Oakdale is a delightful home in Benfleet, Essex providing care and support for up to 27 older people with dementia.

The home is conveniently located close to the local town with good public transport links. The house has been extensively refurbished to provide a friendly and warm environment with 'hotel standard' accommodation.

There are a number of spacious lounges and dining areas for residents and their families to enjoy and a beautiful, secure garden. The staff at Oakdale provide the best quality care and support for their residents embracing the values of person-centred, individualised care.

They have a dedicated activities co-ordinator providing a wide range of entertainment and activities. The chef provides an excellent choice of home-cooked food every day.

Oakdale is a place of exceptional care and kindness. My Mother has been a resident for a couple of months and the Carers treat her with gentleness and respect. Because of her dementia, she is not always easy to care for but throughout her care there, I have never seen anything less than the best of
concern and actions taken to keep her as well as possible and happy. I count ourselves very fortunate to have been able to have Mum cared for there.

My mother has been at Oakdale Care Home now for some time (since May 2017), but I wanted to submit an up-to-date review as there may be someone out there looking for residential care for their loved one and are unsure what to look for in a care home. Oakdale is so much more than a care home, it's my
Mum's home now and the Oakdale staff are her second family. Aside from the excellent meals provided, the high quality of cleanliness throughout the home, I cannot emphasise enough about the constant level of care, attention and genuine affection my Mum receives, it truly is second to none. I love going in to visit Mum, from her having her hair and nails pampered, to enjoying a good old fashioned sing song - there's a lot to keep her stimulated. I know what a difficult decision it can be to consider residential care, and I feel like we struck gold when Mum moved into Oakdale. It truly is home from home and I cannot thank them enough for making this a heartwarming experience for us all.

We first went to Oakdale when we needed day respite for Mum. Finding Oakdale was the best thing we could do for Mum. She has been resident for nearly 18 months. It is a lovely home from home with wonderful staff. The carers are very reassuring with the residents, always rubbing an arm, giving cuddles,
holding a hand. The atmosphere is calm. The drinks trolley is always on the go. There is never any issue if we pop in to see Mum, indeed we are encouraged to visit and join in with events at the home. In the absence of being able to keep Mum in her own home, this is the best home.

I am very happy that my Father was able to go into Oakdale, he has settled in very well and initially went in for two weeks respite this has been extended to six weeks.
The manager has been so supportive to my mum, sister and I, during the time that dad went into Oakdale and she continues to be very
caring and supportive.
The manager and her staff at Oakdale have been brilliant, dad didn’t settle at first but with all the care and hard work, everybody contributed dad is now very settled and happy. The team have been so good, patient and understanding and we cannot thank them all enough.
The staff at Oakdale go over and above to make the residents happy.

My mother came to Oakdale on discharge from hospital and the staff were very welcoming and kind. Since being there, all her needs have been met with genuine care and concern. The staff go out of their way to engage with the residents and talk to them. My sisters and I have been listened to and advised
on lots of things of which we were unsure. The senior staff work in the lounge on laptops, to ensure they are part of the community. We are always welcomed when we come to visit, offered a cup of tea and made to feel welcome.

Wife was admitted into Oakdale Care Home almost five years ago from the first day until now she has been looked after with care, dignity and respect by all staff and visitors. Despite her problems, she is very happy. She says they are my friends. My family and I are more than happy with this home.

We looked at numerous care homes before choosing, but Oakdale was the first and we knew instantly that Oakdale would be ideal for mum. It's very much home from home and one big family. The staff are amazing and truly caring. Nothing is too much trouble. They spend time with everyone, even if it's a
little squeeze of a hand as they pass through. They make everyone feel special. They always make me and my family so welcome, including the dog, as the residents love him. The food looks lovely - I've even been invited to lunch. A varied programme of daily activities and groups coming in. Mum especially enjoyed the nursery children visits. It's lovely to see the oldies have a little sing-song and for families to be able to join in the special events. We know mum is truly cared for and in safe hands.

I was recommended Oakdale Care Home by a social worker. I have been pleased to find that the staff go the extra mile in the care of the residents and they have exceptionally looked after. I am really happy with all aspects of the home. We are private funding friends of our resident.

My Mum lived at Oakdale and was joined by her sister later on. My Mum died last year and my aunt died this month. In the time they were there they were cared for so well. They were both very happy living at Oakdale, they both loved all the staff and I truly believe the staff loved them back! I couldn't
have asked for a better Care Home. We were so lucky that they ended their days there. It didn't stop there either, all visitors were made to feel so welcome. We all felt part of the family.

