Visited the home for a day, and the atmosphere was calm, staff were joining in activities with clients playing ball games. Some clients were sat with management who welcomed them into their offices without hesitation. Home smelt and looked clean. Clients looked happy. No matter how busy the staff got
they always had time to stop and give the clients the attention they wanted.

What an amazing improvement this home has gone through. It’s now a well run and happy place for the residents. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that is looking at this home. The quality of the food has improved so much as has the decor. Keep up the good work.

My Mum was at Mont Calm for over a year. She had advanced dementia and diabetes. Covid allowed them to hide the appalling care she received, a chiropodist had never looked at her feet and it was only when I began making serious complaints did they get someone in. By this time the nails on her big toes
were over an inch long. Members of management became very confrontational and threatening. Visiting became very stressful and I was more and more worried for my Mum's safety. Even before the issues arose, the manager would hardly ever respond to my emails or calls and there was always some sort of excuse. The building itself is in a terrible condition with windows nailed shut to stop them falling out, toilet seats hanging off, rusty hoists in bathrooms, and paint and plaster hanging from walls and ceilings to name but a few. By the time my Mum left she had lost so much weight and looked so ill it was heart breaking. I would absolutely NOT recommend putting your loved ones in this home.

The differences that I have experienced this year, are many, many, and varied.
Firstly all but two of the staff and management were removed or resigned.
Then because of inadequate CQC reports, a whole group of things were improved upon - the quality of meals, choices of meals, activities.
House
redecorated with freshly painted bedroom walls too, residents requests - new flooring throughout, refurbished dining room.
But the biggest improvement will be the back garden, which is hoped to open next spring, with its access ramp.
Better than that I feel, is the way we are seen as one big happy family staff and residents.

I think Roxburgh House in Westgate is amazing, they take really good care of my brother. My brother is comfortable and very happy where he is and I can rest assured that he is receiving the best care from all the staff who are always friendly and polite, I love the way they encourage his independence
yet make sure he is safe and well, couldn't really ask for a better home.

Staff were understanding of my mum's needs. The room was comfortable. Mum was treated with utmost dignity and care. Although visiting was initially limited due to Covid, when Mum was towards the end of life, visiting was open.
We evidenced the best care during our time visiting at end of life. Staff
ensured Mum was as comfortable as she could be and also lovely with us.

Care home unable to provide chiropractor or hairdresser. The nurse is very difficult to arrange sometimes waiting 48 to 60 hours to attend. My father's finger and toenails have never been cut. Information from management has been non-existent. Moved rooms without being informed. Read garden is extremely
dangerous with corroded fire staircase not cordoned off and shed doors left open. Family fights for information. No straight answers. Each member of staff is inconsistent with answers.

My cousin is a long term resident at Roxburgh House and the care and compassion she receives from the staff are outstanding. The Manager and Deputy Manager are doing a first-class job at ensuring the residents are safe, well kept and happy. They are always professional and fully aware of their resident's
needs. They go above and beyond to consult with me regularly to ensure the family are fully informed about my cousin’s health and well-being. The Covid pandemic has been a very difficult time for everyone but I am confident the staff have followed Covid safe practice to keep the residents as safe as possible. I video call with my cousin weekly and can see she is so happy and content there and she speaks fondly of the Manager and Deputy Manager. I totally recommend Roxburgh House to anyone considering residential care for a loved one.

I cannot recommend Roxburgh House enough. The current manager and deputy manager are absolutely fantastic.
My cousin has the most thorough care plan which identifies all her health needs and up to date action plan for this.
I am kept updated by staff on what my cousin is doing/ how she is on a regular
basis.
My cousin has communication difficulties but staff work hard to ensure these additional needs are met.
I am very grateful for all the hard work staff at Roxburgh House do.

I wanted my dad to stay here because the manager took the time to talk to me and actively encouraged me to write his life story so they could better help him communicate and understand him. They take notice of and work around the needs of the individual to give everyone the best experience possible.
We can all wish our loved ones did not have to live in residential care, so it's a great relief when you know they are being well looked after. COVID restrictions have meant that I've only been able to see photos of his room, but hoping that will change very soon.
