I always feel welcome and understood, ie my needs as a carer! Home is a warm, comfortable, relaxed, well engaged and furnished. Nice pictures in communal areas. Lots of smiling staff around, all of whom seem to know my husband and to manage him well - better than I can! I feel I can ask for help and
guidance, can express how I see things.

Recent improvement in management is encouraging after a lengthy period of change which brought about a feeling of lack of confidence and support and low morale for the staff as a whole.
The nursing and care staff have been excellent in dealing with the many challenges of my husbands advancing Alzheimer's
illness and I am very grateful for the kindness and support I have received in the 2 1/2 years my husband has been resident in Woodland Manor.
The general atmosphere is welcoming in all respects.

The staff are extremely kind and treat my mother with the utmost respect. They are clearly very experienced and confident when working with mature dementia residents.
Communication with Woodlands has been excellent, the management are proactive at keeping the family involved and informed. As a family,
we are very pleased with the care and consideration given to my mother.
Woodlands is new, clean and fresh with excellent facilities and activities. It would be nicer if the beds were 3/4 size rather than single.
On the first visit, there was no one on reception - for security, we would rather have seen the desk manned.

My husband was a resident at Woodland Manor for over two years until he passed away in July 2018. While they did have staffing problems due to the lack of public transport locally, I found the care to be of the highest standard. With a new manager in place, I feel the home will see even more improvement.

Dad was extremely well looked after in his time at Woodland Manor. Staff were polite and attentive at all times and also made visitors very welcome. Perhaps a system to take residents for mini-walks (15 mins) outside daily could be considered? Thank you for taking such good care of Dad

To adhere to your Review Policy Content Standards all I will say is read the latest CQC report published April 24th 2018, it's a very true, clear picture of Woodland Manor Care Home. The only thing it doesn't tell you is the anguish some residents and their relatives are going through as Porthaven Care
Homes impose massive fee increases upon their residents. Some of whom have been forced to leave the place they thought was to be their home and others struggle as they fight to keep themselves or their loved one in a familiar environment.
There are some helpful, competent staff at Woodlands but with a permanent manager very rarely at Woodlands and Porthaven's management failing to be accountable this is now a very unhappy care home!

We are very happy with Woodland Manor, where my Mother has been well looked after in a warm and welcoming community. She has been given friendship and understanding by patient carers, and the nursing care team have always been excellent too. Wonderful garden/coffee bar to spend time in/see visitors.

My wife who suffers from Lewy Body Dementia has now been a resident of Woodland Manor Care Home for almost a year. In my opinion, the staff continue to be kind and attentive and truly caring in every respect. I am conscious that a recent CQC review of Woodland Manor has been far from satisfactory, but
I have to say that I have never found any of their adverse comments applicable to my wife's situation. Her overall treatment has always been such that I would never hesitate to recommend this Care Home to anyone requiring residential care and attention.

I have been impressed with the care and consideration that I have received during my respite stay after a foot operation. The cuisine has been excellent and the staff are so kind and willing to go the extra mile. I was so pleased over Easter that church services were included. I loved the cinema and
activities.
The cleanliness was exceptional and much appreciated. I feel stronger and more positive. Thank you to all concerned.

From what I observed, both the accommodation and care were just what my mother required for respite after her operation.
Our only concern was my mother contracted a chest infection while being cared for and was very poorly. She was given antibiotics, however, she said she was not seen by a doctor but
a nurse. This chest infection persisted and has required stronger antibiotics and has still not cleared up.

From the moment mum walked into Woodland Manor for her initial visit, she has experienced nothing but dignity, thoughtfulness and efficiency. Having been in residence for 4 months, she has become more animated, mobile and content.
Every aspect of her care is exceptional, admin, food, personal care,
entertainment, housekeeping - nothing is too much trouble and she is very happy and therefore so are we. Thank you.

Woodland Manor has been wonderful for me. It has got me to my feet after a fall and a period in hospital and has encouraged me in every way.
The care and patience of this often very hard-pushed staff is incredible.
For cleanliness, my bathroom has been kept spotless but my room has not received much
attention!
It is the kindness and attention which will remain with me always.

All members of the staff are consistently polite, cheerful and welcoming at all times. My father would have liked the meals to be served at a higher temperature and reported that they were better towards the end of his stay. He also found that he was not warm enough in his bedroom. He felt like he was
"among friends" during his stay.

The level of customer care at Woodland Manor has been excellent. From the first meeting at the home with the client services manager and then the assessment for my dad (at home) with the deputy home manager, through to meeting the carers working on the Buckingham wing, the level of care and advice has
been superb.
My mother, brother and I are very grateful that the team have worked so hard to settle our dad into the home. He has settled very quickly - much quicker than we would have imagined. This is to the credit of the team.
It has been a very sad and difficult time for us as a family but the advice and guidance we have received has really helped us all adjust.
The level of attention that dad has received from everyone has been so heartening to see. The carers really take on dads personality and they have tailored the day to dad's needs and interests. Dad is happy with the home. He keeps telling us how friendly and helpful the staff are - he looks happy and tells us how much he enjoys the food, people and singing activities.
We would highly recommend Woodland Manor.

The care and attention my sister, who was suffering from cancer, received whilst at Woodland's Manor, vastly exceeded my expectations and could not be faulted.
She was treated as an individual with great dignity. The staff showed great professionalism at all times.
The nature of my sister's illness
prevented her leaving her room. However, the facilities appeared excellent and the welcome/concern extended to myself and family was greatly appreciated.

I do think that there is not enough time given between meals from lunch at 1pm to supper at 5pm. I would recommend that the time should be altered to 7pm from 5pm, when it would be easier to cope with having another meal and not eating too early.
Reply from Leigh Reid, Home Manager at Woodland Manor Care HomeThanks for taking the time to review our home and for rating the service excellent. I take on board your comments about meal times but would point out that these are the main dining times only. In addition to this, for those who prefer not to eat in the restaurant, we have a lighter bites menu available throughout the day and a 24-hour snack menu. Thank you again for your kind feedback. Warm regards, Leigh

A very caring environment, however, they need to vastly improve their activities schedule for residents. Overall, very happy with Woodland Manor for mum.

Woodland Manor provided several weeks of respite for my elderly mother, following some falls and a hospital admission which left her very unwell. The staff are very caring and friendly, and the nursing care good.
Mum's health and strength improved greatly, thanks to the staff and to the excellent
food. She enjoyed the activities provided and found the garden delightful. For the family, our anxieties about our mother have been taken away, and we can see she is happy.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.833)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.833) out of 10 for Woodland Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 44 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.833 for Woodland Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (444 Excellents x 5) + (69 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 522 Ratings = 4.833
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodland Manor Care Home is based on 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 44 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