My dad stayed at Oakdale for 4 years. He was very poorly when he went in but was really happy there and so well looked after. I can't talk more highly of all the staff, especially the management.

I live in New Zealand and I have every confidence and peace of mind that Mum is not only receiving the best care, but seems very content and relaxed. I have visited in June and have been in Oakdale every day at various times. The staff are so welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. I love the way the
staff continually interact with the residents if only a small touch when passing. I love the way you are made to feel like a part of a big family, but their focus remains with the residents. Healthy, nutritious, varied food. Stimulation. Lovely, I am booking my place.

I find the staff to be extremely caring, friendly and helpful. Whenever I have had any concerns, they have always taken them seriously and put my mind at rest. I know Mum is in good hands at Oakdale. I'm really impressed with the communication at Oakdale. They always let me know if they are concerned

My Nan has been a resident at Oakdale for over a year now and I cannot find fault. It is always clean and staff are always ready and waiting to help. Staff are kind and friendly and always remember family members of residents. There is also excellent entertainment on hand.

My Wife attends Oakdale Residential home 3 days per week at their day centre from 9.30 - 6.00. She originally attended another one, but after 18 months they suggested Oakdale because they thought that, due to my Wifes deterioration due to her severe Alzheimers they would be in a better position to cope.
She has been there approximately 6 weeks and since then there has been a big improvement in her behaviour, which is because of the stimulation she receives from the staff as well as the very happy situation the staff create. I cannot thank the home enough for the massive improvement in my Wifes condition.

We were reticent about placing mum into a care home but since she moved into Oakdale, we have been delighted by the care she has received and the improvement we have seen in her overall wellbeing. Her appetite has improved and she has benefited from the regular attention she receives and the structured
environment and activities provided for the residents.


Whenever we visit mum, any of the staff are able to tell us how mum has been and where she is. She has a good relationship with all the staff and enjoys their company. The general atmosphere in Oakdale always welcoming and friendly and relatives are always made to feel at home. The food always looks very appetising and everywhere appears very clean.


From our experience, we would have no hesitation in recommending Oakdale. The care mum receives and knowing she is in such good hands and safe gives us great peace of mind.

My wife first came to Oakdale for daycare to give me some respite, and I must say everybody from management to staff has been absolutely fantastic and supportive of both me and my wife.
My wife is now a full-time resident of Oakdale and the settling in period has been hard for my wife and I, mainly
because of my wife's challenging behaviour, but management and staff have gone above and beyond the call of duty and I cannot thank them enough.

The home helped arrange taxi transportation of the client from her home to Oakdale Care Home for a trial 3 week period. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and the client was quickly made to feel "at home." We enjoyed lunch with the client, joined by two of the staff before saying goodbye. It was a welcoming
and friendly introduction.

I was most impressed by the genuinely warm and caring welcome we had when we first introduced our relative to Oakdale Residential Care. On the subsequent visit, we were delighted to see our relative looking happy and healthy. We were able to talk privatively to the Manager and to our relative, then
a joint meeting which was friendly, compassionate and productive. The whole atmosphere was one of fun, enablement and care.

Melanie Tucknott

Job Title: Registered Home Manager Joined: 2007

Melanie has been the Registered Home manager at Oakdale since 2007 and has worked in Social care since she was 16 years old. She is very passionate about Dementia and End of Life care. Melanie completed a Diploma in Dementia Care and is proud to say that she was part of the first-ever group called Cohort 1 in the movement of 'My Home Life' in which she participated for over 3 years, this is now countrywide.

Silvia Gurgu

Job Title: Registered Home Manager Joined: 2005

Silvia started at Oakdale in 2005 as a Senior Carer, in 2009 and then in 2021 advanced to Registered Home Manager along with Melanie. Silvia's passion for Care, and those she cares for is second to none and you will always find her supporting on the floor, alongside the carers instead of the office as this is where she prefers to be.

Tracy Sycamore

Job Title: Senior Care Homes Administrator Joined: 2016

Tracy started as part time in the newly formed home administrator role at Oakdale in 2016, progressing to full time and then to a Senior position in 2022 where she also supports the Other Admins and our Head Office in the Abode care Homes group. Tracy won Support Person of the Year at the Annual awards ceremony in 2019.
