De La Cour House

Very small care home, constant staff shortages, no activities at all for residents, falls occurred due to lack of care and my grandmother being left to sleep on a chair with no alarm. Promised all the care in the world when visited this care home at start and received nothing. Fire doors being left
open during night when only one night staff on covering 2 floors. Think twice when looking into this care home for a family member. Thankfully my grandmother is away from it now or it could have been a different outcome. Staff haven't a clue about dementia don't have any understanding of it at all. Lots of agency staff in and out due to staff shortages. All the different stories that are told when an incident happens & We spoke to the manager several times about concerns and things never changed. They are left sitting in the lounge watching the same musical every day, only to be taking to the dining room for the same repetitve meals. AVOID!
Reply from Caroline McWilliams, Older People Services Manager at De La Cour House

Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry you are unhappy with your grandmother's care while she was with us. Our team were very fond of her and sorry when she had to move on. We want residents to feel safe, comfortable and well cared for. We have a robust inspection regime and are confident our team provides a good standard of care. De La Cour House is also inspected regularly by RQIA, the independent body responsible for monitoring health and social care services in NI. They carried out an unannounced inspection in Nov 24 and reported that "It was evident that staff promoted the dignity and well-being of residents and were knowledgeable and well trained to deliver safe and effective care. Residents said that living in the home was a good experience." All reports are on the RQIA website. Each resident's care is also reviewed annually by BHSCT. We value feedback and would like to better understand your experience. Please contact me on 028 9087 6000.

Marriott House

My review is the manager is not fit for her job. She doesn't communicate with family and friends regarding my aunt. I'm still waiting on a phone call from the manager of Marriott House to let me know why it is in lockdown. I was in a shop today day in Bellaghy and was told that there was a coronavirus
outbreak. This is not good enough for a family member to have to find out from a stranger. My review you are the manager, it's her job, and she doesn't communicate with family and friends.
Reply from Christine Ashfield, Marketing Communications Officer at Marriott House

Hello,
All of our residents designated next of kin, including those family members designated by your aunt as her next of kin, were immediately contacted by our team in relation to the situation at Marriott House. It is a matter for those designated next of kin as to how they choose to share that news with wider family and friends. We are sorry to hear that you are upset about how you found out about this, but we can only legally disclose information about residents to the people they have designated.

My sister is now a resident in Marriot House and it's such a relief knowing she is being looked after so well by so many genuinely caring staff, the greeting she got on arrival by so many happy and smiling faces was lovely to see.
A big thanks from my brother and me.

This is such a wonderful little place for my mum, with a 'home-from-home' feeling that is all down to a fantastic staff team who are highly skilled, dedicated and so caring. As a nurse myself, I am delighted that Mum is gently cared for and is safe and happy here. Our whole family have such peace of
mind that all Mum's needs are thought about - and we feel cared for too. Thank you so much to the manager and her amazing team. It means the world to us.

My uncle has landed on his feet in this care home.
Staff are very approachable, friendly and caring.
The building is very clean with spacious bedrooms.
It's more like being in a hotel setting rather than a care home.
