My dad has sadly been diagnosed with dementia and has gone downhill very quickly, Oakley Care Home have been fantastic in dealing with his needs at a difficult time for all the family.
The home is spotlessly clean and all staff are lovely.
I couldn’t rate them highly enough!

We learnt about Okeley from a friend whose husband is a resident here and is very happy. We've always heard very positive things about Okeley. All our enquiries have been dealt with brilliantly and we ended up moving Mum in after an emergency hospital admission following a fall. Everyone is wonderful
with Mum, she is very well cared for. Everyone is very supportive of us as a family too, answering our questions and helping us learn new routines. Okeley is a lovely environment which we would highly recommend.

My nan has been at Okeley for a few months now, I have to say I was so scared about her going into a care home but the staff have all been amazing, the show round was enlightening, and the housekeeper really made me feel at ease. The room looked amazing and had penguins made out of towels. The manager
and deputy manager have been so supportive and patient in my decision-making.
The care staff took the time to get to know my nan from the start and my worries were eased quickly, she always looks clean and smart (as she has always been). I feel that the staff support her dementia with such individuality, it is so calming to know my nan is happy and safe.
I often stay for lunch with my nan and the food has been great, the Sunday roast is her favourite, all the trimmings.
Thank you Okeley, you all do an amazing job.

Although my mum was only at Okeley for a few weeks, we were very impressed with the level of care she received. The staff are incredibly welcoming and approachable, and the manager, deputy manager and administrator were always available to help.
The reception area is very bright, and we always received
a warm welcome from the staff. The care staff were also friendly and empathetic and helped Mum settle in quickly.

Okeley Care Home has provided Dad with a stable, caring and professional environment. After the initial upset of Dad beginning his stay, we were happy and confident that his needs were met and that he would be safe and in time, happy. The staff have been amazing throughout.

Both my dad and his sister have been in Okeley Care Home for over 12 months now and I have absolutely no doubt they are in the right place. Many of the staff have gone above and beyond to provide exceptional care, to get to know them and their needs, and to meet those needs as best they can with the
resources and time they have.

The home - from the reception, to the residents' lounges, dining areas and bedrooms - is well decorated and maintained to create a welcoming space, and outdoor spaces provide further areas where residents can enjoy activities or visits.

Having had some negative experiences with other care homes, my family has always found management at Okeley to be approachable, available and helpful, and the dedication of the staff often astounds us.

As both my family members approach end of life, my family cannot thank the staff at Okeley enough. They represent the best of healthcare professionals and I hope Excelcare reward them highly for their work.

Okeley Home has an impressively bright and airy environment with several outdoor spaces. The staff are invariably approachable and always ready to help. The quality of care provided is extremely good and always carried out with good humour and grace. My mother-in-law has settled in extremely well and
has gained weight and is looking really healthy, happy and content. I can not praise the staff enough for the loving care that they provide.

I would highly recommend Okeley Care Home for anyone requiring genuine and excellent support for their loved one. My mother with Alzheimer's has been a resident since February 2023 and has been looked after really well in all aspects. She has settled in really well due to the care and affection she
has received from all staff. She is healthy, happy and content. I can not praise the staff and their care enough. Thank you to everyone at Okeley.

My wife suffered from dementia and the effects of Covid. The staff, over an 18-month period, gave 100% to keep her safe and secure. Having cared for her for five years, I was amazed by the humour and level of care. Day after day until, with comfort and dignity, she passed away. They are the unsung heroes.

Three years experience in Okeley, no problem in the first two years.
With age, unfortunately, comes a decline in health, which, unfortunately, staff at Okeley could not cope with. There's no continuity of care from the regular staff, often agency covers with little understanding or compassion of a
quiet gentleman. Poor record keeping, little liaising with NOK. Hospital appointments missed (heart clinic/CT scans). Food very, very poor, no nutritional value/one day (photo taken) fried fish, chicken nuggets, saveloy, veg roll, chips and mash! Unacceptable.
Reply from Hayley Gibbs, Home Manager at Okeley Care HomeThank you for taking the time to complete a review. I do apologise that your experience was not satisfactory. The care industry as a whole has experienced difficulties with regard to the recruitment of team members over the past few years, which has resulted in the use of agency team members. At Okeley, we do try to ensure continuity with the agency team we use, as we understand how important a familiar face is for our residents. We have also recruited new team members to minimise the use of agency staff.
We did apologise that on one occasion, a hospital appointment was missed - this was rebooked for the following day, and all went well.
There are a variety of choices provided for all meal times, with a choice of an alternative option which alternates with the seasons. We encourage people to make their own choice of meals/preferences or requests and do our best to cater for these person-centred choices.
Please be assured that the Okeley team work hard to address any concerns.

My nan has been at Okeley Care Home for a year or so now; it was tough for her to leave her home after all the years living there, but has settled in so well. This is due to the staff; they really do treat every resident like family. Whenever I have been there, they are also so welcoming to the resident's
actual families. All I can say is thank you for making my nan so comfortable and welcome.

I would highly recommend Oakley Care Home to any friends or family should the need arise. The site is always kept clean and tidy to ensure the hygiene and health of the residents are paramount. The care is excellent, to say the least, and the staff are incredibly welcoming and accommodating to all visitors
on the premises.
During a recent visit to the site, myself and my friend had a meal, and it was surprisingly pleasant when factoring in other experiences with family situated in other care homes. The home always has activities going on to keep the residents engaged and entertained. The home also has an open-door approach in regard to the manager, who is always willing to help answer any questions or resolve any issues.
Great home!

My mum has settled into Okeley Care Home very well; everyone is very friendly and tries their very best. My other experience as a family member was I had to keep going over the same questions about how things were run. Some leaflets may be of help to us. Also, my mum brought her own wheelchair into
the home, but I don't think there is enough to go around due to a number of occasions it is being used for another resident. Just thinking about hygiene. My mum has pull-up pants that I bring in; she doesn't walk very well to the bathroom, so I think more in the day would be good, as they are not for convenience, only accidents.

I am always impressed that despite him having only been in the home for three weeks, as soon as I enter the building, the staff know who I am and who I have come to see without me saying anything. This is true from reception to the assistant manager or the lady in accounts.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.744)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.744) out of 10 for Okeley Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 46 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.744 for Okeley Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (425 Excellents x 5) + (106 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 547 Ratings = 4.744
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Okeley Care Home is based on 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 84 registered maximum number of service users is 16.8, which has been reached with 45 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2020

I joined Excelcare in 2016 after having been with my previous care provider for 16 years and wanting to develop my career further. I started at Sweyne Court in Rayleigh where I stayed for four years. Then in 2020, the Home Manager role became available at Okeley, and I was ready for the new challenge whilst staying with Excelcare, where I love working. It was the perfect opportunity.

I enjoy making people happy and comfortable and creating
memorable moments that the people living with us can enjoy and reminisce about. It is so wonderful seeing people previously isolated become social butterflies and make new friends.

The team are kind, caring and compassionate and puts the people living at Okeley first. They are keen and willing to learn, and I hear many positive comments about them from the residents and their loved ones. I am so proud to be part of the Okeley family
