From the moment I walked through the door I knew that Parsons Grange was the right place for my m. There are many criteria when searching for somewhere for your loved one to be cared for and all the boxes were ticked at Parsons Grange. My first impression was that it was a place where the staff really
cared about everyone entrusted to their care and went the extra mile whenever any of the residents needed extra support required with. My Mother spent her last 15 months at Parsons Grange and my first impression was confirmed daily - couldn’t have asked for anything more. Every stage of her condition was dealt with in an appropriate and compassionate way - Mum was happy to be there.
Additionally, it wasn’t just the way that my Mum was cared for. It was also about how relatives were welcomed, and involved in the community, events and activities. The compassion shown to us throughout such difficult times was over and above what we could ever expected and still continues after she passed.
Thank you.

Mum went to Parsons Grange from rehabilitation in Dec 2022 and stayed until Feb 2024. All staff were welcoming, kind and considerate. The first time I met the customer relations manager, I knew that Mum would settle well, and she did everything to make sure Mum was looked after well. Any queries were
dealt with quickly and we had no concerns. We have been blessed for her to be in such a lovely place as a long respite/resident. Mum got on well with all the staff and as a family, we felt that all the staff were genuine and really enjoyed having my mum as a resident. Mum enjoyed some of the social events such as musical movements and bingo. As well as treating Mum well, as a family we also welcomed in to join in all activities, mealtimes and social events. Mum was able to have lots of visitors and all were made welcome. When Mum left to return to her home, the staff and residents were genuinely sad to see her go and I know that they will miss her, just as she misses them.

Mum has been at Parsons Grange for over a year, all staff are helpful and friendly both to my Mum and all the family.
There are regular outings, BBQ events, animals visiting, singers and entertainment, all of which help with my mum's condition and make her happy.
The home has a family feel and very
welcoming. We would recommend Parsons Grange, Care Home.

When looking for a care home for our aunt, my brother and I weren’t sure what to expect, never having had to go down this road before and with all the horror stories we’d heard. But as soon as we walked into Parsons Grange and were welcomed by the receptionist we knew it was going to be a good experience,
just by the feel of the place and the calmness around. All the staff were so caring and friendly, all with a smile and such genuine kindness. They were like a family and our aunt soon felt part of it. It was great that there were such varied activities, including creative sessions and trips out. Our aunt is very sociable and likes to enjoy and contribute as much as she can. For the few months our aunt stayed at Parsons we knew she was being well looked after, which gave us peace of mind knowing she was in the right place.
Reply from Reviews Team, Reviews Team at Parsons GrangeThank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely positive review, our whole team here at Parsons Grange takes huge pride in setting exceptionally high standards of care, cleanliness, and person-centered activities. We are so pleased that your Aunt's experience was positive. It was wonderful seeing you all on your recent visit everyone was so happy to see you all. We look forward to you visiting again.

Parsons Grange is the first care home I had visited, and immediately, walking through the door, I was impressed. The feel is more of a modern health club than a care home. But image and looks are nothing without care and compassion, and I cannot imagine anywhere surpassing these core values that are
shown at PG. All the staff are there because they care, not because it is a job. The family atmosphere created, and the way the residents are integrated into the ‘family’ of Parsons Grange could not be improved. I would have no hesitation in recommending Parsons Grange as a ‘home,’ in the truest sense of the word, where a loved one would be safe, secure, and above all loved as a valued member of the Parsons Grange community.

Today I visited a family friend for the first time who recently moved into this care home. I was most impressed with the facilities and cleanliness of the home. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The opportunity to have coffee and delicious homemade cakes in your cafe was a real plus.

