Have stayed here for 6 months and have settled in well. Staff are helpful and there when I need them. There are activities every day. Everyone is very friendly, supportive and I am very happy with the care. The home is homely, and lots of others to talk to. My family visits whenever they like. The housekeeping
team do a good job.

My mother was admitted to the care home in December 2023 after loosing my father. Her dementia made it impossible to live at her own home any longer. I knew the inevitable would happen one day but hoped she would at least find some respite which sadly has not been the case. The organisation offer dementia
care but have not followed good practice in the area at all. She passed away on December 9th 2025 being admitted to hospital with dehydration and a chest infection. Prior to this she had been pushed over and broken her hip with the hospitalisation required. And she had another fall in the interim time. Falls and chest infections are high risk in dementia patients and good practice is to avoid them happening. Any contact from the organisation was to blame her in all cases but in reality she was a nurse and in her mind she was still helping people around her. Instead of a peaceful end of life this care home has hastened and added to her and her families suffering.
Reply from Steve Gardner-Collins, On behalf of the team at Hayward Care CentreThank you for taking the time to share your concerns about the care of your late mother. I would like to begin by offering our heartfelt condolences to you and your family on your loss. We recognise how deeply painful this period has been and appreciate how difficult it can be to revisit these experiences. Your mother came into our care in December 2023. We understand that this was a significant and emotional transition for her and for your family. Our team endeavoured to support her needs during what were challenging circumstances, and we are truly sorry that her experience did not meet your expectations. We acknowledge your concerns, people living with dementia are sadly at increased risk of falls and medical complications, even when preventative measures are in place. We are very sorry if any communication from our organisation felt insensitive or appeared to place responsibility on your mother. This was never our intention. We recognise and respect her background as a nurse and her natural wish to help others, which were clearly important aspects of who she was. Our staff strive to provide care that upholds dignity, compassion, and respect at all times. While we do not believe that our actions contributed to hastening your mother’s decline, we do take your feedback seriously. Your comments have been shared with the management team and will inform our ongoing review of practices to ensure we continue to deliver the highest possible standards of dementia care. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further, you may raise a formal complaint via our website, where our Feedback and Complaints Policy is also available. You can also contact our Feedback and Complaints Manager on 0330 460 1707 or via email at complaints@osjct.co.uk. Once again, please accept our sincere condolences, and thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

Overall experience was very positive. I felt well cared for and safe from the beginning. The ethos is very much 'behave as you would at home' with certain safety limits. It is a very open handed and generous.

My first visit to Haywards and I found the home to be a friendly environment with attentive and supportive staff who showed interest in my mother's life and her family.
Room well appointed, overlooking a garden area.
Food seemed to be fairly bland and lacking variety, but this was only over a couple
of meals I experienced.
Overall, a good experience - thanks to all.

From the moment my mum entered Hayward the staff could not of done more to make her feel welcome. This didn't change throughout her stay.
I have nothing but positive things to say regarding the place as a whole. Always clean and tidy, always plenty of staff on hand. What was a hard decision to make
was made very easy once the team took over.
I would highly recommend Haywood Care Centre to anyone.

Very pleased with quality of service and my dad was more than happy. There was one occasion when I asked sticky plasters were not used as when removed peel off my dad's skin due to blood thinners making his skin weak, and the next day after my request the same nurse was using sticky plasters, with the
excuse that appropriate bandages were "not in stock" and they were awaiting delivery. I would not have given my dad sedatives on the Monday, but my family believe it was the right decision as he was sometimes anxious and visibly

We found that mums Respite stay of 3 weeks at Hayward Care Centre had been a happy experience.
She loved chatting to the other residents & interaction with the staff.
She was well cared for by the staff who attended to her needs.
We were away for just over 2 weeks, family & mums home careers that
visited all found mum to be well cared for and happy.
At 97 with limited mobility, dementia and not being able to maintain personal hygiene we will use Hayward Care Centre again for Respite whilst we push for funding for residency.

My husband enjoyed his stay at Hayward care home and was very well looked after.
He cannot remember any details hence the need for me to complete this form.
He has no idea that he was with you for three weeks but it meant that I could visit a sick friend in New Zealand without worrying about him.
Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.544)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.544) out of 10 for Hayward Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.544 for Hayward Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (273 Excellents x 5) + (114 Goods x 4) + (26 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 421 Ratings = 4.544
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hayward Care Centre is based on 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 35 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Suzanne Davison

Job Title: Support Worker Joined: 2023

Suzanne has worked at Hayward Care Centre since November 2023, and this is her first role in care.

Previously, she worked as a cabin crew.

Suzanne loves following jobs through to the end, and loves the attention to detail that her job allows, remembering all the little things about the people she cares for; who likes their tea in a mug and who prefers a cup and saucer? Who likes their toast cut into squares and who prefers triangles?

When she’s not working, Suzanne loves spending time with her young family and being out in the countryside.
