As a daughter of an elderly mother. I was faced with the decision of placing my mother whom could be difficult at times into a residential care home. It was one of the most challenging and difficult decisions of my life. I looked at a lot of care homes and began to think there was no home I could see
my mother living in. Then I found Knowle Gate. Right from the start it was amazing, and still is. The staff are really nice, friendly and caring.

At the beginning there were some teething problems but I found the staff approachable and professional.

I cannot recommend this home more highly. I thank them all the time and I'm grateful for the opportunity to leave this review enabling me to put my thoughts in writing. Thank you to all the staff and know all your efforts are acknowledged and appreciated.

Reply from Courtney Norton, Client Liaison Manager at Knowle Gate Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you so much for your lovely review and for trusting Knowle Gate with your mother's care. Overall we as a family are happy that our relative resides at Knowlegate. The most important thing is knowing that our relative is happy. However some staff need to be more interactive with all the residents and be more well versed in understanding the more challenging behaviour that dementia can present.
Reply from Courtney Norton, Client Liaison Manager at Knowle Gate Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for your review and for sharing your family's experience. We are delighted to hear that your relative is happy at Knowlegate, as their wellbeing and happiness are our highest priorities.

We also appreciate your constructive feedback regarding staff interaction and understanding of behaviours associated with dementia. We recognise how important meaningful engagement and specialist dementia care are for all residents, and your comments will help us continue to improve. We are committed to ongoing training and support for our team to ensure every resident receives compassionate, person-centred care.

Thank you again for your feedback and for placing your trust in us.

Overall, I am very pleased with my mum's care. The reception staff are excellent as are the activity ladies. I also find the senior carers provide detailed communication/discussion about mum's state of well-being as required. The other carers are generally friendly, smile and say hello as we arrive.
My comments on how their work could be improved include involving themselves more in residents day-to-day life beyond that of just their personal care. Sometimes we see a number of them sitting around or even sitting on the carers desk on mobile phones etc which doesn't give a good impression. This becomes more annoying when occasionally we find mum cold or thirsty and asking for a drink. Surely these are basic care needs that should be monitored throughout the day. She often looks disheveled with left over food etc down herself and/or spilled drink on her wheelchair. She deserves to be kept warm, clean and in a respectable state. Her room should also be kept locked as we've requested
Reply from Courtney Norton, Customer Service Manager at Knowle Gate Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear your positive comments about our reception team, activities staff, and senior carers, and we will ensure these are passed on.

We also appreciate your honest comments regarding the areas where we can improve. Your concerns regarding staff engagement, professionalism, and keeping doors locked have been taken seriously and will be addressed with the team.

Thank you again for your feedback, which helps us continue to improve the care and support we provide.

Both myself and my sister are absolutely delighted with the care that our dad has received at Knowlegate. He has been resident since August 2025 and every single day he has received outstanding care and support from each and every member of staff. He settled very quickly, which at 94 isn't easy. He's
put on weight which is down to the delicious nutritional food that is prepared and served every day. The surroundings are always very clean, bright and welcoming. Entertainment is varied, with in house activities provided by the 'Pink ladies' or special guests who come and entertain.
My sister and I have been made to feel welcome and part of the 'team' who are looking after dad. Which is very important to us. Putting dad in a care home was an awful decision to make, but that said, we know that Knowlegate is absolutely the best place for dad. We can rest easy knowing he is safe, warm, and exceptionally well cared for. To all the team at Knowlegate. Thank you. You are all amazing.
Reply from Courtney Norton, Customer Service Manager at Knowle Gate Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you so much for your wonderful review and kind words. We are delighted to hear that your dad has settled so well with us and that both you and your sister feel reassured and welcomed as part of his care journey.

It means a great deal to know that our team, environment, activities, and home-cooked meals have made such a positive difference to your dad's wellbeing. We will be sure to share your lovely comments with all of the team, including our "Pink Ladies," who work so hard to create enjoyable experiences for our residents.

Thank you again for placing your trust in us to care for your dad. Your feedback truly means the world to us.

