First impressions were very positive. All the staff were very friendly and professional. This has continued ever since, especially as my mother-in-law has settled in. The food and catering is also very good and refreshments are available for visitors as well. I'm also very impressed with all the activities
organised, even in the short time she has been here. All in all a very friendly and welcoming home.

Visiting for the first time sealed the deal! Such friendly staff and very informal atmosphere. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they are all so caring and know the residents very well. My mum has been living here for a month but has settled in remarkably well. Loves her dinners and now the
trips out to the seaside! A great decision which I keep sharing with whoever will listen.

The staff at Orchard Gardens are caring, attentive, professional and friendly and have gone above and beyond to ensure my father is well cared for and comfortable in his new environment.
Communication has been excellent with family members and I feel I could approach them with any issues. They have
encouraged my father to participate in engaging activities and have provided well-prepared and delicious food. I am reassured with the level of care he is receiving. Thank you.

The staff are always polite, caring and professional, nothing is too much trouble. The manager was very accommodating when my father had to be admitted as an emergency. She explained very clearly and ensured his admission ran smoothly. My mother was admitted here when discharged from hospital and we
received the same seamless professional experience.

This care home is such a special place. The effort that the team put into organising activities for the residents is absolutely amazing. Almost every day there is something going on to stimulate and encourage the residents. The carers are all very kind, the home is clean, light and airy. It is worth
every penny.

Could not fault the staff or facilities. The staff were always polite and willing to answer any questions, or queries. Unfortunately, my mother did not participate in any of the activities as she was not interested.

My father was in Orchard Gardens for a six-week period of respite care after fracturing his collarbone. During this time he was treated with care and respect and as a family, we felt at ease leaving him in the safe hands of the staff. We were also given a very warm welcome when visiting and were fully
supported by everyone. They really care about their residents and we would recommend this care home to anyone.

Unfortunately Dad has had a small stroke and it has left him blind but he seems to be coping with the help of the excellent staff.

My mother moved to Orchard Gardens in July 2021 and the staff have always been caring and helping her settle and meet her wishes. From autumn 2023 Mum became iller and frailer and we could not have asked for a more kind, caring and attentive staff. They maintained her dignity at all times. Her team
leader was excellent, always keeping us informed of changes in her health and medication. In her final days staff were so thoughtful and kind to us as a family and Mum. Management has not always been efficient and general communication has been poor and non-existent on occasion which is a shame because otherwise, the home is excellent.

I think we struck very lucky in finding Orchard Gardens. There is nothing to fault. The standards are high in every way. It's great that Mum has been introduced to colouring - something she's never done before, but which she now loves. We have just had an in-depth meeting with a staff member which literally
covered everything concerning Mum's care. It was very impressive and helpful to know all we were told. Thank you to you all for all the care and all you do for Mum.

Excellent welcome by all the care staff.
They build a relationship with the families too.

My dad came in after an illness. He couldn't move and not really chat or hold a conversation. After four days of fab TLC, he is starting to be the person he used to be. The night and day staff have been great and dealt with him at his lowest point, and he is very grateful. With the use of a physio onsite,
it's just perfect for rehabilitation.

The home has been very good at looking after my mum, despite Covid restrictions and staff shortages. The food choices have been restrictive and not very appetising, but are starting to improve. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The care manager has been very helpful, and nothing is too much trouble.
Reply from Shelley Young, Home Manager at Orchard GardensThank you for taking the time to review Orchard Gardens. I can't raise Orchard Gardens highly enough. I was so daunted at the start of my process to find my mother residential care, but the staff have been amazing, supporting Mum and myself. Never too busy to listen and answer our concerns. The rooms are beautiful and the programme of activities varied and

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.861)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.861) out of 10 for Orchard Gardens is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.861 for Orchard Gardens is calculated as follows: ( (382 Excellents x 5) + (51 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 438 Ratings = 4.861
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Orchard Gardens is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Sabrina Buxey

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2023

I am a dedicated and compassionate care professional with over 17 years of experience across a wide range of care settings, including learning disabilities, mental health, end-of-life care, and elderly care. Throughout my career, I have remained firmly committed to delivering person-centred, dignified, and high-quality care.

I have been with Anchor for the past eighteen months and take great pride in working for an organisation whose values align with my own. As a Home Manager, I am passionate about creating a supportive, inclusive, and nurturing environment for both residents and staff. I lead by example, promoting a culture of empathy, respect, and continuous improvement.

I believe that a well-supported and valued staff team is the foundation of excellent care. When staff feel appreciated and empowered, it reflects in the quality of care they provide—happy staff lead to happy residents and a thriving service. I am committed to ensuring my team feels equipped, motivated, and involved in achieving shared goals.

Compliance is also one of my key priorities. I am focused on maintaining high standards, meeting regulatory requirements, and continuously improving our practices to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and satisfaction of everyone in our care.

Central to my approach is the promotion of independence and the creation of meaningful experiences. I actively involve residents’ families and friends in their care journey, building strong partnerships that foster trust, engagement, and a true sense of belonging. My goal is to ensure every individual in our home feels safe, valued, and empowered to live life to the fullest.

Tiago Fernandes

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2022

My name is Tiago Fernandes, originally from Portugal and moved to the UK 10 years ago to pursue a meaningful career in care. I hold a bachelor’s degree in educational sciences, which I completed in Portugal, followed by six months of study in France. My passion has always been centred around helping others and making a positive difference in people’s lives.

When I arrived in the UK, I began working as a support worker in a residential home for adults with learning disabilities. I later moved into supported living services, where I supported individuals with complex needs and challenging behaviours. During that time, I took on a leadership role, working closely with the team to create a safe and supportive environment where everyone could thrive and reach their daily goals.

My journey then led me to join Anchor as a care assistant. Within a year, I progressed to team leader, and I now proudly serve as Deputy Manager. Throughout this journey, my focus has remained the same: delivering high-quality, person-centred care, supporting my team, and ensuring that each resident feels valued, respected, and cared for.
I believe in a positive and proactive approach to care—one that promotes independence, dignity, and joy every single day.
