brother and I were also cared for as we spent long hours by day and through night at our Mother's bedside until the end.

Prior to admittance, management staff made a home visit to assess mother's care needs and then rapidly made arrangements to ensure mother could be admitted promptly to Avalon. She needed specialised equipment to assist mobility and Avalon was able to provide this. It was clear that there is a well-organised staffing structure with teams specialising in specific aspects of care, but all working to the same common ethos of high-quality compassionate care. Much kindness was shown to mother by all staff. Sadly the time came when mother reached end-of-life and she passed away peacefully. The staff supported us relatives very well during this emotionally difficult time, facilitating a bedside vigil.

From the very first contact with the home, they have been both informative and welcoming. They have made a very difficult transition in our lives as problem-free as is possible. All the staff are friendly and supportive - it's like a big family that cares for both the resident and their dearest.

Amazing staff, food, atmosphere. This care home is a real 'care home'. All the staff care for the residents as if they were their own family and treat the residents' families the same. So pleased and thankful my dad is in this home.

My husband now appears to be settling into Avalon with the help and encouragement of the staff. He has previously been reticent to join in with any activities but the staff have persevered and he has now begun to be more sociable. His dementia means that his behavior/attitude can vary and is quite unpredictable but the care staff have found ways to cope with this with both patience and humour - which seem to work well in difficult situations. The nursing staff keep us well informed of any medical issues and are always available and helpful. It’s reassuring that all the staff really care about the residents, treating them with respect and kindness. (It was lovely one day to overhear one of the new young male carers reassuring a resident by telling him that he was safe and that everything was alright.)

My mum went into the Avalon in September 2020, she has vascular dementia and went in right in the midst of the lockdown. She was met at the reception by several members of staff and the manager who reassured her and me that everything will be ok. It was so hard for us as a family to put my mum into a care home. But all the staff at the Avalon were so lovely and made my mum so welcome and made me feel that I wasn’t doing a bad thing. During these COVID times, the reception staff have been so helpful if I have to ring for something. The care staff do such a good job and nothing is too much trouble. They also have a fantastic activity program that I wish mum would join in but she’d rather stay quiet in her room. (A lovely care home.)

Avalon offers a happy home for my father. He is well looked after by lovely staff. He is calm when we visit and is treated with respect by the carers. I cannot offer an opinion for all areas as obviously visiting is restricted.

My lovely Mum has been with Avalon Care Home since July 2020. She has vascular dementia and has been prone to some aggressive behaviour towards other residents. I have found that all the staff are extremely caring and patient when looking after my Mum and I cannot fault any of the staff at Avalon, including the reception staff and the manager. Any issues I may have raised, have been dealt with quickly and efficiently. I am so grateful that my Mum is happy and well looked after at Avalon.

My father has been with Avalon for over a year now, he arrived at a very difficult and sensitive time - in the middle of the Covid pandemic. The staff were truly amazing in helping him settle into his new home and supporting us through the entire process. All the staff continue to care for him and attend to his needs to ensure he is healthy and happy. We love the regular updates on social media to help us feel part of their day-to-day living! So many activities are introduced to help keep the residents occupied and busy. My father always tells us the food is amazing! His room is a really good size, and the gardens are lovely for the warmer weather activities. As a family we are so happy we selected Avalon, we know they are the perfect match for my father's needs and always make us welcome when we visit. Thank you!

My mother and father have both been at the Avalon Nursing Home for several months now and I am extremely pleased with the care they have received. The staff have gone above and beyond what I expected in order to keep them safe and enable them to spend the remaining time they have left together. My father suffers from vascular dementia and has also become very immobile. He is subject to frequent verbal outbursts and is not easy to manage and I would like to thank the staff for all the patience they have shown when dealing with him. My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s and has become more and more forgetful over the past 7 years. In the summer of 2021, she became ill with a heart condition and I was no longer able to care for her at home because I felt she needed more specialist care. I was, therefore, delighted that the Avalon Nursing Home had a space for my mother to join my father so that they could be together once more.

My lovely dad was with Avalon for 9 months. He arrived when the country was in lockdown due to the Covid pandemic so visiting was limited. The home tried to make the best of what was an horrific situation by doing as much as they could to keep family in touch with loved ones. When restrictions eased I was able to visit dad inside the care home and was greeted with friendly caring staff and a happy dad sat in a clean room. We were able to be with dad the day he died. The care, love and support we received on what was truly a horrendous day was something I will never forget. A care home can have all the facilities in the world but what it needs is staff who care and love for your loved ones as you would and this is what Avalon has. Thank you for looking after and loving my dad as I did.
