Oakdale Care Home

My father is in this home. Couldn’t have picked a better place for him. The staff are very friendly and caring. My father is very happy where he is. Very clean, and a wonderful, homely feel when you enter the home. Would highly recommend this home if you want your family member cared for the way they all do in this home. Gives the family peace of mind that they are safe and well looked after. Thank you to the manager and all the staff for your lovely care; you are all amazing.

I am writing this review a month after the sad death of my mother, age 94, who had been a resident and member of the Oakdale family for three and a half years. Despite suffering from advanced vascular dementia, the staff at Oakdale were wonderful in the care and attention they gave to Mum’s personal needs and comfort. A special thank you to the manager and her team for ensuring high quality for Mum’s life in the last few years and creating an atmosphere at the home, that all the staff can sign up to. It really is one big happy family with a level of care of the highest standard. This is how a care home should be run, and I will retain a fondness for the management and staff working there forever. Thank you for everything and for always going that extra mile.

My mum arrived at Oakdale in October 2021 very frail and sad looking however we could not believe the difference, within 24 to 48 hours they had washed mum had a hairdresser do her hair and took a picture for the family, mum was smiling at the camera and looked more like the mum we knew, she looked happy. Mum suffered from Lewy Body Dementia so every day could be a challenge for her and her carers. All the staff treated mum with respect and dignity which the family will always be grateful for, mum enjoyed the home-cooked food and her chats with the staff - sadly due to COVID-19 and lockdowns we were unable to visit as we would but we knew mum was cared for and looked after. When mum sadly passed away, it was very quick and not expected, the family was unable to get there in time but the managers sat with mum and stroked her hand as she went which was such a comfort to the family. I cannot recommend this care home enough, it was spotlessly clean and the food smelled delicious.

I am so pleased and happy in myself to know that my sister is well cared for and loved by all members of staff. My brother-in-law chose the best and I thank him from the bottom of my heart.

My sister has been in care with the staff of the Oakdale for a number of years and has been lovingly cared for by everyone there. During the COVID 19 pandemic not only have the staff had to cope with everyday care of their guests but the isolation and safeguards required for defense against the disease. As a way of keeping the residents and family and friends in touch during the epidemic, the manager and her staff have set up video links by Zoom, enabling both guests and family to stay in touch in such stressful times, even though it takes up more time for the staff in an already busy day. I can only thank the manager and her staff on behalf of our family for the care and devoted attention they have shown to my sister. Thank you so much.

In July, my mother needed to be moved into a care home. This was such a difficult decision for us to make. We viewed all local care homes and Oakdale was far superior to any others. The staff are so amazingly caring, nothing is too much trouble and there is a genuine warmth in the home. They have made this so easy and comfortable for you and our mother.

The manager and staff that I have got to know whilst Dad has been there have been very helpful, kind and understanding. Nothing has been too much trouble. The care taken to arrange activities to interest residents is outstanding and the understanding of their needs and willingness to respond in a constructive way really comes across. The staff and management are very attentive to the residents. They also have a doctor attending weekly to review medical needs and have taken my mother to hospital appointments several times.

My mother has been a resident in Oakdale Care Home, Benfleet, Essex, for 5 months. She is 99 and has settled in extremely well. She needs company and feels happy and safe, and enjoys the family atmosphere in there. My mother joins in with activities and responds well to the staff who she describes as very kind and caring. The family has appreciated the professionalism of the staff in their approach to my mother's medical, emotional and physical needs, and their gentleness and sensitivity to her, both during the day and during the night. The staff work closely with the family and are always welcoming and supportive, and we feel confident that my mother is receiving the very best care that we could hope for, and that all her needs at this stage in her life are being met.

My Grandmother is here and I can honestly say she has never been so well looked after. Her health has improved (as well as can be due to dementia). The care home staff are amazing and my Nan is clearly looked after well. I truly cannot express how happy we are as a family having her stay here. They truly have our trust.

Oakdale is a place of exceptional care and kindness. My Mother has been a resident for a couple of months and the Carers treat her with gentleness and respect. Because of her dementia, she is not always easy to care for but throughout her care there, I have never seen anything less than the best of concern and actions taken to keep her as well as possible and happy. I count ourselves very fortunate to have been able to have Mum cared for there.

My mother has been at Oakdale Care Home now for some time (since May 2017), but I wanted to submit an up-to-date review as there may be someone out there looking for residential care for their loved one and are unsure what to look for in a care home. Oakdale is so much more than a care home, it's my Mum's home now and the Oakdale staff are her second family. Aside from the excellent meals provided, the high quality of cleanliness throughout the home, I cannot emphasise enough about the constant level of care, attention and genuine affection my Mum receives, it truly is second to none. I love going in to visit Mum, from her having her hair and nails pampered, to enjoying a good old fashioned sing song - there's a lot to keep her stimulated. I know what a difficult decision it can be to consider residential care, and I feel like we struck gold when Mum moved into Oakdale. It truly is home from home and I cannot thank them enough for making this a heartwarming experience for us all.

We first went to Oakdale when we needed day respite for Mum. Finding Oakdale was the best thing we could do for Mum. She has been resident for nearly 18 months. It is a lovely home from home with wonderful staff. The carers are very reassuring with the residents, always rubbing an arm, giving cuddles, holding a hand. The atmosphere is calm. The drinks trolley is always on the go. There is never any issue if we pop in to see Mum, indeed we are encouraged to visit and join in with events at the home. In the absence of being able to keep Mum in her own home, this is the best home.

The staff at Oakdale go over and above to make the residents happy.

My mother came to Oakdale on discharge from hospital and the staff were very welcoming and kind. Since being there, all her needs have been met with genuine care and concern. The staff go out of their way to engage with the residents and talk to them. My sisters and I have been listened to and advised on lots of things of which we were unsure. The senior staff work in the lounge on laptops, to ensure they are part of the community. We are always welcomed when we come to visit, offered a cup of tea and made to feel welcome.

Wife was admitted into Oakdale Care Home almost five years ago from the first day until now she has been looked after with care, dignity and respect by all staff and visitors. Despite her problems, she is very happy. She says they are my friends. My family and I are more than happy with this home.

We looked at numerous care homes before choosing, but Oakdale was the first and we knew instantly that Oakdale would be ideal for mum. It's very much home from home and one big family. The staff are amazing and truly caring. Nothing is too much trouble. They spend time with everyone, even if it's a little squeeze of a hand as they pass through. They make everyone feel special. They always make me and my family so welcome, including the dog, as the residents love him. The food looks lovely - I've even been invited to lunch. A varied programme of daily activities and groups coming in. Mum especially enjoyed the nursery children visits. It's lovely to see the oldies have a little sing-song and for families to be able to join in the special events. We know mum is truly cared for and in safe hands.

I was recommended Oakdale Care Home by a social worker. I have been pleased to find that the staff go the extra mile in the care of the residents and they have exceptionally looked after. I am really happy with all aspects of the home. We are private funding friends of our resident.

My Mum lived at Oakdale and was joined by her sister later on. My Mum died last year and my aunt died this month. In the time they were there they were cared for so well. They were both very happy living at Oakdale, they both loved all the staff and I truly believe the staff loved them back! I couldn't have asked for a better Care Home. We were so lucky that they ended their days there. It didn't stop there either, all visitors were made to feel so welcome. We all felt part of the family.
