Okeley Care Centre is an 84 bed purpose-built care home in Chelmsford, Essex. Situated over three floors, permanent accommodation and respite rooms are provided for service users over the age of 65. Dementia care is provided on the first and second floor. All areas of the home are accessible for wheelchair users. The home has a security entry system.

Okeley Care Centre is registered with the Care Quality Commission for the following purpose: Accommodation for persons who require personal care.

Standard of care is "top-notch". All staff are very friendly and professional, and since my mother has been a resident, she has been treated and cared for very well; it has been nice to see her happy and with a smile on her face again. They keep me informed at all times and regularly check in with me
on a monthly basis, asking if I have any concerns or issues.

Three years experience in Okeley, no problem in the first two years.
With age, unfortunately, comes a decline in health, which, unfortunately, staff at Okeley could not cope with. There's no continuity of care from the regular staff, often agency covers with little understanding or compassion of a
quiet gentleman. Poor record keeping, little liaising with NOK. Hospital appointments missed (heart clinic/CT scans). Food very, very poor, no nutritional value/one day (photo taken) fried fish, chicken nuggets, saveloy, veg roll, chips and mash! Unacceptable.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. I do apologise that your experience was not satisfactory. The care industry as a whole has experienced difficulties with regard to the recruitment of team members over the past few years, which has resulted in the use of agency team members. At Okeley, we do try to ensure continuity with the agency team we use, as we understand how important a familiar face is for our residents. We have also recruited new team members to minimise the use of agency staff.
We did apologise that on one occasion, a hospital appointment was missed - this was rebooked for the following day, and all went well.
There are a variety of choices provided for all meal times, with a choice of an alternative option which alternates with the seasons. We encourage people to make their own choice of meals/preferences or requests and do our best to cater for these person-centred choices.

My nan has been at Okeley Care Home for a year or so now; it was tough for her to leave her home after all the years living there, but has settled in so well. This is due to the staff; they really do treat every resident like family. Whenever I have been there, they are also so welcoming to the resident's
actual families. All I can say is thank you for making my nan so comfortable and welcome.

I would highly recommend Oakley Care Home to any friends or family should the need arise. The site is always kept clean and tidy to ensure the hygiene and health of the residents are paramount. The care is excellent, to say the least, and the staff are incredibly welcoming and accommodating to all visitors
on the premises.
During a recent visit to the site, myself and my friend had a meal, and it was surprisingly pleasant when factoring in other experiences with family situated in other care homes. The home always has activities going on to keep the residents engaged and entertained. The home also has an open-door approach in regard to the manager, who is always willing to help answer any questions or resolve any issues.

My mum has settled into Okeley Care Home very well; everyone is very friendly and tries their very best. My other experience as a family member was I had to keep going over the same questions about how things were run. Some leaflets may be of help to us. Also, my mum brought her own wheelchair into
the home, but I don't think there is enough to go around due to a number of occasions it is being used for another resident. Just thinking about hygiene. My mum has pull-up pants that I bring in; she doesn't walk very well to the bathroom, so I think more in the day would be good, as they are not for convenience, only accidents.

I am always impressed that despite him having only been in the home for three weeks, as soon as I enter the building, the staff know who I am and who I have come to see without me saying anything. This is true from reception to the assistant manager or the lady in accounts.

I wanted to leave an amazing review to let people know that this care home is outstanding. My nan has been here for one month and I am so impressed with the care standards and the amazing staff there. I was so apprehensive of moving my loved one into a care home but my worries have been eased knowing
that every department within the home has been nothing but positive. As you enter the reception area the staff are welcoming and friendly, the manager's door is open, I get offered a hot drink and a cake or pastry, lovely, clean home, clothing washed and ironed and available again. the food is amazing, plenty of choices and the staff have been supporting my nan to gain some weight.
The care staff have been fantastic, so caring, always having time for the residents, I get regular calls from senior staff to inform me of how my nan has been settling in.
I really am so grateful and want to help ease others who have been in the same position, Okeley Care Home has my vote. Thank you team.

My wife's mum has been in Okeley for quite a while; she is happy and looked after really well. Like any family who has their loved ones in a care home can be a worry; however, every time we see her, she is happy, and the staff are great and involved in her care to suit her needs. She always says she
is at "home"; it doesn't feel like a care home.

The staff were always polite, respectful, kind and helpful. The rooms and corridors were clean and well looked after and maintained. The atmosphere was calm and quiet. There was plenty of parking, access was easy and the reception large and comfortable. My questions and queries were always answered
and care was taken to support me and my well being. I felt the staff made effort to get to know my father and made the effort to be understanding of his needs. A caring atmosphere was evident.

From the minute I walked into Okeley Care Home I knew this was the perfect new home for my mother. She was treated with the utmost care and respect at all times. Staff really went above and beyond my expectations, they were marvellous, especially at the end of her life.
Okeley has a warm feeling,
starting with the cleanliness and friendliness of staff who are very welcoming. Cannot recommend Okeley highly enough.

When visiting my family member I was very happy with the home from the cleanliness to how friendly and helpful the staff were. It was very daunting visiting the care home for the first time but we made to feel comfortable and we’re invited to join in any activities on the suites .

We visited for a couple of weeks and we could not be happier with how the stuff were treating my mother. They had a great connection with them and kept them busy with great activities and looking after them when needed. We could not be happier with the treatment here at Okeley, not to mention with the
great conditions of the place always being tidy and up to scratch.

My sister in law moved in to Okeley in November 2021, we live abroad so have been unable to visit as often as we would like. The home do a regular video call so we can talk to her. We were able to come and visit this month and the home have been extremely accommodating and supportive. She has gained
weight and is looking so much better than before she went to live at Okekey. Although we hadn't met the staff, we were greeted like we were daily visitors. We feel so happy returning home know she is well cared for.

My grandmother has been at Okeley since April 2022. She initially was only going for respite whilst we were on holiday, however she really enjoyed her respite stay and decided to make Okeley her home. Since being at Okeley she has made many new friends and joined in activities creating new interests.
Her health and wellbeing has improved since being at Okeley and we feel this is because she has that constant support of the amazing staff. We are always greeted by the staff in a polite and welcoming manner on every visit. I would recommend Okeley to anyone looking in to care for their loved ones.

Excellent and understanding staff, helped my Mother in law with understanding and compassion from day one, the staff help to make this a home from home as well as understanding the the upheaval our family members feel, encouraging residents to engage and assimilate without being forward or pushy and
ease them in at their own pace, the home is spotlessly clean and very safe and secure, the staff are always available to discuss anything and give information or support to residents family.

Hayley Gibbs

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2020

I joined Excelcare in 2016 after having been with my previous care provider for 16 years and wanting to develop my career further. I started at Sweyne Court in Rayleigh where I stayed for four years. Then in 2020, the Home Manager role became available at Okeley, and I was ready for the new challenge whilst staying with Excelcare, where I love working. It was the perfect opportunity.


I enjoy making people happy and comfortable and creating
memorable moments that the people living with us can enjoy and reminisce about. It is so wonderful seeing people previously isolated become social butterflies and make new friends.


The team are kind, caring and compassionate and puts the people living at Okeley first. They are keen and willing to learn, and I hear many positive comments about them from the residents and their loved ones. I am so proud to be part of the Okeley family