A wonderful, caring and lovely new home for my father-in-law. We looked at several homes in the Solihull area and the facitlties here are outstanding and second to none. We are regularly kept informed of any concerns that they may have and communication is excellent. Activities for relatives offer rnrichment
and keep his mind active. He is 100 years of age and feels he has a new lease of life. When asked if he likes it here, his reply 'I love it here, the staff can't do enough for me!'

I can't begin to describe how happy I am to have found such a warm, friendly and caring home for my dad. The staff are just so kind to Dad and to my sister and I. The activities are so well thought out and relevant. Dad has visibly improved both physically and even mentally which considering his dementia
this is a real bonus. We are so pleased and relieved to have found Dad's new forever home.

Very good staff make this home so successful. Excellent food and activities. A larger bistro area would enhance the experiences of residents as would more activities in the evening. Patients suffering from dementia are given activities that are interesting and stimulating.

Mum was admitted to Knowle Gate Care Home after a hospital stay. The staff helped her settle in and have given her lots of encouragement to settle in. While at Knowle Gate we can see a marked improvement in her health. She has become more sociable again and enjoys taking part in activities. She is walking
more and eating so much better. The team at Knowle Gate could not do more to improve Mum's wellbeing. So pleased this is the choice made for her.

My mother stayed in Knowle Gate for 3 months whilst recovering from illness, and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and the way the whole home is run and maintained. Having had an experience of another home in the Solihull area, this home is clearly 5 Star, and everyone from the reception staff,
the carers, management and even the maintenance personnel, could not have done more to make Mum feel welcome and at home. I found all the staff to be personable and very caring and in particular the head carer who went above and beyond to ensure Mum received the best care and medical attention when required. It is thanks to the staff that Mum was able to recover her strength to be able to return home successfully. I would unreservedly recommend Knowle Gate. Thank you!

On the whole, we are very pleased that we chose Knowle Gate Care home to look after my father. There are some exceptional members of the team that we cannot fault and they have developed a great relationship with Dad. There have been times where we have had to raise issues but the fact that we are still

Where do I start? I can not thank the staff at Knowle Gate enough for all that they have done for my mom and our family.
Knowle Gate have been amazing. They provide specialist dementia care and support for residents under and over 65, in a setting that is warm, welcoming and homely. They have helped
my mom to regain her confidence, self-esteem and purpose. The staff consider the residents personalised hobbies and interests and they go the extra mile to see each and every one of their residents smile. Since my mom has been at Knowle Gate she has flourished. Everything she tells me about Knowle Gate is positive. From the meals she eats, the friends she’s made and the activities that she has taken part in, she has really enjoyed her time there. Mom values the staff and residents as an extension of her family and so do we.
Thank you for everything that you do and thank you for being apart of our journey we really do appreciate you.

I am Power of Attorney for an elderly lady and I chose this care home for her based on the location, facilities and the level of care. I can honestly say that since she's been in Knowle Gate Care Home, my work as Power of Attorney has been very easy as everything is taken care of, and my elderly friend
seems more happy than she's been for a long time. The price is obviously not cheap, but it is absolutely worth it! And it is nice for friends and relatives to visit as well!
I cannot comment on food and drink as I have not personally tried any, but free coffee and cakes for visitors in the reception area are always nice.

Mum has dementia and has been a resident for two years now. During that time her dementia has developed further and the staff have been brilliant throughout helping me and Mum adapt. The activities program is crucial to Mum, especially anything involving singing and movement, and the home puts on so
many different activities each week. The backup support from the care staff, receptionists, hairdressers, chiropodist, and doctor have been excellent especially now that movement is becoming more restrictive. Mum and I love the social events that are organised for residents and visitors, a chance for everyone to meet. The home is not perfect, no because it’s not their own home but I still believe it’s the closest I can get to making her feel like it.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.636) out of 10 for Knowle Gate Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.786 for Knowle Gate Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (134 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 168 Ratings = 4.786
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Knowle Gate Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
