Review from S E (Daughter of Resident) published on 26 June 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

The care for my mother was and is exceptional, staff have worked tirelessly to improve her mental and physical state to good effect. She is now back on her feet and is enjoying her time again. Her room is always clean and tidy even if the odd item that does not belong to her ends up squirrelled away in her cupboards. But I fear that is more to do with my mother mistaking items to be hers rather than the rightful owner.

My mother in law has been in here over a year now and she is extremely well looked after. The staff are caring and kind. This home is comfortable and well run. Lots of different activities. Even when my mother in law is unwell the staff respond quickly, liaise with the doctors surgery and inform us promptly. The garden and the main reception area are a great asset.

Overall Experience

My mother is extremely well looked after both physically and mentally by some wonderful staff who really care. The entire staff (carers, entertainment, kitchen staff, cleaners, management and handymen) are all really friendly to both residents and visitors.Residents are treated like a member of family by many of the carers and they really do go the extra mile with them. I had visited 3 other homes before attending Sir Aubrey Ward but this was the one where all of the staff were making the effort to be cheerful and helpful to everybody. It was the deciding factor for me in choosing where my mother would be best cared for.The residents rooms were the largest I'd seen at any of the homes and I was impressed with the meals, cakes and desserts provided which are prepared fresh each day by the kitchen staff from scratch.Much better than the microwave meals full of salt and preservatives that my mother had been eating previously. The home strives for continuous improvement always.

Whenever I visit it always seems understaffed. Room is grubby, had to sweep floor today. Kitchen is always grubby at weekends and floor sticky. Food is unappetising- tinned soup or sandwiches or crumpets for dinner! Had to wait outside building after ringing the the bell for at least 10 minutes.

Just want to say what a lovely home for residents this is. The garden is beautiful and very therapeutic. The residents are lovely and most get on with each other. They are all well cared for and I can see this in my mother-in-law's care that she is receiving. No sooner had I questioned a red eye was it attended to. The residence all have their independence around the home in around the grounds. The carers are exceptional.

I visited today. I was quite shocked at how dirty the floor was in my mother-in-law's room. She doesn't move out of her chair much and it was obvious no one had cleaned underneath it. Care staff are very nice, food is adequate but not very inviting.

Reply from Wendy Luck, Home Manager at Sir Aubrey Ward House

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The Housekeeper has now rectified with immediate action, staff to check daily around her chair. Please do not hesitate to speak to me anytime regarding any concerns regarding cleaning. I would be happy for you to meet with the chef to discuss the food, we always appreciate feedback to help us to improve.

Sir Aubrey Ward House has a very welcoming feel, th staff are friendly, caring and have given my mother a much time and support that she needs to settle in, encouraging her to join in the social activities and join in. Nothing is too much trouble. The activities are relaxed and fun and my mother is so enjoying herself. It is taking my mother time to settle into her new home and a new routine but the staff are aways on hand to help.
