Since my uncle moved into Parklands for special care, I have nothing but praise for them. As he went in just as Covid started. Visits have been few and far between, but on each visit, he has looked very well and very happy. I was greatly impressed when we were able to have a look around before restrictions
set in. When phoning up staff are very helpful and pleasant, also very professional
Reply from Fran Lally, Lodge Manager at Parklands Thank you for your kind words. It will be nice to give this feedback to the team and I will look forward to positive events this year now we are open to visits and providing more normality for residents and families.

Mum moved into Parklands Lodge after some time in care with other providers, she seems to have settled in really well thanks to the support, help and assistance provided by the manager and her staff team. Not only has mum commented that the staff are really nice and pleasant with her but it’s also the
first time mum hasn’t complained about anything or anyone whilst receiving care which in itself is incredible. She is obviously receiving quality care and attention as this is evident with her appearance and how she is presented, her mood has improved, her anxieties have reduced and is much more settled in herself. Mum tells us that she now feels safe and is able to relax. As a family, we are really grateful for this, and I would like to say thank you to the manager and her team at Parklands Lodge for enabling mum to feel safe and helping in reducing her anxieties. Thank you.
Reply from Fran Lally, Lodge Manager at Parklands It is pleasing to know that your mum has conveyed to you how safe, happy, and settled she feels after moving into our care and that you can see that happy change in her mood, appearance, and the reduction of her former anxieties. No finer compliments could be received by the Parklands team from you and on your mum’s behalf. And we thank you for placing your trust in the quality of our care.

We are full of praise for the manager and staff at Parklands Lodge. My elderly father was in need of end-of-life nursing care. The manager went beyond the call of duty to carry out an assessment and organise his move into the home while she was on leave. The welcome we got was first class. Staff were
extremely friendly, welcoming and cared for my father with love, respect and dignity. Safety of residents and staff is a high priority for the home so testing procedures and the use of PPE for visitors is strictly adhered to and well-managed. We were so grateful to be able to spend the last few days at my father’s bedside. Staff were so caring and thoughtful and we really appreciate the support and love we have received from everyone. The building is modern, spotlessly clean, bright and airy. My husband’s late father spent many happy months as a dementia resident four years ago. We would have no hesitation in recommending Parklands Lodge and the great team that they have. Thank you.
Reply from Fran Lally, Lodge Manager at Parklands We reiterate our heartfelt condolences to you and your Father’s wider family. It is nice to know how much the care provided by the Team at Parklands is appreciated. Again, we thank you for your recognition of our dedication to respect and dignity, this is paramount in our care. The quality of End-of-life care is something that requires a passionate team which I am proud to say we have at Parklands. At some point we must all face this journey and my team, and I endeavour to make it as comfortable and as family orientated as possible for your loved one.
Thank you for the wonderful compliments to the staff and myself. I do share reviews in staff meetings, and they are gratefully received as the best thank you that a family can provide to all the Parklands Team. Finally, we wish you and your family a happy future as well as sharing between you the many fond memories you have of your Father.

My Uncle moved to Parklands Lodge in August this year, after about 6 weeks in hospital.
He has Alzheimer's and was declining quickly in hospital, but now he's moved to Parklands, he has got his appetite back, is able to walk around the garden and improved in every way. The staff are friendly and considerate
of my Uncle. It is easy to set up visits for family members. The manager was very helpful in enabling his transfer from hospital.
The care home have been very careful about Covid infection prevention, and we have to test ourselves, fill in a form and meet in a secure room, or in the lovely garden they have. Because of the regulations, I haven't been able to look around other parts of the home, so my review of some aspects is incomplete, but I am still generally impressed.
Reply from Fran Lally, Lodge Manager at Parklands Thank you for your kind words. All our staff work as a team providing the best care for your loved one. I am pleased your Uncle has settled well and we are in agreement that he has improved significantly with the encouragement of our nursing and care team. We are proud of our vigilance regarding infection control, and it is nice to read your appreciation of the safety measures in place and it was lovely to hear you enjoyed a visit with your Uncle. It is nice to see Residents enjoying time with their families now that visiting restrictions have eased somewhat and rest assured, we will continue providing quality care to maintain your Uncle’s happiness.

During Covid, Parklands Lodge management and carers have looked after my mum impeccably. Although it has been upsetting as mum's daughter not to see mum for long or inside her environment, we understand the steps put in place to protect both of us. The manager has shown excellent skills in all aspects
of the home, she is very approachable too, she helps with our concerns and solves most problems we have.
Reply from Susan Derby, Business Development Manager at Parklands Thank you for your lovely review. The whole team at Parklands have been a wonderful support through these difficult times. Our staff are especially chosen for their skills and compassion which has been so evident during lockdown. Rest assured, the care and kindness will stay in place. All of our residents are safe and secure. Thanks again and I will let the staff know.