Our dad received the most wonderful care at Parsons Grange and we will forever be indebted to every one of the amazing team who looked after him with such kindness, compassion and expertise. From the moment we met the Customer Relationship Manager and saw the quality of people and care first-hand, we
knew that it was the perfect home for him to live out his final time with terminal cancer. Across the excellent management team and all the exceptional carers, cleaners and chefs, everyone shares the highest professional standards with huge amounts of empathy and understanding. Our visits were always a positive experience as we were able to spend truly quality time with him in his lovely room and make the most of the excellent facilities, social spaces and gardens. We are so grateful to everyone who gave Dad such special care and kindness and would highly recommend Parsons Grange to anyone looking for the best possible home for their loved one.

Mum came to Parsons Grange in July 2022 as she could no longer care for herself at home with her lack of mobility and advancing dementia. From the first contact with the customer relations manager, who was extremely caring, understanding and helpful at a very difficult time, we felt confident and at
ease that Mum would receive the best care for her needs. Mum settled in quickly and enjoyed the activities and attention she received from the lifestyle team, who go above and beyond to ensure that everybody can join in regardless of ability. The carers were very patient with Mum, caring and nothing was too much trouble. The nursing team were exceptional, especially after a second stroke left Mum with loss of sight. They were there for her every need and also supported us through a very difficult time. The catering staff and housekeeping are amazing, any special requests were dealt with promptly. We cannot thank you all enough for the support you gave Mum and us and we will miss you.

My mother came to Parson's Grange on December 2022 following increasingly bad health and a stroke that took her remaining independence and mobility away. The customer relations manager was exceptionally helpful and kind from the onset and throughout my mother's time there. All the staff there, from
the nurses and carers to those serving or preparing food, the social events team or those in reception, made my mother and us feel very welcome. But more than that they genuinely engaged with her, providing real care, compassion and warmth, with a great deal of laughter. The nursing care went above and beyond. She was exceptionally happy there and very fond of those who looked after her, or just popped in to say hello. The communication is very good, with regular calls and updates, and the ability to discuss anything at any time. I cannot thank the staff enough for everything. My sister and I shall miss you!

I have been involved with looking after a friend of the family for many years. Recently the decision was made for him to become a resident in a nursing care home as he had dementia and could not look after himself. We chose Parsons Grange after comprehensively looking at about 15 other homes. Parsons
Grange has been kind, sensitive, compassionate and professional in dealing with this person. He is happy and feels secure. Calling the staff his friends. I am delighted with the service. Parsons Grange has worked very hard with him and he is very happy. All anyone wants.

My father was with you in February following the passing of my mother. Unfortunately he was only able to spend a few weeks at Parsons before he passed.
In his short time with you he was very comfortable, the staff were extremely caring and especially our thanks go to one member of staff in particular
who looked after Dad daily and another member of staff with whom we dealt with. We were told that Dad had made quite an impression with the staff as he enjoyed a joke and they said he was a joy as he was quite the gent. They appeared genuinely upset about his passing. My wife and I and the grandchildren send our appreciation to all the staff for their attention that was given to Dad.
Obviously we wished for longer time with him but sadly COVID took him, the time he had with you at the home was comfortable and he was well looked after.
Thank you

Mum moved into Parsons Grange in May 2022. She had broken both hips and had Vascular dementia. We were really pleased that we had chosen this care home as the staff were all fantastic! The care team were very kind to Mum, and her care was excellent. The management team were hugely supportive and welcoming
to both Mum and the family. I was consulted on any changes or developments. The food was specially prepared for Mum, and the team managed to stop her from losing weight and even gain a little. They also worked really hard to get the sores she was admitted with to heal and to prevent her from getting any more.
Mum's room and the whole environment were lovely, and residents were encouraged to participate in activities. I can't thank the team enough for all their efforts with her right up to the end and the help and support provided to us.

All the staff were so good with Mum. She enjoyed her stay and was quite sad to leave. Management was so helpful and made booking Mum in a very easy process. She was taken out, which she enjoyed. They have said she can go back for lunch on a Wednesday, so that’s something for her to look forward to.
Would have no hesitation in putting Mum in again.

