I volunteered in the wellbeing team. A good range of activities for the residents was provided, including personal 1 to 1 visits for those unable or unwilling to join in with the group activities. The care staff attended to the needs of the residents and treated them with dignity and respect. The housekeeping
team worked very hard to keep the home clean and looking smart. Everyone was very helpful when I needed to know something including the reception staff. The management and the maintenance team who fixed a fault I reported immediately.

Sadly, my mother-in-law passed away in hospital a couple of weeks ago. The staff at St John's were sensitive through a difficult time after she was admitted following a fall. We were kept informed as matters developed and when she was re admitted as an emergency. She was admitted to residential care
3 1/2 years ago with the prognosis that her advanced dementia meant a likely life span of just 2 years. In the event, the care and attention giving at St Johns meant she lived much longer. Her quality of life was greatly enhanced by the specialist dementia care including excellent entertainment and activities.
Reply from Emma Bayne, General Manager at St John's House

Thank you so much for your thoughtful message about your mother-in-law's time with us. We are deeply sorry for your loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. It was a privilege for all of us at St John's House to be part of her care and to get to know her over the past 3 years. Your kind words about our team, activities and specialist dementia care mean a great deal to us. We strive to make every day meaningful and comfortable for the people who live here, and it is reassuring to know that our efforts brought her quality of life and comfort. Please know that she will be remembered fondly by the staff who cared for her. We are grateful that you took the time to share your experience with us.

We recently celebrated my uncle's 90th birthday. The help and support we received from the staff was amazing. It made the day extremely special. I am so grateful for their help. Since my uncle has been a resident, we have received such care, support and so much more. I know my uncle is safe and very
well cared for which gives me so much peace. A wonderful environment, such a lovely home.

I have been visiting the care home for around 2 years on a weekly basis. I have always found the rooms to be clean and tidy. All of the staff/carers are wonderful and kind. They are so busy, I don't think they get as much time as they would like to spend quality time with the residents. In all the time
I have been visiting I have only I have only seen the garden used once. I think it would be beneficial for the residents to get out in the garden and the fresh air more often. Again, I think that's down to the lack of resources available.

Our beloved Mother has been in Lincoln House for 6 months now & overall we are very pleased with the care she is receiving.
There have been some staff changes & periods where the nursing & care staff have been under huge pressure, but generally they take great care of mum, ensuring her needs are met
& she is happy. The frequency & range of activities that a member of staff & the team put together are fantastic & Mum really enjoys taking part in whatever is going on.
The rooms & communal areas are a bit dated but they have just started a full refurb so I'm sure that by the time that is finished the Home will be a warm & welcoming place for both residents & visitors.
We will never get the level or care that we would give mum at home on a 1-to-1 basis, but that wasn't possible so Lincoln House was our next best option & we are happy with the way that they look after Mum, but more importantly she is happy there which is the top priority as far as we are concerned.

From start to finish the communication was appauling. Concerns raised verbally and then in writing were ignored, only when they were reported to CQC was any action taken. Bathing once every few weeks is considered OK, poor oral hygiene, urine bottles not emptied and left on bedside tables all day, urine
soaked sheets left on the bed and the duvet pulled over (no wonder the home has that urine smell throughout), regularly told by carers they are "short staffed". Regular medication errors. RESPECT form and paperwork going missing. No regular updates of accidents. Sensor equipment never used properly or working. Asking for a doctor for 3 weeks to no avail and he ended up in hospital. 6 months there 24 falls and only 5 were witnessed! Unexplained bruising. Residents shouting for water and staff ignoring them. The list is endless of the lack of care this service provides.
Being told by the manager they would call the new care provider to warn them about the family is an absolute disgrace!!
Reply from Viktor Zak, Operations Director at The Paddocks

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We deeply regret that the experience did not meet your expectations. We would like to point out that the review is not accurate and reflective of events, the context and circumstances. The resident was fully able to make their own decisions, and we respected their autonomy in line with our duty of care. While we understand the family's concerns, our approach was guided by the resident's rights and preferences. There are instances where family's expectations may be unrealistic e.g. reducing number of falls even further. We regret that we were unable to fully meet the family's expectations in this case.Written evidence was provided to CQC contradicting your claims above. Our commitment to continuous improvement remains steadfast, and we are dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable environment for all our residents. We are committed to ensuring that The Paddocks remains a place where residents receive the highest standard of care.

We feel so lucky to have chosen this care home for my Nana.
From management , reception, kitchen, hosts to care staff, we have no complaints.
The minute we walk through the door, we are so welcomed by the staff, every single one of them. We feel like family.
The service, host and hostesses seem
hidden but they are golden to the home. Along with the cleaners and laundry.
The wellbeing team are a blessing in disguise.
I can't rate this home highly enough, if I could give them 1000 stars I would, 5 stars doesn't seem enough for the care, support and welcoming presence.
They've tended to my Nanas every need, no stone left unturned. I am so grateful to everyone that works at St John's for the attention and care my Nana has received. I recommend St Johns. Thank you all x

I became a resident at St Johns in order to recover from a hip replacement operation. The staffed showed complete professionalism at all times whilst retaining humanity and compassion. My father recently stayed at St Johns House for a 2 week respite, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. The level of care, support and consideration shown by the staff was outstanding. Every effort was made to ensure he was comfortable and well looked after, and the team consistently
went above and beyond.
The staff struck a perfect balance between professionalism and kindness. They were friendly, supportive, and genuinely caring in their approach. It was also heartwarming to see how welcoming both residents and staff were to our family whenever we visited.
The home itself is spacious with a great variety of rooms and communal areas to enjoy, including the lovely coffee room and the grand piano! It made a real difference to have such a well-thought-out and inviting environment.
Thank you to everyone at St Johns for the exceptional care you provided and we look forward to another visit soon.

I spent 2 weeks in St John's following knee replacement surgery. It was ideal for my needs following major surgery, just being cared for. The facilities in the home are excellent and the staff all friendly and helpful. They did not appear to have staffing issues although I was mainly independent. Food
was good, although I feel supper was too early at 4:45 is hard, a light meal with nothing else until breakfast some 15 hours later. The need for pain relief in a reasonable time from asking was sometimes frustrating and painful, especially at night. When offering these services maybe this should be addressed.
Reply from Emma Bayne, General Manager at St John's House

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are pleased to hear that you found the care, facilities, and staff at St John's House to be excellent and that your stay supported your recovery. Regarding your comments on pain relief, we understand how important timely medication is, especially post-surgery. Unfortunately, we must adhere to strict regulations around the storage and administration of controlled drugs, which can sometimes lead to unavoidable delays. We appreciate how frustrating this can be and will continue to review our processes to ensure the best possible experience for our residents. With regard to meal times, we recognise that an early supper may not suit everyone. A light menu is available 24 hours a day on request, we appreciate your feedback and we will make this clearer in our welcome guide. Thank you again for your valuable insights-we always strive to improve our services and appreciate your feedback. We hope you are continuing to recover well.

My parents had a very good experience at St John's House. The staff were amazing in every area from care and cleaners, to management and front of house. We were made to feel welcome and overall the care was excellent. An area which could be improved is the catering with slightly larger portions for
the evening meal. It would be nice for residents to eat communally more than once day. I would certainly recommend St. John's to other people needing a care home.
