Hi everyone my name is Simon!
I am the Wellbeing Coordinator for Dukes Court
Dukes Court has a very sentimental place in my heart as it is the first care home I've worked in, taking a total career path change back in 2014 when I decided to leave a very successful, highly paid but stressful sales account management role within the public sector to begin my career in a care setting. It was the best decision I ever made and I feel I was made for the role.
So what does a well-being coordinator role consist of?
Well, I can honestly say that it isn't all bingo and rice pudding at Duke's. The role might require me to be a listening ear for one minute, loneliness prevention, a meaningful one-to-one engagement. Other times I can be seen beavering away at the computer or on the telephone booking fantastic, quality entertainment and planning amazing weekly and monthly events. Families rely on me to keep our Facebook page updated daily with news and photos of their loved ones, we pride ourselves on our up-to-date content and engaging posts and we welcome the support and comments from our loyal followers and friends of Dukes Court. Singing, dancing, quiz and game host, I have adapted the skills I honed during my entertainment days and now try to give the residents a touch of the theatrical within our planned activities.
My background experience has been in the performing arts, studying at Booth Lane College in Northampton, and going on to work as a performer in the Skyline gang at Butlins, Skegness, Pontins, Haven, British Holidays and JMC holidays in Kos. Greece. The ten years of experience I gained performing to audiences of all ages over the years has enabled me to bring lots of fresh ideas and a variety of activities for our residents. I like to think out of the box, in fact, I probably threw away the box.
A local man, I was born and brought up in Wellingborough and I have close links with the community and this gives me a greater understanding of the surrounding areas. Always handy when having a chat with residents who may or may not know the area and definitely useful when planning our local trips.
Fun fact: When I left school I was a bartender at The Duke of York pub that used to be where Dukes Court stands today, pulling my first pints and enjoying the lively atmosphere that the Duke of York would create throughout the week and weekends. So you could say, I have come full circle!
I thoroughly enjoy my job and feel very privileged to spend my days with such wonderful ladies and gentlemen from whom I learn a lot and share laughs and smiles every day. I have a combined total of nearly five years as a well-being coordinator at Dukes Court now and I'm very excited to welcome new residents who have chosen us to be their care provider.
Feel free to come in and meet me, we can have a chat about all the activities we offer at Dukes Court, alternatively, by email.
If you pop in - don't be surprised to see me dressed in a 70's sequin disco attire, cowboy or 50's teddy boy outfit or perhaps even a tutu, anything to create a few smiles.
Hi, My name is Kate and I work as part of our wellbeing team.
I originally started my career working in retail where I worked for many years.
I eventually decided I wanted a change in career, That's when I found this perfect job at Dukes Court with a great team to work alongside.
I have been at Dukes Court for nearly 2 years now!
I find my job so rewarding, learning new things all the time about our residents.
You will often see us having a dance and sing-song to some old style classics as well as showing our artistic side in our arts and crafts sessions, Why don't you come along and see for yourself!
One to ones are very important part of my role in wellbeing for those who may not be able to physically join in with group activities.
Its a pleasure to go home at night time knowing I've made a difference and bought fun and happiness in to the day, not only to our residents but there family members too