Our experiences of Parklands Lodge, both pre and post lockdown, have been excellent. Dad has been a resident for almost 2 years, he was very poorly when he arrived but with great care from the staff, he has recovered and is enjoying life again. The food is good, the staff are amazing - all of them,
carers, nurses, activities, cleaners, kitchen staff and admin. Dad says he feels very safe and very well looked after which is very reassuring to hear in these difficult times.
Reply from Susan Derby, Business Development Manager at Parklands We are so happy that you are pleased with your Father’s care and the progress this has made to his health and well being. The priority of Athena is that our residents are safe and secure, it is their home and they are treated with the dignity and respect we would expect for ourselves. All the team would like to thank you for your very kind words. Take care.

My dad has been a resident for just under 2 years. He is happy and well cared for. Activities are good (especially before lockdown). Indeed my dad has thrived in Parklands. The food is varied and of a good standard. The dessert trolley is very tempting. The staff are caring, helpful, friendly and welcoming.
Residents are treated with respect and dignity.
Reply from Susan Derby, Business Development Manager at Parklands We are so delighted that you are pleased with the care and love we give our residents. As you mentioned the activities and fun is outstanding and has carried on during these difficult times. It is hard to get that balance right with families and friends, but we hope that the communication is two way. Indeed the food is varied, bountiful and good quality. Thank you again for your lovely comments and that you rest assured that dad is indeed in the “right” place.

My mother went to live at Parklands just before lockdown after spending three months in hospital following a severe stroke, that has left her with significant nursing care needs. This meant that we had very little time (four days) to ensure she was settled before we were no longer able to visit.
During
those initial four days, it was apparent that Parklands were planning and putting significant practical workable policies in place to manage the Coronavirus threat. This along with the warm personal welcome both my Mum and ourselves received under very difficult circumstances gave me confidence that my Mum would be well cared for. The atmosphere in the home appeared caring, relaxed and happy.
During the lockdown, Parklands have kept in touch with ourselves with phone calls and Facebook pictures of my Mum. They regularly post pictures on Facebook of the activities that the residents are taking part in, which look engaging and appropriate.
Reply from Diane Ellis, Registered Manager at Parklands Thank you for your kind words. The staff have worked hard to ensure family’s have some contact with their relatives through technology. Hopefully it won’t be long until you can see your mum again

It is noticeable that you have asked for us to comment when we have not been able to enter the premises for 3 months, makes me suspicious. However, given that my father has been a resident for two and a half years I feel I can comment. The most noticeable asset the home has its staff, they are nothing
but brilliant there are two staff members that I know my father has a special regard for, I know when they are not working as my father is in a different mood and also noticeable now that one of them is off sick. I have regularly requested fresh cool bottled water as the tap water on my father's floor (Treetops) is not nice to drink, but none has yet to appear, I don`t see why we should be paying significant amounts of money each month and be denied a basic necessity as cool drinkable drinking water.
I am sure that none of these comments will be acted upon as comments from regular meetings don't glean any results but here goes, again.
Reply from Diane Ellis, Registered manager at Parklands Thank you for your response. I have asked for reviews from relatives as I am the new manager and wanted to know how relatives feel about the home. Sorry if it made you feel suspicious. I will action your point about drinkable water for the floors. I have spoken to the kitchen and asked them to purchase bottled water on a weekly basis for use by the residents.

I would just like to say to the staff at Parklands Lodge, a very big thank you for taking excellent care of my father.
It is especially heartwarming to see photographs and video of all the activities the residents take part in with the encouragement and participation of the staff.
I live in the
other side of the world with my family, so it has been wonderful to chat and see my father, and for him to see his granddaughters on a weekly basis via a video link. A massive thanks to (you know who you are!) and the lifestyle staff. I also just had a live video tour of the premises, including seeing all the wonderful artworks gathered for the weekly 'Art' event.
The lodge is very modern and clean with lovely furniture and views to gardens through large windows. I know my father is being looked after by the best staff, everyone from reception to kitchen and cleaning look like they enjoy working there, and that is reflected in the photographs and videos I see on social media almost daily. Excellent work!

Staff are very helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
We know mum is being well cared for in a safe environment.
Very clean throughout.
Bedroom and lounge area comfortable and nicely furnished.
Very reassuring for us, knowing mum is treated with respect and dignity and the staff have
her best interests at heart.
We never wanted mum to go into a home but feel this home is the best for her and she's settling in well.
I'd definitely have no hesitation in recommending the home to anyone.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.460)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.460) out of 10 for Parklands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.706 for Parklands is calculated as follows: ( (121 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 153 Ratings = 4.706
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.754 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Parklands is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14. 13 Positive Reviews ÷ 14 = 0.929
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
