Cooperscroft has cared for our father with great patience and love for the last 15 months until his sad death. He had dementia and was not easy to care for, but the team looked after him very well indeed. We are deeply grateful.

I have been most impressed with how this nursing home is run, from the past few years when my mother had a few respite stays to her currently receiving full nursing care today. During the past three weeks as we have entered into the COVID-19 world pandemic, I have been grateful to the stringent hygiene
and limited visiting measures taken by the home management. It has been a wise way to allow relatives to finally adjust to the limiting of all non-essential visits. Though this will be difficult I feel completely at ease that my mother will be well cared for. Thank you Cooperscroft.
Reply from Berni Martin, Lead Community Development Manager at CooperscroftThank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review during this very challenging and emotional time for all. We are constantly doing all we can during the Pandemic to ensure each of our residents are safe and well and updating family members. Thank you again and keep safe.

All of the staff have been very helpful. This includes the maintenance man. The nurses and doctors have been extremely kind to the resident, and have ensured that she will be looked after and regularly checked. The food that she has been served with is always nice and with appropriate portions. The
resident has had nothing to complain of and is comfortable with her room.

I cannot praise Cooperscroft enough. My father has become part of the Cooperscroft family.
On top of the exceptional care and love he (and we) receive on a daily basis, the amazing trips Dad and other residents go on are so well arranged and thought out. Dad thoroughly enjoyed his day in Southend by
the sea and eating his favourite fish and chips. Thank you.

My father sadly passed away at Cooperscroft in July 2019. We decided to hold the wake at Cooperscroft as the building and gardens are beautiful. Organised the catering with the head chef who was more than accommodating with my requests. The wake was perfect, the head chef went above and beyond expectations
with the catering and the staff were attentive and courteous.

My husband came to Cooperscroft after a serious fall when he lost mobility, self-sufficiency with meals and articulation. He just wanted to sleep!
He has now largely regained all faculties, regained confidence and articulation, thanks to the help of all the staff and the atmosphere of this nursing
home. For my part, I have had two weeks respite and am ready to have him home but I cannot help feeling that he will miss the vibrant atmosphere at Cooperscroft.

The journey to find my 93-year-old mum who has dementia and blind has been very difficult, but finally, I hope and believe. Cooperscroft Home have been very hands-on and approachable to discuss mums level of needs, she is now settling into an environment amongst similar residents with the help of all
the support staff who work so hard to enhance the lives of people like my mum. There aren't any specific care home for blind people with other needs but I truly hope Cooperscroft can and will meet her on-going needs to give her a quality of life she deserves.

My husband, with dementia, spent 2 weeks for respite care at Cooperscroft. He was warmly welcomed and things were taken at his pace. He felt secure enough to let me go with no problems. I understand he took part in a number of activities and he was in a positive happy mood when I collected him. The
staff were helpful and kind.

My mother was a resident in Cooperscroft for a week following a fall.
Her care could not have been better.
We were all impressed by the friendly, family atmosphere created by all staff and every staff member we met smiled, introduced themselves and made Mum feel welcome.
The member of staff on reception
went out of her way to support Mum when her dementia made her upset when we left.
I would highly recommend Cooperscroft.

I was very reluctant to come for convalescence following my hip replacement surgery. However, I needn't have worried as the overall care from day and night staff was excellent and was very beneficial to my immediate recovery. I would unreservedly recommend Cooperscroft to any family and friends who
might need respite care.
Reluctantly I do feel I should point out the way the carers helped themselves to food, just with their hands, while serving the meals. This seemed so unprofessional.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.967)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.967) out of 10 for Cooperscroft is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.967 for Cooperscroft is calculated as follows: ( (358 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 369 Ratings = 4.967
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cooperscroft is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Practice Development Lead Joined: 2025

I graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing in 2014 in Australia and began my career in respiratory nursing. I later transitioned to work as a sister in an Adult & Pediatric A&E. In 2019, I ventured into nursing education, teaching at various universities and providing training for staff on the Coronary Care Unit. During the COVID pandemic, I completed a Graduate Certificate in Emergency Nursing to further enhance my skills. After moving to the UK, I worked with a private training company, where I taught a variety of courses, including Basic, Immediate, Pediatric and Advanced Life Support, Anaphylaxis, Tracheotomy Management, and Moving & Handling. In January 2025, I joined TLC to continue my passion for nursing education and training.

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in Nigeria, where the majority of my experience was in occupational health nursing. I later progressed to become a Public Health Nurse and am currently concluding a Master’s in International Public Health in the UK.

My UK journey began in a care home, where I worked as an adult nurse and developed strong clinical skills and a deep understanding of elderly care. After two years, I was promoted to Deputy Manager, gaining valuable experience in operations, leadership, and team development.

In 2025, I joined TLC Care as Practice Development Lead at Karuna Manor Care Home. Although my background wasn’t in education, I’ve always had a passion for teaching and supporting others. Between 2018 and 2022, I worked part-time as a Basic Life Support instructor in Nigeria, training healthcare professionals in CPR and resuscitation, a role that shaped my commitment to knowledge-sharing and confidence-building.

Now, as Care Services Manager at Cooperscroft Care Home, I lead with a focus on quality, compassion, and continuous improvement. I’m dedicated to creating a safe, supportive environment for our team members, and to maintaining an outstanding home for our residents, guided by TLC’s values of Truth, Love, and Compassion.
