My Dad was a resident at Okeley Care Home for the final two and a half years of his life. He had Lewy Body dementia and changed significantly over that time. He always received the best care and the staff were fantastic at supporting him and our family and responding to changes in his condition in a
prompt manner. I have great memories of walking with him in the gardens, enjoying a coffee in reception and attending musical activities. He was always treated with dignity and respect. My Dad stayed at the care home for end of life care and passed away peacefully in the familiar and comfortable surroundings. We are hugely grateful for the care he received in his final years.

The staff at Okeley are caring and work hard; they are very aware of residents’ anxieties, so if they notice anything that is making my Mum upset they will know how to sort it out. They are proactive and friendly and whilst I haven’t been able to visit during the past year in the way I could before
the lockdown it’s been of great comfort to know how much the staff provide the affection and attention Mum requires.

I would just like say that in these difficult times with Covid-19. It has been really hard not to be able to see my Nan. But what the care home has been doing has really been great. I have been having regular FaceTime calls with my Nan and this makes me so happy and just lifts my day in these difficult
times, just by seeing her and be able to talk and catch up with her. I think this is great and she gets to tell all about what they have been doing in the care home. I also follow the care home on Facebook and love seeing the pictures of all and the different activities they do on a day to day basis. I would highly recommend this care home, my Nan is so happy there and this is great to see. I would like to thank all the staff and management team, for doing a great job caring for my Nan and I can’t wait to visit her, but I know she is in safe hands. Thanks again, you are angels in my eyes.

I have found the care to be of an exceptional standard. The way my family member has been cared for is incredible. All the staff have been fantastic during trying times and I found the transition from one manager to another did not impact on my relative's needs or care. This was a concern we had due
to not being able to enter during the Covid pandemic, however, with many phone calls, video calls and updates care and the transition has been well handled and seamless. Cannot recommend highly enough and thank all the staff for the time and effort they have put in over the past year.

I continue to be extremely impressed with the staff and management of Okeley Care Home, especially throughout the last 12 months during the pandemic. The care that my father has received seems to be excellent. Whenever I contact the home, I am always welcomed with a friendly voice. They always have
time for me. The Home Manager has an open-door policy and this has definitely been used (virtually now of course). I can email her and I get a detailed response within hours. She makes a point of getting to know the residents, which I find invaluable and makes me feel that the residents are not just a number, they really matter. The care on the unit is excellent too and the Senior Carers keep in touch with the family on a regular basis. They all have taken the time to get to know my Father and are able to promote independence, whilst assisting when needed.
It was our good fortune to secure a place at Okeley for my Father. I would definitely recommend the home.

Okeley and staff have an excellent standard in every way. During COVID restrictions some activities have been interrupted, however, in the normal course of daily life the activities are varied, interesting and excellent in every way. Every tenant is treated with kindness, dignity and utmost respect.
As visitors, our family received warm hospitality and welcome. During Mum's last days sensitive, loving and gentle care became evident and as her time drew near to leave this earth our family were cared for too. So grateful.

The home is very well presented and clean. The staff overall are very good and caring. The food although good could be more varied to suit individual tastes, especially puddings. Residents enjoyed being served fresh fruit after a meal rather than helping themselves to it, which they don't. Laundry and
personal possessions are hard to keep track of as residents wander into each other's rooms. Given the option, we would have changed 'good' to 'very good'.

We have been well supported since my mother's admission into Okeley sixteen months ago. She has always been treated with respect and helped maintain her dignity. When problems arose, the management was always approachable to help get things back on track. During these uncertain times, priorities have
always been given to keeping residents as safe as possible. Given sufficient staffing, the residents can be kept occupied. The current situation has been testing for all.

Although this is a very stressful time for and "the first time it's happened" to our family and many others, all at Okeley seem to understand that and always seem to have or make time to talk, reassure and support me when I visit (although that's not been possible lately). This general caring attitude
reassures me my mum is looked after well and rather than highlight specifics I'd say the home always feels safe and caring place for my mum to be when I've visited. I have been surprised how many of the staff know her by name without having to resort to looking at paperwork.

The Okeley team pulled out all the stops to celebrate my mother’s 102nd birthday in style but ensuring that all the Covid-19 restrictions were strictly observed.
The way Okeley treated my mother over this celebration shows how much they care for all the residents and we appreciated it very much. My
mother has only been at Okeley for four months but yet they treated her as if she had been a resident for many years. We constantly mention to all those who ask after my mother’s welfare of the very genuine care and attention which she receives from the staff at Okeley.

The management and senior staff run a well-organised care home. They are always looking for staff, in my opinion, stops me from marking higher.
The activities and entertainment are excellent and a credit to the home.
Food and drink in the dining rooms are excellent but let down by the staff when eating
or drinking in the room. The home has come along way with improvements within the last 6-9 months, which is a credit to the management.

In lockdown, I wished to bring my sister a gift for her birthday in 3 days' time. I wanted to make sure a card, present, and cake would be there on her birthday. I was very warmly greeted by the Manager and receptionist outside the home in the car park. They assured me she was ok and no need for me
to pay for a cake as every resident in the house was given a cake. They talked about her warmly. I felt quite pleased she was in their care and safe hands. Thank you.

My mother has been in Okeley since February 2020 and settled in very quickly. She was very happy with her decision to move. Then came lockdown which unsettled her and seemed to progress her dementia, making her agitated and confused. The staff are going over and above the extra mile to help Mum through
this dark stage in her life. They facilitate visits while keeping within the bounds of social distancing and this makes such a positive difference to Mum's life. The staff are doing their utmost to provide social activities for the residents in the absence of outside entertainers. I see them as extended family and know Mum is in good hands. When I have struggled to understand the changes in my mum, the staff are always there for me too.

I would like to use this post to thank the staff at Okeley on my mothers unit who I know have been working very hard to care for my mother and I know she is safe and very happy. Okeley is a first-class home and can’t thank the staff enough who are always cheerful, happy and dedicated to residents health
and welfare. I have been given updates on my mothers care regularly which is very comforting in these extremely anxious times. Thank you all.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.701)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.701) out of 10 for Okeley Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.701 for Okeley Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (334 Excellents x 5) + (101 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 451 Ratings = 4.701
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Okeley Care Home is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 84 registered maximum number of service users is 16.8, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2020

I joined Excelcare in 2016 after having been with my previous care provider for 16 years and wanting to develop my career further. I started at Sweyne Court in Rayleigh where I stayed for four years. Then in 2020, the Home Manager role became available at Okeley, and I was ready for the new challenge whilst staying with Excelcare, where I love working. It was the perfect opportunity.

I enjoy making people happy and comfortable and creating
memorable moments that the people living with us can enjoy and reminisce about. It is so wonderful seeing people previously isolated become social butterflies and make new friends.

The team are kind, caring and compassionate and puts the people living at Okeley first. They are keen and willing to learn, and I hear many positive comments about them from the residents and their loved ones. I am so proud to be part of the Okeley family
