Reviews

8.9 Oaklands Care Home has a Review Score of 8.9 (8.944)

The Review Score of 8.9 (maximum of 10) for Oaklands Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 12 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Oaklands Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.308 for Oaklands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (71 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 143 Ratings = 4.308

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.636 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oaklands Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 11 positive Reviews (55 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 7 Reviews ÷ 11 Target = 0.636

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Overall I am very happy with the care at the home.
I know some residents like their doors closed but it does concern me.
My mum sometimes likes her door closed.
When I visit on a day like this and sit there for 2 hours or so and not one person knocked on the door to see if she was OK.
Each resident needs to be allocated a carer and this should be their responsibility to check on their residents.
They may have fallen or anything behind a closed door.

HC-One, Careline Team at Oaklands Care Home responded to this review on 17 Aug 2017:

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. We really value the feedback provided by those who use our services.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for your experience on the day, however, all residents are allocated care assistant on shift and those that require close observation during the day are monitored and recorded.
Where the residents are deemed to have capacity, we respect their choices and decisions they make, however where this may pose a risk this will clearly be explained to the individual and measures put in place.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any further explanation.

My father stayed at Oaklands as a private resident for approximately 5 weeks. The manager was extremely kind, considerate and professional and did all she could to make my father and the rest of the family welcomed. Two carers, in particular, provided most of the daily care, with one bonding particularly well. All the personal interactions I personally experienced were faultless.
I believe that the manager and her team are doing a super job to turn Oaklands around.

Improved since new manager and deputy have been there since May 2017. My dad has been given the attention and management he needs. Staff are more aware of his needs (despite living there since January 2015). Dad is very happy and more settled too.

Senior staff have recently been changed and the result of this is that great improvements have been made. There are regular relative meetings at which we can bring up any issues we have, care plans are now regularly updated and communication generally is better. The staff are very friendly and approachable, treating residents patiently and respecting their dignity.

Mum is always smiling, so much more relaxed and chilled than when in her own home.

All the residents seem well cared for and content in their own ways and the staff are very welcoming and caring.

They've encouraged me to put up new curtains and pictures for mum, to make her room seem more like home. There is plenty of space for her to walk about all day, they don't stress if she wants to stay in bed all day, or walk about all day.

The carers have worked out the best way to get her to eat, and she hasn't lost any weight since she's been with them.

They helped me to move her 200 miles when dad wanted to move back to Essex, they made all the arrangements.

Care always seems expensive, difficult to rate as "value for money". Would be much nicer if care was free for everyone. lol

I have always found the home welcoming and friendly. They look after mum very well. She has improved in many ways, health, weight, socialising. They have taken a great weight off of my mind.

My husband has become a resident of this care home very recently (in this month) he is in his last stages of Alzheimers and was welcomed with great kindness and caring. He is kept warm and comfortable with plenty to eat. The staff have understood his illness and treat him in a way that keeps him calm and happy. They are happy to welcome me at any time that I visit. I think that my husband and I both feel as though we are amongst friends and I can talk through any concerns that I have with ease. There is a willingness to include me when making sure that he is taken care of very well. His bedroom is lovely. In fact the whole of the care home is wonderful and I can find nothing bad to say.

The staff were extremely helpful and caring on a day where my mother-in-law had to be taken by ambulance to hospital for a check up. An ambulance had to be arranged and my mother-in-law had to be dressed and prepared ready for this visit, thus eliminating stress and anxiety on this elderly resident. I have found the above experience is very indicative of the way the care home is run on a daily basis, i.e very caring, considerate and efficient in all aspects.