Our dad was moved to Parson's Grange in June. He suffers from severe Alzheimer's and Vascular dementia. All staff and management team have been brilliant, we can't thank the manager and the whole team for making Dad feel welcome and safe. It's a wonderful environment where everybody is made to feel
welcome. Dad has 1 to 1 care and his carer is amazing. She has helped to settle Dad and he's very happy. She has him playing ball outside when the weather is nice, which he really enjoys, she even had him dancing yesterday and he would not let her sit down for half an hour. It is fantastic and great to see him enjoying himself. She has truly gone above and beyond in her care of my dad.
The food that Dad gets every day is wonderful, they have an amazing chef, that produces 3-course meals at lunchtime and dinnertime. And of course, a full English for breakfast dad is in heaven.
I'd also like to thank all the staff on my dad's ward for their help and support.

The home is like a hotel! So beautiful, well looked after and clean. Thanks to the wonderful cleaners. Clothes are washed well and returned regularly. Thank you! Carers are fantastic. Nothing is too much for them. They are very friendly and engage well with residents, visitors and family members. I
visit my mum almost every day and I feel part of the Parsons Grange Family. The management team are excellent. Their door is always open, happy to help and again nothing is too much for them. Catering team are very friendly. Food is delicious and I look forward to having meals in the dining room with all the residents. Mum is so happy here and enjoys all the activities which are so well run by the wonderful activity ladies. Thank you to all at Parsons Grange for looking after Mum and being our extended family. My mother is 94 and until being a resident at Parsons Grange Care Home she lived at home with domiciliary care.
She was diagnosed with mixed dementia six years ago.
She had a bad fall which put her in hospital for five weeks, so when she was discharged she required much more support, hence Parsons
Grange.
Right from the outset she became a different person (for the good) primarily because she showered regularly and had physio in a comfortable environment.
Whilst in the early days she often packed to come home, she still, overall, seemed very happy and that was very evident when I visited regularly.
After a month or so, she would often thank me for finding such a lovely care home which is, believe me, credit indeed!
Dementia is a dreadful disease but I would recommend Parsons Grange to anyone primarily because of the caring staff, they were simply wonderful.

My father has been at Parsons Grange for a few months now and I have nothing but positive things to say about the people, the care, and the facilities. The staff (from cleaners, carers, management) are all friendly and work incredibly hard. Nothing is too much trouble. I visit almost daily and always
feel that when I leave my father is looked after even if he is a little tearful. The communication from Parsons Grange is also exceptional. Phone calls are always answered, emails always get a reply. I have made a few requests which have always been actioned in a timely manner. Cannot recommend highly enough! My husband came to Parsons Grange for respite care and will probably continue with a longer-term residence. Finding a good, residential care facility for my husband, who is living with dementia, was quite a difficult task for our family, both practically and emotionally! Parsons Grange seemed to offer
the kind of supportive care that we required. The care team are fully supportive of our family and my husband. They offer practical advice and tender loving care when needed too, for all the family and my husband. When we have questions, they are answered promptly.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.878)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.878) out of 10 for Parsons Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 86 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 86 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.878 for Parsons Grange is calculated as follows: ( (909 Excellents x 5) + (87 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 1014 Ratings = 4.878
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Parsons Grange is based on 86 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6, which has been reached with 86 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2022

I have over twenty years of experience working in older people’s care. My passion is caring for and supporting older people to be as independent as possible. I believe in involving residents in all decision-making so they can live each day in the way they wish.

My father was diagnosed with dementia, so I understand how hard-hit families can be after this diagnosis. We’re here to support loved ones to realise that it’s not the end and that it’s possible to live well with dementia. That’s exactly what we support residents to do. We ensure families are involved in care planning, and loved ones are welcome to be involved in their relative’s day-to-day care if they wish to be. We work in partnership with families, and everything we do is personalised to individual needs and wishes.

I’m so proud of the Parsons Grange team. They’re very responsive and supportive – both to me, each other, the residents and their families. Together we’re determined that Parsons Grange continues to be the best care home in Reading.
