In general, the care and services are very satisfactory. Some of the junior care workers need more training but the senior staff can't be faulted for the attention given to the residents. They are extremely informative, both by phone and in person.

One factor I do think could be improved is the personal hygiene of the residents. I have had to raise, on occasion, teeth cleaning, nail care hygiene and hair brushing. They should be done daily.

After the initial shock of Mum going into care, she settled so well. I'm extremely happy of how happy she is now. Happier than she was at home.

She is so cared for and entertained. Couldn't be happier.

Review from Bernard T (Husband of Resident) published on 12 July 2023 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My wife is seventy-six years old with multiple sclerosis (diagnosed with relapsing/remitting multiple sclerosis in 1980 after a few weeks as an inpatient at a hospital for neurological diseases). She underwent numerous tests under a prestigious doctor, later dubbed a sir (who died three years back and has a plaque in Westminster Abbey for his work on neurological diseases). Relapses occur irregularly and afterwards my wife was in remission, but had minus 2% of the bodily function she had prior to the attack. My wife has steadily deteriorated. She was/is not an easy patient, but she is fully sentient and rather euphoric. This is good, but leads her to believe she can do things that she can't, like stand up safely or transfer to the toilet herself safely. She has fallen on a number of occasions and has metal plate in her arm, leg and hip. She has a permanent indwelling catheter, caused by her inability to control her urinating due to multiple sclerosis. She is deaf and has hearing aids in each ear. There are clear signs that she is having problems controlling defecating and is irregular and unpredictable. That is my attempt to explain how difficult it is to look after her properly. My wife went in to Redbond Lodge on Saturday 20th May 2023 and stayed ten nights. I picked her up on Tuesday 30th May 2023 at 3pm. She was well looked after in Redbond Lodge. It is quite difficult to elicit proper information from her, as she is forgetful, but she recalled going to bingo. The home is a good place with good, helpful and friendly staff, though my wife is rather a 'loner' and does not always engage in conversation easily. One feature which we regard as a very positive thing, is that meals are served more in keeping with our normal life and living structure. Most care homes or hospitals give a full main meal at around just after midday, followed by a snack or sandwich at around 5pm. Redbond Lodge serves main meals in the early evening, which in our book is good. Flexibility is also given to times of retirement, which we were asked about when my wife went into the home. Overall, we were pleased with Redbond and will come back again for a respite break. Thanks again to all the staff and management for doing a very challenging and difficult task very well. Well done. Not an easy job, as I know being my wife's sole carer, with help from the local city council. Good luck and best wishes.

Both my parents have been residents in Redbond Lodge. My father passed away last year. Both parents have had great care and support in spending time with each other. The home is clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. My mum has been in the home six years or more. She has complained a few times about the meals. I have always had good communication with the management, in dealing with any issues regarding my parents. Thank you to all the staff at Redbond Lodge.

The care home is by far superior to many I have been in. The staff are extremely polite and willing to help at all times. Mum is thriving since coming to Redbond Lodge. She has interaction with lovely people now. She's put on weight and had her hair done. All in all, we as a family, cannot praise Redbond Lodge enough for the care Mum is receiving.

My husband has been receiving excellent care, he is happy and settled in Redbond. When he needed new glasses, it was all arranged by staff and he now has his new specs.
During a recent outbreak of COVID, he was kept safe and didn't contract the virus.

I am very happy with his treatment and have no worries for his safety.

Overall Experience

My father has been a resident at Redbond Lodge for two years and during that time he has been cared for in a safe and clean environment by helpful and efficient staff. He has dementia and Parkinsons disease and consequently has to use a wheelchair, but the staff are keen to offer him activities that he can participate in that are within his capabilities. He enjoys the meals and he is regularly offered suitable drinks and snacks if needed during the course of the day. As a family, we are kept fully informed about his health and any change of circumstances and feel that if there are any matters we need to bring to the attention of staff when we visit, that those matters are promptly resolved. He had reached the point that he could not manage in his own home, notwithstanding family help and carer visits, and there is no doubt that being a full-time resident in this care home has proved to be a necessary but positive step for his health and well-being.

The staff are all really friendly to my grandad and me. They have gone above the normal level of care. They helped him settle in really well and are always on the phone/email if I need them. He loves watching the activities they do and in time I think he will join in more. They have given me full peace of mind that Grandad is safe and looked after really well. Thank you.

Mum has settled well and has now been here for four months. Her room is light, bright and spotlessly clean. The care is excellent, and the home always listens and takes action when I have brought this up. Mum is safe and well cared for, and the meals are of a very high standard. I wish Mum would socialise a little more and not sit in her room, but a lot of this is to do with her anxiety.

Review from Lorraine T (Daughter of Resident) published on 20 February 2023 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Mum has been at Redbond Lodge Care Home for two and a half years. After the first year, her situation changed meaning that the care she required changed completely. The Redbond team was very quick to respond to mum's new situation and continue to give her a level of care that is second to none.
Most important to us, the family, is that whenever we visit Mum is content and comfortable and always full of praise for the staff. Although mum is bedridden and not able to join the other residents she says she can hear them singing which makes her day. She says that the staff are constantly popping in to make sure that she is comfortable and that she always feels safe and looked after.

I would highly recommend Redbond Lodge, the team is fantastic and keeps us informed of everything concerning Mum regularly.

Excellent friendly and caring staff. Really feel mum is at home here and being well looked after. She was nervous at first, but the staff here reassured her and have brought out the best in her. I joined Runwood Homes in November 2008 in different roles from Healthcare Assistant, Care Team Leader, and Deputy Manager from 2012 until I decided to take a big responsibility as a Home Manager at Redbond Lodge.
