The home is so friendly and all the staff are absolutely fantastic. Everyone is so caring to my mother who has Parkinson's. All other residents have made my mother very welcome and there are activities nearly every day for residents. I would recommend this home to anyone thinking of placing their loved
ones in a home for ongoing care.

Arrived at St. John's frazzled and worn out looking for respite care for 87 year old husband who had been discharged from the hospital with cracked hip. Immediately felt in the hands of sympathetic and competent and caring staff (Kelly and Paul). Homely, delightful environment. Great lay out. my husband
benefitted enormously during his stay. Would not hesitate to return and recommend to others.
Reply from Emma Bayne, General Manager at St John's HouseIt's wonderful to hear that you felt supported from the moment you arrived and that your husband benefited so much from his stay. The whole team will be truly touched by your kind words. We're glad the environment and care made such a difference during a stressful time, and we'd be honoured to welcome your husband back whenever you need us.

The experience with St. John's was excellent. As a large portion of my brother's family was in the USA and as such unable to visit, the home had to fill in for us which they did much better than we deserved. We were made to feel like we were part of the home family and we got great support while we
were there for his last days.
Staff members even attended his funeral which was heart warming.
Thankyou to everyone who was involved in his care.
Reply from Emma Bayne, General Manager at St John's HouseThank you for this touching review. It means a great deal to hear that you felt so supported and that you and your family were made to feel part of the St John's House community. Knowing the staff were able to be there for him-and for you-during such an important time is incredibly moving. Your kind words will mean a lot to everyone involved in his care.

My mum has been resident at The Mayfields for nearly 3 years now and we have found it to be a very caring place. It is very clean; the food is great; we are always made to feel welcome and there is a great programme of activities, plus the garden and courtyard are always lovely in the summer. I visit
very often, and at different time of the day and I always observe on high standard of care.

When my husband came to Lincoln House, he was lost and bewildered. He was soon made to feel welcomed by the many staff members and appears to have a happy and relaxed attitude around them. He has enjoyed the activities as best as possible, particularly the musical, all organised with so much energy
and enthusiasm.
Reply from Roxana Safta, General Manager at Lincoln House Care HomeThank you very very much for your kind review about your husband's experience at Lincoln House.
We understand how difficult the transition can be, so we are truly pleased to hear that he now feels welcomed, relaxed, and happy with our team. It's also wonderful to know he has been enjoying the activities, especially the musical sessions.
Your feedback means a great deal to us. Thank you for your trust and support.

The Mayfield has a wonderful caring homely ethos. The staff are welcoming, kind and always say hello. The residents have a range of activities planned each month. Rooms are always clean. My mother has received great care, nothing is too much trouble. I couldn't be happier with the care she is receiving.

Our close friend has recently become a resident at The Mayfields. The care he has received from all staff, including management, has been exemplary. Staff listened to his story and our thoughts and have gone over and beyond to make sure he is happy, settled and has a voice in his care. We are absolutely
delighted. An amazing residential care home. Thank you.

My mother spent just a few weeks at Lincoln House on end of life care. She was treated with love and care and utter respect. Every member of staff had a smile on their face and couldn't do more to help her, if she needed.
We absolutely loved it there, invited every day and every time I came away knowing

Mum has now bee;in St John's since May of this year. She had just turned 90. It was a massive wrench for her and very logistical for us with over 30 years of "stuff" to sort through. Mum's physical health was deteriorating even though she at the time didn't or didn't want to recognise this. From day
one until today there has always been the utmost constancy from each and every member of staff. How everyone remains cheerful and positive is beyond me. They are real angels. They must be. Mum has had rollercoaster emotions and health issues. Her respect has always been maintained. Paul, the care manager is one of the most outstanding individuals I have ever come across. Mum is treated royally, even when she does not deserve it. The environment is very comfortable and tasteful. The public areas are simply gorgeous. Mum questions some of the food but she is pescatarian and very fussy indeed so she has always questioned food wherever she has stayed. She enjoys a glass of wine most days. Fab.
Reply from Emma Bayne, General Manager at St John's HouseThank you so much for sharing such a thoughtful and heartfelt review. We know how significant a transition this has been for your mum and your family, and were truly grateful for the trust youve placed in us. It means a great deal to hear that our teams constancy, positivity, and care have made a difference during this time. We will be sure to pass along your kind words to Paul and the rest of the staff, who will be delighted to know their efforts are appreciated. Were glad your mum feels respected, comfortable, and able to enjoy the things she loves mostincluding her daily glass of wine.

I began visiting St John's house as a student on placement for my college course, where I was welcomed with nothing but kindness and open arms and taught what I needed to know. I enjoyed my time so much, that at the end of my course, I asked to continue as a volunteer with the wellbeing team. As I still
visit, the variety of the activities, and the lengths gone to ensure residents experiences are positive continue to impress me.

