We had our mum/friend have a three weeks respite care. She was looked after wonderfully by all staff there. They helped her use her walker, which she woudn't use at home. You can have lunch with them there, which I enjoyed on 2 occasions. It was lovely that the staff helped and were there to say goodbye
and waved her off.

Our Mum had been a resident here for three and a half years. Unfortunately she passed way last weekend in the home. The team of carers on duty at the weekend were amazing, they showed care, compassion and authentic empathy. We couldn't have asked for more from them, it was very emotional & the care
& dignity they showed was greatly appreciated.
Following this the only contact we have received has been a call from the home admin Sue who was lovely and expressed her condolences.
What has really upset us is the lack of contact from the Care Home Management, no call, no acknowledgment even when my sister visited this week, she couldn't even get up from her desk, we have found this rude and like our Mum never existed in her eyes. We had a lovely relationship with the assistant manager who has vanished from the home?
We asked for our Mums clothes to be donated to charity or given to other residents, but these were apparently thrown away despite many of them being new.
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Oaklands Care HomeThank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. The whole Oaklands team extends their condolences on the passing of your mother. We are deeply sorry for your loss and understand this is a difficult time for you and your family. We appreciate your kind comments about the care, compassion and dignity shown by our care team; this has been shared with the staff involved; we know it means a great deal to them. We are sorry you are disappointed with the communication following the loss of your mother. The home manager did try to contact you by telephone which went straight to voicemail; she regrets she was unable to speak with you at the time and how this has added to your distress. The home manager was not aware of your sister’s visit to the home and therefore the opportunity to speak with her was missed, and we apologise for the unintended upset caused. In line with our policy, we are not permitted to keep residents’ personal clothing in the home. This should have been explained at the time, and we regret this caused further distress. We value the relationship shared with your mother and family and are saddened this experience has caused upset. We will use your feedback to reflect on how we communicate with families at such sensitive times. Once again, please accept our heartfelt condolences.

Find staff to be very friendly to both my mum from admin to carers to catering staff and office staff. Was very worried about Mum's experience in a care home, but this was soon dispelled as staff seem very attentive and professional. Very happy overall. Room is a good size and good to have a bathroom.
A very good home.

I have been visiting now since January and I am pleased to say after meeting the new manager I feel much more content. I find her very approachable, empathetic, understanding and warm. It automatically gives a sense of peace and comfort in that my father is in good care. The manager is efficient and
I find that she listens and observes and follows through with any concerns. I have also seen a change in staff and how information sharing appears to be working better.

I come to visit my sister once a week. She seems very happy here. Most of the staff are very friendly. The food looks delicious, the cook works very hard.
Not sure about activities, I've never seen any one doing anything with the residents, items go missing from room often.

My mum has been a resident of Oaklands Care Home for just over a year and I am delighted with all aspects of the care she is receiving. She is well cared for, clean and tidy (which has always been important to my Mum) and safe - all of which are important to me as her daughter. The staff are amazing,
very kind, caring, open, honest and, in my eyes, absolute angels. As a family, the staff are very friendly, and accommodating and always welcome us to stay for lunch with my Mum, which my Dad often does. As my Mum's dementia has progressed, her needs have got greater but they continue to treat her with the dignity and respect she deserves. Management are approachable and always willing to discuss my Mum's care needs or any concerns that either of us may have. I am always kept up to date on my Mum's care, which I truly appreciate. Thank you to everyone at Oaklands for looking after my Mum.

During this month of November, we have had two events at the home to celebrate. A raffle to welcome our new manager. To honour Armistice Day. Both events were outstanding in the amount of effort put in by the activities team and kitchen staff. All of the staff and carers work extremely hard and as a
team and it shows. Congratulations new management. I am sure we'll hope it continues.

Mum became a resident at Oaklands on the 31st of January 2024 after much heart searching that at 102 and struggling to keep her safe and cared for in her own home we visited Oaklands and from that first visit knew this was the home for Mum. She was reluctant as we were at first but from the day she
arrived Mum's life changed for the better. She was greeted by the most amazing group of caring staff from the Manager to everyone who works there nothing was too much trouble and Mum was cared for in every aspect of her needs as we her family were they recognised that families need help adjusting to a new family routine. Mum had a beautiful room which we were encouraged to make her own with her own possessions. Mum fell into the routine very quickly and was enjoying every aspect of the home she especially was enjoying her meals which always looked delicious. Mum sadly died in hospital in May but her 3 months in Oaklands were the best in a long time and for that, we will be forever grateful.

My mother was a resident at Oaklands in Laindon for a number of years. Their care of her was amazing. She passed away on 25/12/23 in Basildon Hospital from pneumonia, but their support and care right up until her being in hospital was beyond and above their call of duty. Big thank you to all the staff
that knew my mum.

My mother moved into Oaklands care home in December and has really enjoyed her experiences so far. The staff and management are amazing, so kind and compassionate and always seem to go above and beyond.
The home and my mother’s room is immaculate. I was very hesitant about leaving my mum but she’s
gone from a person that would rarely eat to someone who is looking forward to meal times. She also enjoys the company of the kind staff and the other residents. I regularly take her out and she spends time at my house but looks forward to going ‘home’ back to Oaklands which is lovely to see. She has gained weight and is the happiest she’s been in a long time. The meal times are a particular highlight for her but even in between meals, she is regularly given tea/coffee and homemade cakes.
If I had to mention any negative, it’s that we haven’t been able to have a telephone in her room, but overall couldn’t be happier.

Mum's been at Oaklands Care Home for three weeks, and she has received wonderful care. She is cared for to a very high standard, from receiving her medicine, washing, and her environment. After the horror stories you sometimes hear about nursing homes, our experience is very positive, and we would happily
recommend the facility to others.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.675)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.675) out of 10 for Oaklands Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.675 for Oaklands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (179 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 243 Ratings = 4.675
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oaklands Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
