Now that I have visited the care home frequently, I feel the relationship with the staff is friendly, helpful and considerate. The grounds are lovely to walk in, and this helps the mental health and physical mobility of the residents to use them daily with support. More physical activities may be needed
by younger residents. Everyone is very kind and supportive of the care of the residents. However, some extra support may be needed for residents who find the hours long and not able to read or participate with the weekly activities or use a TV. It is a well-run home with a sound and considerate management and caring team.

Overall, I think this is a lovely care home and I feel confident my father, and previously my mother too, is cared for kindly and safely. The main issue is the lack of consistency of night staff. Many new faces and unfortunately, with the needs of my father, has at times been unsettling. Another issue
is the occasional lack of communication from management. The example I would give is a lack of response over many weeks about when/if a dentist might visit. But at times management has responded very promptly and efficiently.
Reply from Shelley Young, Manager at Orchard GardensThank you for taking the time to review Orchard Gardens and we are pleased you rate our care/support as very good. We appreciate your kind feedback regarding our home. We aim to keep our team consistent but may introduce new colleagues to ensure that we can continue to provide a high standard of care to all our residents. We operate an open door policy for feedback where possible and we are happy to discuss any aspect of our care at a mutually convenient time.

We never wanted out relative to go into a home but circumstances gave us no choice. Orchard Care Home have been great and taken such good care we feel confident that she's here. It is very expensive but that can't be helped.

After 5-years in Orchard Gardens, my mother became very ill and required end of life care. The care team continued to provide excellent care as they had throughout her stay and showed a real warmth with her. They also looked after me, making sure that I could stay in a room near Mum, ate meals with
her, have regular teas and coffees etc. The meals were really excellent.
The team were fantastic when we really needed them. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

My husband and I had a lovely conversation with Mum this evening; she sounded happy and content.
She has been at Orchard Gardens since February, and she appears to have settled well.
On our regular visits, she is well cared for and always cheerful. The staff are very helpful, and it is so nice to
see photos of her joining in with the other residents. It is very reassuring knowing she is safe particularly at night.

Mum suddenly became unwell in May last year, she was diagnosed with mixed picture dementia. Mum was unable to safely stay in her own home and live alone anymore. Mum felt lonely, isolated, worried for her own safety and frustrated. Orchard Gardens was our first choice and they welcomed us from our initial
enquiry. Mum moved into Orchard Gardens almost four weeks ago, the manager and her staff have been amazing. Mum tells us she should’ve moved here years ago! She is happy and is thriving on the social interaction with other residents and all of the lovely staff. Mum is clean, tidy and is eating and drinking regularly, she especially loves the puddings! All staff are approachable, helpful and can’t do enough to support mum and us. We love seeing the photos of her participating in the daily activities with her new friends. Thank you so much to all of the Orchard Gardens team.

Not met any staff member I don’t like, all are caring, kind and considerate to my needs. Helpful and thoughtful from management to housekeeping. Food is good but sometimes not to my taste. Beautifully clean home, great reassurance to have care 24-hours a day.

My mum went into Orchard Gardens in the middle of the Covid-19 lockdown and for us it was a very worrying time. The manager and staff at the home were very reassuring and I trusted she would be OK. My mum has vascular dementia and it wasn't safe for her to be at home any longer. When my mum entered
the home she was quite poorly and very confused. But I would like to say it was the best thing I could have done for my mum, the staff have been absolutely amazing! So kind and friendly. My mum is a completely different lady, she's settled in so well and she's so happy, clean, very safe and looks healthy again. I would highly recommend Orchard Gardens and would like to say thank you to all the carers and everyone that works there. I can be my mum's daughter again, not her carer and that's priceless to me. Many thanks.

Mum arrived at Orchard Gardens in January 2019 very confused and distressed. The patience and care provided by all the staff enabled her to gradually settle into her new surroundings. For her family, it has provided peace of mind knowing Mum is now safe, happy and treated with respect.

We have been so impressed with the care and support provided to my father-in-law since he joined Orchard Gardens in May this year. Staff are wonderful! They always have time to talk to family and provided day-to-day information concerning the well being of residents. Due to their care, we have seen
great improvements in appearance, eating habits and mobility. We didn't think we would see my father-in-law walking with a frame again which demonstrates their high expectations for residents.
We know that anytime, day or night, his need's are being met and that staff have time to support him emotionally during difficult times which will inevitably arise. Really comforting for the family
The home is maintained to a really high standard and security is great.
We can't thank the staff enough and would recommend Orchard Garden with no hesitation.