I have nothing but praise for The Mayfields. My wife, who has early onset Alzheimer's, is well cared for and looked after. I feel that I made an excellent choice. Everybody from the domestic staff to the manager are so friendly and welcoming and do their best to make my visits as comfortable as possible
and the staff always make time to speak to me and update me on my wife's condition and developments generally. The care staff in the dementia unit are all very compassionate and caring. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for them and they take everything in their stride. They are obviously dedicated and excellent with residents. In the 4 months I have been visiting I have seen little or no turnover of staff which is reassuring to me and particularly the residents. There are some agency staff at times which is understandable but they are also very good. The ambiance of the home is good and I am concentrating in this review on the care aspect as that is most important to me and my wife.

I volunteered in the wellbeing team. A good range of activities for the residents was provided, including personal 1 to 1 visits for those unable or unwilling to join in with the group activities. The care staff attended to the needs of the residents and treated them with dignity and respect. The housekeeping
team worked very hard to keep the home clean and looking smart. Everyone was very helpful when I needed to know something including the reception staff. The management and the maintenance team who fixed a fault I reported immediately.

Sadly, my mother-in-law passed away in hospital a couple of weeks ago. The staff at St John's were sensitive through a difficult time after she was admitted following a fall. We were kept informed as matters developed and when she was re admitted as an emergency. She was admitted to residential care
3 1/2 years ago with the prognosis that her advanced dementia meant a likely life span of just 2 years. In the event, the care and attention giving at St Johns meant she lived much longer. Her quality of life was greatly enhanced by the specialist dementia care including excellent entertainment and activities.
Reply from Emma Bayne, General Manager at St John's HouseThank you so much for your thoughtful message about your mother-in-law's time with us. We are deeply sorry for your loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. It was a privilege for all of us at St John's House to be part of her care and to get to know her over the past 3 years. Your kind words about our team, activities and specialist dementia care mean a great deal to us. We strive to make every day meaningful and comfortable for the people who live here, and it is reassuring to know that our efforts brought her quality of life and comfort. Please know that she will be remembered fondly by the staff who cared for her. We are grateful that you took the time to share your experience with us.

I have been visiting the care home for around 2 years on a weekly basis. I have always found the rooms to be clean and tidy. All of the staff/carers are wonderful and kind. They are so busy, I don't think they get as much time as they would like to spend quality time with the residents. In all the time
I have been visiting I have only I have only seen the garden used once. I think it would be beneficial for the residents to get out in the garden and the fresh air more often. Again, I think that's down to the lack of resources available.

Our beloved Mother has been in Lincoln House for 6 months now & overall we are very pleased with the care she is receiving.
There have been some staff changes & periods where the nursing & care staff have been under huge pressure, but generally they take great care of mum, ensuring her needs are met
& she is happy. The frequency & range of activities that a member of staff & the team put together are fantastic & Mum really enjoys taking part in whatever is going on.
The rooms & communal areas are a bit dated but they have just started a full refurb so I'm sure that by the time that is finished the Home will be a warm & welcoming place for both residents & visitors.
We will never get the level or care that we would give mum at home on a 1-to-1 basis, but that wasn't possible so Lincoln House was our next best option & we are happy with the way that they look after Mum, but more importantly she is happy there which is the top priority as far as we are concerned.
Reply from Helen Caul, Interim Manager at Lincoln House Care HomeThank you for your lovely feedback. We are currently refurbishing Lincoln House and will keep all relatives updated with the progression.Mum is happy and settled at Lincoln House and she is a pleasure to care for. The Paddocks

from S B (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 18 June 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
From start to finish the communication was appauling. Concerns raised verbally and then in writing were ignored, only when they were reported to CQC was any action taken. Bathing once every few weeks is considered OK, poor oral hygiene, urine bottles not emptied and left on bedside tables all day, urine
soaked sheets left on the bed and the duvet pulled over (no wonder the home has that urine smell throughout), regularly told by carers they are "short staffed". Regular medication errors. RESPECT form and paperwork going missing. No regular updates of accidents. Sensor equipment never used properly or working. Asking for a doctor for 3 weeks to no avail and he ended up in hospital. 6 months there 24 falls and only 5 were witnessed! Unexplained bruising. Residents shouting for water and staff ignoring them. The list is endless of the lack of care this service provides.
Being told by the manager they would call the new care provider to warn them about the family is an absolute disgrace!!
Reply from Viktor Zak, Operations Director at The PaddocksThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We deeply regret that the experience did not meet your expectations. We would like to point out that the review is not accurate and reflective of events, the context and circumstances. The resident was fully able to make their own decisions, and we respected their autonomy in line with our duty of care. While we understand the family's concerns, our approach was guided by the resident's rights and preferences. There are instances where family's expectations may be unrealistic e.g. reducing number of falls even further. We regret that we were unable to fully meet the family's expectations in this case.Written evidence was provided to CQC contradicting your claims above. Our commitment to continuous improvement remains steadfast, and we are dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable environment for all our residents. We are committed to ensuring that The Paddocks remains a place where residents receive the highest standard of care.
