Nestled in the leafy village of Theydon Bois, Frank Foster House offers a magical world within its walls. Sensory items on the walls, to touch, to listen to, to see. The sea life scene on the first floor is exquisite.

In addition, Frank Foster have created a 21st Century room with a computer for internet surfing and emails together with the Wii games. In great contrast is the small Chapel for tranquillity and religious wishes.

Activities are always available whether crafts, painting, games a stay at Frank Foster is always pleasurable and entertaining.

Frank Foster House was rated 'Outstanding' by the CQC following an inspection in March 2018.

My aunt was cared for at Frank Foster House for just over two years. Her care was excellent and every effort was made to ensure that her stay was a happy one. She has now moved on to a nursing home for more advanced care.

Every time we visited, which would have been unannounced, the home was clean, warm and calm. The staff were always helpful and caring and I was very confident that my Mum was being well cared for. The home was in an excellent location to take my Mum for a walk in her wheelchair and it was easy to park
at the home. Security was good as you couldn't get in or out without the passcode.

My mother was a resident here for the past three and a half years. She died last week having received very good end of life care.
The home is well managed and all staff, from domestic staff to management have been friendly and welcoming, with a smile regardless of the pressures they are under.
The
open door policy of the manager sets the tone for the staff to be responsive and helpful to any query or issue we wished to discuss.
All staff showed my mother and us as a family, care, empathy and compassion.
The carers, strive to give and maintain an individualised plan of care within their resources. If she wished to have a lie-in and late breakfast, then that was facilitated. Also when she refused to go to bed, she was facilitated sitting in a chair in a safe place.

My Mother is being cared for by an amazing team of staff at Frank Foster House who truly understand the necessity for dignity and respect. Nothing has been too much trouble for them. I am informed when my Mother sees a doctor, eats less than usual or feels overly anxious which allows me to make appropriate,
adjustments to her care package. Mum's carers are very special people and deserve the best we can afford them, which is why I chose Frank Foster House. The building is warm and cosy and the staff are always welcoming. I trust them to make positive decisions in my absence and put my Mum’s best interests first. I can highly recommend this Care Home as they really do seem to “care”.

My Mother was in Frank Foster for about eight years (Passed Nov 2018). My family and I were happy to leave our Mother in the care of Frank Foster workers.
The last months especially were made very comfortable for Mum, and the workers were really great with Mum and all her family.

The care and friendliness of the staff has been amazing.
The transformation of rooms, decoration and cleanliness of Frank Foster's home in Theydon has helped us as a family knowing our mother has had quality care and attention in her 20 years there and in her final days, was a calm and dignified end.

Mum has been a resident in Frank Foster House since the beginning of September and the change in her since then has been amazing. She went in very depressed after having been extremely poorly earlier in the year, with little appetite and unsteady. Since then she is a changed person, back to having her
old spark for life and with a hearty appetite. All the staff and carers, without exception, are extremely kind, caring and have a sincere wish to ensure that the residents are happy and safe. Mum takes part in as many activities as she can, goes out for lunches and visits which is wonderful and something that, at the age of 92, I did not think I would ever see her do again. Her room is lovely and bright and clean and the food, as she says, is absolutely great. It is priceless to see her so happy again and I cannot thank the Managers, Staff and Carers enough. I would truly recommend anyone to Frank Foster House in a heartbeat.

I visited the Frank Foster care home today. I am so impressed with the gardens and the outside areas. Awash with colour and fragrance. Beautiful displays of hanging baskets and colourful garden plants. The home is immaculately kept and the feeling of tranquillity and calm greets you as you walk through
the entrance door. I walked out into the communal garden area where some of the residents were enjoying the sun. It was a pleasure to see.

The home is well run; they are organised and always know about the residents concerned.
They have a high level of staff retention which is great as the residents know the staff well.
The staff are well trained and know what they can do or what they need to refer to someone else; they are extremely
hard working but also very kind and respectful.
There are many activities which keep the residents entertained and there are many events throughout the year.
As a relative, I also feel well informed and they have always consulted me if needed with regards to health issues.

Overall, I have been very pleased with the care and support my mum has received whilst living there for the last few years.

This is a lovely care home where the residents are treated with respect at all times. The building is maintained to an exceptionally high standard and the rooms are well decorated and appointed with flat screen Freeview tv and ensuite toilet and washbasin. The staff are friendly and welcoming and are
happy to show you around without prior notice. It is on the expensive side but then again you get what you pay for. All in all a fantastic care home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.796)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.796) out of 10 for Frank Foster House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 45 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.796 for Frank Foster House is calculated as follows: ( (450 Excellents x 5) + (54 Goods x 4) + (21 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 529 Ratings = 4.796
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Frank Foster House is based on 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 44 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
