Overall the care home is good and Mum likes living there and taking part in the activities. Where I have given a rating of satisfactory it relates to the following:-

Facilities - The boiler/heating system is old and keeps failing frequently leaving residents with no heating or hot water and the

management do not appear to be addressing the issue properly but appear to be taking the "patching" up approach.

Care/Support - use of agency staff due to being short staffed - something the new management said was one of their top priorities they were going to address 18 months ago when they took over the care home.

Reply from Jane Hooren, Deputy Manager at Hampden House

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Were really pleased to hear that your mum enjoys living at the home and taking part in our activities it's always lovely to know when residents are happy and engaged. We would like to reassure you that weve recently had a brand-new boiler installed, which has resolved the previous issues with heating and hot water. We appreciate your patience while we worked toward a long-term solution.Regarding staffing, we acknowledge that the use of agency staff has been necessary at times. However, this remains a key focus for our management team, and we are continuing to make progress in building a stable and consistent team to ensure the highest quality of care and continuity for our residents.Your feedback is valuable to us, and were committed to providing the best possible environment for your mum and all our residents. Please dont hesitate to speak with a member of the management team if youd like to discuss anything further.

Mum was so well looked after by all the staff at Hampden House, who dealt with her needs with care and compassion. She loved looking out from her room onto the lovely gardens and my dad especially enjoyed his afternoon tea and cake when visiting her daily. I will always be grateful for the dignified
way she spent her last months. Thank you.

Mum was always cared for with dignity and respect. The gardens were beautifully kept with hanging baskets outside the windows. Mum enjoyed sitting in the gardens under her sun umbrella. Mum was able to be signed out and taken into Harrogate to local cafes and restaurants when relatives came if she wanted.
We felt really confident that we had chosen the right place for her.

From the first phone call to our last day, the staff and support we and my aunt received was excellent.
I lived four hours away and I was always comforted to know that my aunt was safe and supported at all times and I was kept up to speed with how she was, which was a great comfort to me.
I got to
know the staff really well and they knew who I was too. Overall experience was excellent.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. In what I know has been a difficult time with your aunt recently passing away. Your aunt was a wonderful character and a pleasure to look after and she will be missed by residents and staff. And thank you for your kind comments about how you felt staff supported you and your aunt and that she was safe here at Hampden House. And that you were kept updated if any concerns were raised about your aunt's health. And that your overall experience was excellent. It was always nice to see yourself as well when you visited. I will pass your kind comments on to the staff.

The most welcoming, hard-working and friendly team are here at Hampden House! My Granny was no longer safe living independently at home and now needs some assistance with everyday personal tasks along with some social engagement and companionship. Hampden House has delivered on all of the above and
she is settling well. The staff are so helpful and the rooms and laundry are kept to a high standard. I have been particularly impressed with the social engagement team and the activities that are on offer to my Granny should she choose to participate. Thank you all so much for your warm welcome and all you do to ensure our loved ones are safe and most of all happy in your care.

Overall satisfactory and apart from one day (Tuesday) the meals were good although limited choice. My room was a good size and clean on arrival but no cleaning of my room or ensuite was done during my week's stay. No activities or services were offered, I had to ask for everything. Most of the staff
were pleasant, polite and respectful. The person who helped me to have the one bath I had, was excellent. One person refused to wash my hair, saying that it was the hairdresser's job, but another did wash my hair later. I did mention a recliner chair, to ease leg pain but nothing was offered. The laundry service was good, though some items were lost.

Everything was quite good but certain staff were not trained to care or make beds.
Some staff were really thoughtful need heating night and morning.
I have sat cold, they bought me a blanket.
Worst things are the beds.
I am allergic to rubber and sweat every night.
Reply from Jane Hooren, General Manager at Hampden House

Hello. Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that you felt some staff were not trained to make a bed. We will look into this and ensure going forward that beds are made correctly. Our care team undertake a comprehensive induction and are supervised through this. We will review our processes. I was glad to see that on occasions when you felt cold you were provided with a blanket. In regard to our mattresses the outer cover is made from Polyurethane which is a plastic material, and not rubber. Had we been aware of your discomfort we could have supplied a mattress topper.

Having experience of several nursing homes over the past year, I was very relieved to find Hampden House. The home has a wonderful, welcoming family feel about it, and there is always some activity going on. The residents are treated with utmost respect and the staff seem happy and enjoy their work.

The quality of care provided for my mother who has complex needs has been exceptional. She is safe, comfortable and happy in her new home. Any concerns raised are dealt with immediately by the management who are approachable and have ensured my mother's needs have been met.
This is a wonderful care home which feels like home.

Excellent on all levels, from the point of assessment and assistance in encouraging the transfer from home to the care facility all the was through to support at the time of my father's passing. The humanity displayed at all times was unfailing, the care and dignity preferred was unstinting and made
the process more positive than I could have helped for.