My father was able to spend the last days of his life at Orchard Gardens. He was treated with total compassion and dignity, as is my mother who is also a resident and has advanced Alzheimer's. Being a resident of Bishopstoke Park, it was my father's wish to return home from hospital to be with the people
who cared about him. The management and staff went above and beyond at a very difficult time and were hugely supportive to the whole family. My mother still receives excellent care and support.

My father spent his last two weeks in Orchard Gardens before he passed away. The care and compassion he received from all the staff was without exception outstanding. The whole team were incredibly supportive and caring not just to Dad, but also to us, his family. We know that Dad was incredibly grateful
to be in your care and as his family, we couldn't have asked for more and will be eternally grateful for the care, compassion and friendship he received in his final days.
My mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's is also a resident at Orchard Gardens and it was of great comfort to both Dad and her family to know and see how happy and settled she is there. When your parents have to go into care you are placing incredible trust in the whole care team to ensure they receive the care that they both need and deserve and that they are treated with compassion and respect and it is so reassuring to know that Orchard Gardens provides this.

Mum has been treated with respect and kindness and the care staff and Managers went out of their way to build mum's confidence. Mum has had a fall recently, when she arrived she was anxious and worried, on leaving the care home finishing her respite she is a different person, less anxious and worried,
this can only be down to the care she received. I cannot thank the senior managers enough, they went out of her way to ensure mum's stay was comfortable and safe.
Thank you so much.

My Mum was very frail and poorly after a long stay in hospital. The staff cared for her and got to know her as a person. They worked with me to find ways to bring some of her previous normal routines into her daily life at Orchard Gardens. I feel like we made the best possible choice for Mum to bring
her comfort and security in her last few weeks.

Finding the right care home for a vulnerable relative is really difficult. From the moment we first visited Orchard Gardens, we were truly taken aback by the place, the environment and most importantly, the fantastic staff who we met.

From that moment on, it has carried on delivering fantastic care

and support to both my relative and to us as a worried daughter and son-in-law. The staff are always friendly and polite, and there is always someone available to answer our questions if we have any queries.

The bedrooms are all ensuite and very comfortable, and there is always a very varied food offering that changes every day. There are activities that the residents can get involved in should they wish.

I have to summarise by saying, Orchard Gardens has given us great peace of mind, that our relative is being looked after and cared for 24/7, and that is a great relief to us. Thank you to you all!

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.861)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.861) out of 10 for Orchard Gardens is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.861 for Orchard Gardens is calculated as follows: ( (382 Excellents x 5) + (51 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 438 Ratings = 4.861
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Orchard Gardens is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2023

I am a dedicated and compassionate care professional with over 17 years of experience across a wide range of care settings, including learning disabilities, mental health, end-of-life care, and elderly care. Throughout my career, I have remained firmly committed to delivering person-centred, dignified, and high-quality care.

I have been with Anchor for the past eighteen months and take great pride in working for an organisation whose values align with my own. As a Home Manager, I am passionate about creating a supportive, inclusive, and nurturing environment for both residents and staff. I lead by example, promoting a culture of empathy, respect, and continuous improvement.

I believe that a well-supported and valued staff team is the foundation of excellent care. When staff feel appreciated and empowered, it reflects in the quality of care they provide—happy staff lead to happy residents and a thriving service. I am committed to ensuring my team feels equipped, motivated, and involved in achieving shared goals.

Compliance is also one of my key priorities. I am focused on maintaining high standards, meeting regulatory requirements, and continuously improving our practices to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and satisfaction of everyone in our care.

Central to my approach is the promotion of independence and the creation of meaningful experiences. I actively involve residents’ families and friends in their care journey, building strong partnerships that foster trust, engagement, and a true sense of belonging. My goal is to ensure every individual in our home feels safe, valued, and empowered to live life to the fullest.

Tiago Fernandes

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2022

My name is Tiago Fernandes, originally from Portugal and moved to the UK 10 years ago to pursue a meaningful career in care. I hold a bachelor’s degree in educational sciences, which I completed in Portugal, followed by six months of study in France. My passion has always been centred around helping others and making a positive difference in people’s lives.

When I arrived in the UK, I began working as a support worker in a residential home for adults with learning disabilities. I later moved into supported living services, where I supported individuals with complex needs and challenging behaviours. During that time, I took on a leadership role, working closely with the team to create a safe and supportive environment where everyone could thrive and reach their daily goals.

My journey then led me to join Anchor as a care assistant. Within a year, I progressed to team leader, and I now proudly serve as Deputy Manager. Throughout this journey, my focus has remained the same: delivering high-quality, person-centred care, supporting my team, and ensuring that each resident feels valued, respected, and cared for.
I believe in a positive and proactive approach to care—one that promotes independence, dignity, and joy every single day.
