My mum moved into Merlin Manor in April 2026. From the initial assessment, the Manager and Senior Carer were caring, compassionate and responsive, which was greatly appreciated during an emotional time for our family.

My mum moved into Merlin Manor in April 2026. From the initial assessment, the Manager and Senior Carer were caring, compassionate and responsive, which was greatly appreciated during an emotional time for our family. There was some confusion regarding Mum's room on her first day, but management resolved this immediately and were genuinely apologetic. I also raised a concern regarding privacy and dignity, which was addressed promptly and professionally, giving me confidence in the home's commitment to high standards of care. The staff are worth their weight in gold and continue to provide safe, person-centred support. Mum has settled in well, made new friends and enjoys the wide range of activities available.
As a family, we are extremely grateful for the care and support Mum receives at Merlin Manor.

The thanks extend to all staff at the home, who provided 1st class care, from the nursing staff to carers, activities team, laundry, kitchen staff and management. Staff were courteous and efficient and any requests were dealt with promptly. Dignity and empathy was shown right up till the end.

The care home my Grandad was originally at could not meet need and therefore my Grandad needed to be moved not only from the care home, but from his wife too. This was truly heartbreaking for us as a family.

This was truly heartbreaking for us as a family. However, from the first phone call to check availability, I was soon put at ease. Management were wonderful.From the first show around I quickly knew that Merlin Manor was the right place for my Grandad. We were worried that my Grandad would become distressed because of his dementia needs. Merlin Manor went above and beyond to make sure my Grandad was happy and settled. All staff are friendly and welcoming. They are always there to answer any questions or queries and are always happy to help.
They have also been such a huge support not just for Grandad, but us as a family. I would recommend Merlin Manor to anybody looking for their loved one. I have zero concerns and know that my Grandad is loved and looked after and has the best possible care.

Both of my in laws are now residing and being cared for here. My mother in law has been in nursing care since October 25 and her care has allowed her to improve following discharge from hospital. Carers annd nursing staff are friendly and listen and act upon any concerns we have . Her great grandson on seeing her improvement said ' they have fixed her ' . When her husband needed to move into residential care it was a relief to us that they had a room available for him. There have been good days and bad days along the way but we know that the home is committed to supporting them and us in managing their needs . The home management iare approachable and really know about the needs of residents and strive to ensure that very high standards are maintained. It is pleasing to see high levels of commitment and compassion amongst the whole team involved in providing the care individuals need.

The attention and support she was given at a time when she was at the most vulnerable time of her life showed no bounds. Anything she needed was provided in no time; taking care of her needs and wishes. Staff working in care homes rarely get the recognition they deserve for the hard work and effort they put in when caring for residents. I have the greatest respect for team Merlin and would like to say a massive thank you to them for their care and support.

Entertainment and Social Activities - Excellent.
My mother in law has recently joined her husband (On a different floor as she has different needs) and she is settling in really well. I honestly can't say anything bad about Merlin Manor and it's always a pleasure to visit and see how happy my relatives are in there.

I left School in 2005 and started Hartlepool College of Further Education, I was studying BTEC 1st Diploma in Caring and then went on to study for the BTEC National Diploma in Health. I started my career at the age of 17, I started working as an Out of Hours Medical Receptionist for Northern Doctors Urgent Care, Whilst I was studying at Teesside University doing Adult Nursing, unfortunately, after 2 years due to ill health, I could not finish my Nursing degree. However, I was awarded with a Higher Education Certificate in Health and Social Care. I then started working for Carewatch as a Carer home care. It was from a very young age that I knew whatever path I chose it would be Care, I always knew that helping others gave me great satisfaction.
I worked at Carewatch for one year. After Carewatch I got the post of Senior Carer at Lindisfarne Care Home, I worked at Lindisfarne for 8 years, I felt I learnt a lot whilst working at Lindisfarne and knew that I had found a job that I love and enjoy, I was always wanting to learn more and climb the ladder, I then went on to study the Level 5 Leadership and Management in Adult Care Diploma and whilst doing so I was offered the Deputy Managers Position at Lindisfarne, I worked as Deputy Manager and Acting Manager June 2021 to February 2022 this was a great achievement for me, I felt all my hard work was finally paying off.
I love working in care and making a difference. In February 2022 I decided to seek other employment and went on to work as a Senior Support Worker with Voyage Care in Hartlepool, I thoroughly enjoyed my role but always felt something was missing. I then applied for the role of Deputy Manager at Merlin Manor Care Centre to which I was successful, I am extremely excited to be working for such an amazing company that strives to provide person-centred care but also supports its staff.

I have worked in the care sector for over 35 years and started my path to care as a housekeeper and then felt that I would make a caring care assistant as I enjoyed the interaction I got when I was a housekeeper and always wanted to do more for the residents so that started my journey to care.
I always said that by the time I was 40 years, I would like to be a manager as I was a single parent I could not commit to the job role of a manager until my youngest son left school, and lucky enough I was already a Deputy in a care home in Easington Colliery for 5 years, my son then left school and I then became the manager of Ashwood Park.
I have managed care homes for 25 years now. These have been Nursing homes, Residential homes with Dementia.
Each home has been different but very rewarding and at times challenging.
