Review of Clayton House Care Home from Philippa C (Niece of Resident) published on 8 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My aunt moved into Clayton House in March and the staff could not have been more helpful. There has been a major refurbishment of the facilities and it is now a beautiful, light and airy space with carefully thought out layouts and decorations.
All the staff I have encountered from management to care staff, admin support to laundry staff and medical staff have all been professional and welcoming.

Work is still ongoing and the staff are working extremely hard to deliver the vision for the benefit of their residents.

Please think very carefully before putting a loved on in the care of this carehome
I have submitted a formal complaint and had a reply
Mum was in the same clothes for three days
Mum and four others were stuck in the lift and three of the residents slept all night in the lounge only found out about this from another resident, apparently mum was happy about this so that's Ok
My thought on this is if there is a fire how would they get the residents down stairs, the reply in my complaint was they have evacuation chairs
But what I will never forgive is that mum went in a ambulance to hospital at 2.30 I got a phone call at 4.30 as they were apparently too busy to call me when I got to the hospital we were taken to the relatives room mum died a few days later
The day after I received a call to say mum was no longer a resident and the room needed clearing

Saw the manager and she never offered any condolences no compassion at all

Reply from Andrew Wood, Director at Clayton House Care Home

We are deeply sorry to read your thoughts on your and, most importantly, for the loss of your mum. Please accept our sincere condolences to you and your family. I am aware that the home has provided yourself with a full response to your complaint. In respect of the lift failure we acted on this...

When visiting today, the communal toilet was covered in faeces. My grandmother's sheet had dried faeces and food on it. Despite clear requests not to switch her personal mini fridge off it had been switched off yet again. She currently has a chest infection yet her bed had not been raised adequately to aid easier breathing

As a family we struggled when mum went into care but Abbey village and the staff have been great . It's tough seeing your loved one in a home but the staff have been lovely and the senior team are open and honest and encourage feedback on anything we are not happy with my mum has been there 6 months and has been offered lots of entertainment and is supported well . The staff make the difference here , person centred care is well practiced and the home do all they can to ensure my mum is looked after please ensure the team are recognised for the efforts they apply

Review of Clayton House Care Home from Cath B (Sister of Resident) published on 9 March 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience
Up to this month I have had nothing whatsoever dealings with care homes. These are just observations.
Rooms are drab, no pictures on the walls, no comfortable chairs.

My sister has declined while in - no motivation. Sitting on corridors does not encourage converstion with other residents, difficult for visitors. My sister was upset by a resident while sitting on corridor, a resident advised us, reported to carer, but didn't think taken seriously - this helped with her decline.

Review of Abbey Care Village from Barry W (Husband of Resident) published on 11 February 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

In general, impressions are good. The residents' common room (the lounge) is too small in size, more space is needed here. Regular health checks for residents done "face to face" examinations, not by video link. Meals ought to be prepared within their own kitchens using fresh ingredients. In conclusion, relatives' concerns need to be acted upon, this is not simply a P.R exercise. I welcome any dialogue or feedback.

Reply from Andrew Wood, Director at Abbey Care Village

Thank you for your review. Abbey Care Village has 4 lounges on our dementia unit and 2 on the residential. To clarify residents are visited by there GP in person not via link (I must add the home would not control this anyway it would be through NHS). Our meals are prepared and served by our...

All staff are really friendly and professional. My mum has never had a bad word to say about the Carer's. Staff are very quick to act if she needs a Dr or medical attention. They have lots of daily activities to keep them entertained and have a social media page where you can see this. I find the staff treat the residents like family. I recommend Abbey Care 100%

My friend of over 40 years resides at Aden House and what a wonderful place. We were apprehensive when choosing a home for our friend and she was originally for respite, I can proudly say that this is her forever home and she is extremely content at Aden House. The new manager has really made a difference and the home feels and looks like a home now. The staff take pride in what they do and the manager leads by example and is extremely approachable. I would definitely recommend.

My husband, diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2018, has been a resident at Aden House Care Home since December 2023. Aden House has a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. All staff are friendly, caring and hardworking. A big thank you to everyone who works at the Home for making what is a difficult time in our lives, a happy one. If you are looking at care homes, don't hesitate, take time and view Aden House.

Review of Clayton House Care Home from Ann D (Wife of Resident) published on 12 December 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

I was shown around the home by the manager and given a choice of 3 vacant rooms for my husband who could not make the visit as he was sleeping, having advanced cancer. I was impressed by the light airiness of the home, by the staff who all greeted me and were cheerful and the cleanliness. There was a choice of 3 lounges plus a conservatory and the residents or visitors could go out into the garden to sit on several benches/eating arrangements. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I was able to spend more time with my husband than I had at home, as I had to do everything there. I had no support being the sole carer. My husband cooperated better with Aden House staff and I felt from the outset he was in loving hands and in a loving atmosphere. The management and the nurse had a very good grasp of his complex medication regime and this gave me confidence that he would take the medication as prescribed which was not always the case at home.

We moved my father from another care home and I will say it has been the best decision. We wish we'd moved him here a lot earlier. The level of care is above and beyond what we could have hoped for. Thank you.

If I could give the home 0 then I would. My father went in for urgent respite care with a view to longer care as my mum was struggling to care at home. Every time I visited Dad he was sat in the lounge with other residents facing a wall rather than a TV despite the fact I repeatedly told staff he would be happier in his room listening to music. There was no stimulation or engagement offered at all. Care records showed the activities coordinator visited residents once in 10 days to give them sweets. Some of the staff were rude and unpleasant. He was dirty every time I visited with faeces on his hands and clothes. Staff said they couldn't clean him due to aggression. Care records did not once record staff going back and trying again when Dad got agitated by strangers trying to wash him in an unfamiliar environment. There were no de-escalation techniques or basic dementia communication. The home manager said she didn't know about my dad's 'behaviours' but my dad does not behave the way he did in that home when in the community. He was like a caged animal, unstimulated, ignored, and showed no care. They also put 'DNACPR' next to Dad's name when not discussed with me. He is 75.

Reply from Andrew Wood, Director at Abbey Care Village

Thank you for your review and we are sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with the care provided. I was reticent about my Mum being placed here but I needn't have worried. I have found the staff to be caring and kind. They have made a great difference to my Mum's life and I cannot begin to say how wonderful I think they all are. That included every member of the team.

This is the second time my husband has been in Aden Lodge and I feel comfortable with him being here, they have lots of things going on, and my husband sleeps a lot but sure he joins in. I know he is fed as he would say when I pick him up. The staff cares and I can tell when I pick him up. I have a seat when he is in the home and I don't see the food and drink but if asked they all say yes.
